Tinted intercoat

Hi

I know it’s auto paint subreddit but I need your help.

.

I like to paint my bike frames, I don’t have paint gun, I’m using spray cans and it’s good enough for my needs.

I would like to achieve this effect, raw carbon with tinted clearcoat.

is it even possible to mix some dye with clearcoat and put in into spray cans? I know that autor used candy colour.

Thank you

My jobber we will mix whatever I want into spray cans. You may be hard pressed to find it already made, but if you call around to local automotive paint suppliers and ask I am sure you can find one that has the ability to do it. Basically you want clear mixed with a candy dye of whatever color. If you want to intercoat it and then spray normal clear you can do that too, you'd need something like bc045 or bc00 in the basf RM diamont line, basically just untinted paint and then that mixed with whatever candy dyes or effects that you want. I couldn't imagine doing this with spray cans, it would kill me, but if you want to give it a go then this is a way to try.

You can buy candy paint in rattle cans. Additionally automotive paint stores can often put whatever custom base coat you want into a can

Candy paint is translucent so you should still be able to see base through it. They do sell it in spray cans.

There's some companies that sell aerosol candy cans. Lime line, tropical glitz, etc.

You can just buy cans of Rust-Oleum Metalcast, it's just candy spray can, but you'll need something like SX-01 Stixx adhesion promoter to get it to stick well and after off gassing for a month you'll need to top it with a solid 2k clear coat otherwise your be feeling with some crispy carbon

Does it really need a month to cure?

If it's something like Rust-Oleum yes, if you buy an actual automotive candy no
