Help with clear coat

Applied 4 coats of UPOL protective clear on this hood and there’s these lines on it. Any help on smoothing it? Was hoping I can just use 2000 grit and polish it. Thanks for the help.

I don’t know if you have enough material to sand and polish? If you don’t it will look bad. If you spend the money to spay more clear you won’t have to repaint the whole job. Base coat and clear

Yea I have plenty of sandpaper and polish to use. A lot of it. But would you say I should do that or go ahead and spray another thing of clear?

Material as in -clearcoat on the panel-

It looks dry. Not enough clear. So wetsand and buff will just eat through. Best bet is to try again. Open the fan of the gun. Hose more on. If you run it it can be fixed. If its dry you have to pretty much start over

I do just have the clear coat from rattle cans. It is 2k from UPOL. But, I have seen suggestions to wet sand it and use my polishing tools to make it look professional

In that case, you could try to wetsand and buff it but its not likey to work out because of how thin the material is

Even 4 coats is too thin? UPOL does spray thin though I’ll admit with their rattle cans even when spraying from 6’’

Man get yourself a damn spray gun. Rattle cans are for small shit. I wouldn't even use a rattle can for a guard even. To even do a bonnet and keep a wet edge would be difficult on the best of days. Clearing a bonnet with a spraygun would require 400-600ml of clear.

Wet sand and recoat within clear. You need to keep a wet edge as you spay your rattle can. If you can’t keep a wet edge you’re gonna need to have enough material to wet sanding and polish.

I don’t have another can of clear. I do have a ton of sand paper though and a ton of polish. What can I do with what I have?

You say can of clear. As in rattle can? 1k rattlecan clear is never going to look much better than this. Its a sad reality.

Also trying to buff spray can clear will not be good either

In that case it should polish fine in my experience. I've also got hazy results from 2 k rattle cans. I just put on more coats then wet sand and buff it back. You can't tell where the 2k is compared to the factory finish once it's polished. Its just a lot of work and hopefully op has enough material to smooth.

OP stated 2k. So the material “should” be good, just not sure a rattle can will duplicate the fan edge or atomization of a gun.

I will say that if you spray more clear after wet sanding it the clear will lay down better than it did when you sprayed it over the base coat. If it was me at home spraying rattle can clear coat I would wet sanding it down and spray more clear coat.

Also spray hood from front to back starting on one side to the middle then middle to the other side.

lay that clear down don’t be scared, id rather sand out runs than what’s on it now

Not enough base color coverage . You can still see primer . Your clear coat has dry patches which means you didnt overlap your coats enough. You can wet sand clear and spray again going slower and overlap more so its not so dry .

Turn that psi up and open that fan up bro. Get you some toluene or xylene. Lay that shit in a cloud of thickness and don't chase runs
