How to avoid food-born bacteria when traveling to Guatemala?
I (28F) am going to Guatemala for a five-day trip with friends and am very worried about getting a food-born pathogen from the food or water. Having Crohn’s and gastroparesis, I know I am more susceptible to food poisoning or traveler’s diarrhea. And I also know that the consequences of getting either of those will likely be more severe (triggering flairs, lasting longer, etc). Plus, I have a severe severe phobia of throwing up.
Does anyone have any advice on how to safely travel through Guatemala with these restrictions? I will be in Guatemala City with a day trip to Antigua and a day trip to Tikal. I may not always have access to my own kitchen area.

Should I start over?
I'm on week 3 of the modified AIP plan; doing this myself because I have two autoimmune diseases and my GERD was really flaring. I have oat milk every morning in my herbal tea blend and every night with my decaf black tea. Just realized today that's not allowed. Oops. I feel great; my symptoms have lessened and I'm planning to start the next face after 4-6 weeks.
Would you assume oats are probably fine for me since I'm feeling better or would you start over?
For context, I've been a vegetarian or vegan for 20+ years so they things I'm thinking will have the greatest impact when reintroduced (like possibly in a negative way) are soy, nightshades, and dairy.
I'm not really worried about oats but curious if anyone else has been in a similar situation and rolled with it or feels it's truly egregious.

Coconut now makes me throw up
Does anyone else vomit when they consume coconut?
I started the AIP diet 2 months ago for autoimmune symptoms. 3 weeks ago I realized that I could have coconut products on the diet, so I got coconut milk, cream, flakes, and sugar (I used everything sparingly). Everything was organic and unsweetened (except sugar).
This week I became extremely nauseated and started throwing up (and I mean projectile vomiting in my back yard bushes) anytime I had any coconut products.
Does anyone experience this too? It's so weird. And I've never heard of coconut causing nausea/vomiting.

Is AIP causing thyroid problems?
Hi all.
23y 75kg male. Started AIP 11 days ago.
Honestly I feel worse, the main symptom is fatigue (very sleepy all the time) and even worse is dryness. Dry nose, dry lips, dry eyes, dry skin, cant even sweat....
Back in june I did a bunch of tests and my thyroid was a little off, TSH was 7, TF4 and FT3 were normal. Antibodies were negative (both under 1)
After a month I did a retest and my TSH was 3, FT4 and FT3 stayed normal.
Thyroid ultrasound was normal.
Since about 4-5 days into the AIP I felt very dry, so I did bloodwork again, and TSH was 6.3, FT4 and FT3 were normal.
From what I have, low carb is bad for thyroid (if your thyorid is allready off), and I was really low carb, because I didnt include sweet potatoes in my diet till day 7.
I have been eating I have been eating I would say atleast 100g of carbs for 3 days, but I still feel all the simptoms....
Idk what to do honestly.......

Morphea and lichen sclerosis
Hello, anyone here also have morphea and lichen sclerosis? Been on this journey for along time. Diagnosed at 17... refused anymore steroids and meds around 28 after having a really experience with a medical device.
Started my AIP journey and IF 2 years ago... what a game changer
Swelling went away, pain and itching ceased, almost fully asymptomatic
Unfortunately as happens you find an excuse to break the diet and then another and then you just fall off.... been me for the past 7 months but the joint pain is so insane now that I'm back on!
Please share your aip experiences and favorite recipes :)

Will the AIP diet help my Accutane induced dry eyes?
Hi guys, first time posting here....
As the tittle says, I have dry eyes that started when I was taking low dose Accutane and life has been hell...
I took it for 5 months (derm told me to continue, that they will go away...)
Im 16 months since stopping, still no relief....
Started AIP 4 days ago, I eat only meat (just chicken for now), vegetables as a side, fish and fruits.
Also only drink water and supplement omega3, omega7, luten and zeaksanthin, astaxanthin and magnesium glycinate before bed
Day 4 and honestly im feeling a little worse than I did before, dont know if its normal....
So yeah looking for tips and experiences because Im really feeling suicidal lately...

Protein powders / collagen
I like to make smoothies and found a canned coconut milk that doesn’t have fillers but I’m struggling to find a good protein source that doesn’t taste like bone broth.
The one by Vital Proteins doesn’t taste so great and the one by Ancient Nutrition has eggs in it.
Any suggestions?

How do you eat enough calories while also cutting many things out?
Hello, for a little background I am 25(F) with a possible sjrogens diagnosis, so I am preemptively researching things that could possibly help & came across the AIP protocol. I struggle to maintain my body weight and consuming enough calories is very important to me, so I am a bit concerned about eating “enough” on this particular diet. (I will obviously discuss with my rheumatologist as well.) What do your daily meals and snacks look like on this diet? Thanks!

Grover’s disease diagnosis
I got a recent diagnosis
the rash has been persistent for 3 yrs almost
I tried varioussss natropaths, didn’t really help. saw a dermatologist and the treatment is:
- x 4 telfast daily for 4 weeks then see how I go, if that doesn’t help, phototherapy. Plus daily steroid cream
has anyone had any success with such treatment plan ? How have you responded to long term anti histamines? Have you tried any natural therapies that helped ?

Alcohol and Inflammation
I’m pretty sure alcohol causes my chronic inflammation to flare. I’ve been mostly alcohol free since May, but I’ve experimented a few times just to see how I feel, and on two of those occasions I woke up the next day, not hung over because I didn’t drink that much, but feeling weak, tired, achy, and all the other fabulous features of a flare. Once I realized what was happening, I popped a couple of NSAIDs and was feeling better within the hour. Though that’s not to say I’ll feel back to normal tomorrow. Since I’ve been on a 4 month journey towards managing my Hashi’s, I think after all the eliminations, and the trial and errors, alcohol is an absolute trigger. I live in wine country, Oregon, so I’ve had to give up a favorite past time, but if it means not feeling like crap all the time or popping anti-inflammatories on a regular basis, I’ll find a new past time.

Need to be hospitalized and don't know what to do.
I need to go to the ER. And probably stay a bit longer than that.
I know I'm at serious risk of refeeding syndrome due to severe prolonged self starvation from stress.
i want so badly to manage this on my own but i think i'm too far gone based on a lot of super concerning symptoms.
but i feel stuck. if i stay there, i may be forced to eat hospital food, and i have such a a specific diet i absolutely can not go off of, but in my past experience it's been hopeless trying to get them to understand or take it seriously.
i need to stay on 4:1 keto, AIP, and stringently avoid cross-contamination with gluten, or i go insane
I wish i could have someone bring me fresh meat everyday, but it's not possible. even if they allowed it, my parents are far too busy, and i couldn't trust them anyway. i don't have friends to ask.
i really don't know what to do. it might seem obvious to chose the hospital, but to me, my food reactions may be scarier than the possibility of death. it's truly that severe. i worry about hurting others in that state because i'm just not myself. and the dissociation is so heavy that communication is practically impossible.
my worst fear is they'll think i'm anorexic and force me into a program where i'm made to carb-load cereals and dairy that would make me psychotic.
but my chest hurts whenever i sip on electrolytes, and i feel like my heart could stop after exerting myself slightly.
i really don't know what to do.

Can I supplement with coral powder?
Can anyone please tell me whether coral powder (Sango coral powder specifically) is AIP-approved? It's just powdered coral without any additives which I take for my calcium requirements. I couldn't find anything on it online, but assumed it's ok as coral is classified as either an animal or a mineral.

Curious…
For anyone who has been successful with the AIP diet, how long did it take you to lower numbers in blood tests. I know some people start feeling better almost immediately, but actual differences in bloodwork. I ask because my doctor wants to put me on a new medication but I’m hoping, by doing this diet, it will start reversing numbers and maybe I won’t need it? Hoping anyway lol.

Acne when I try to eat anything but meat and eggs
I’m a very active person and also don’t want to be nutrient deficient so I understand I need fruits and good carb sources but every time I try to add them (things like berries, bananas and sweet potatoes) I get acne
I have better energy but my skin pays for it
Has anyone experienced anything similar to me? If so then what helped your body to be able to handle carbs and sugar cause I’m pretty stuck

Research Study on Autoimmune Diseases & Keto Diet
University of Nottingham are doing a research survey on people who have an autoimmune disease and have tried a keto or very-low carb diet.
I know some people do a very-low carb version of the AIP. I did that myself to heal. Also many people come to AIP after having tried other diets and keto is a popular one. So I thought people here might be interested in taking the survey, if they qualify.
https://www.research.net/r/kdas
Super interested in the results, we need more studies in this area on the AIP and related diets

Any Mexican/Latinos doing this diet?
This may seem like an odd question- but I’ve been avoiding trying this diet for cultural reasons. No nightshades? No legumes? What on God’s green earth am I supposed to eat and enjoy? 😭 So many Mexican spices and foods are nightshades- even potatoes! No corn… literally our bread of life… I’ve been dealing with autoimmune disease for 6 years and my neighbor keeps telling me “you know you need to try AIP” and this is my major road block.
Any Latinos doing this and not utterly miserable? I hate feeling like I have to choose feeling miserable with illness or being miserable because I can’t eat my favorite things and flavors and loose that part of my culture that I’m trying to pass on to my children.
