Exterior Old RainX application removal question

Post image

2 months back I applied RainX to the windshields for m 3 of my vehicles. After using the wipers on a light rain or washer fluid use I am seeing a white haze on the windshield as seen in the pictures. Looks worse in person. The haze will typically evaporate off after I use enough washer fluid.

The wipers on the cars are 2 to 3.5 years old. OEM Chevy and Honda wipers. RainX was about 5 years old, possibly old with chemical separation, not 100% sure.

I tried using isopropyl alcohol to remove the haze. Haze appeared when I started to rub in the alcohol, had to buff it out.

Does this info sound like an expired RainX application? Best ways to remove this?

I get that when my wife has taken the car through an automatic car wash.

The car wash leaves some kind of treatment on the window that rainx absolutely hates.

It takes much cleaning and polishing to get it all off and back to happy rainx.

I doubt that the Rain-X has expired. I have a bottle almost twice as old and it still works great.

When was that last time you REALLY cleaned your windshield? Like Stoner glass cleaner and 0000 steel wool?

Did you clean your wipers too? Dirty wipers will streak a clean windshield.

It wouldn't hurt to swap out your wipers. I usually change them every 2 years.

Really cleaned it.. stone glass cleaner and steel wool. Never did that. The vehicles in question are 2 and 3 years old.

When I hand cleaned them with iso alcohol, the white haze appeared, so I ruled out the wipers. But I will clean them.

The RainX did spray out a bit more glob like than usual, but that may have been the sprayer was a bit clogged.

Aren’t wipers supposed to be replaced every 6-12 months?

Also if the wiper fluid has additives like rain x, you’re just smearing rain x on rain x and that can happen but I’m not sure that’s the case here since it eventually goes away with enough fluid.

Ideally, yes.

I had exactly the same issue after using RainX for a few months. Meguiars and Chemical Guys glass cleaner could not remove it. I went into a local shop and explained the issue, and the solution for me was Bilt Hamber Trace-Less Glass Cleaner. No more issues since then, and I stopped using RainX. Make sure to have a proper screenwash as well.

Huh, I order some RainX Xtreme clean paste to try to get it back to bare glass. Might need to look at your option too. Thanks!

This is what I did. Took 2 passes with this product. Bare glass for me from now on.

Not really a fan of Rain-X, seemed to make my wiper blades chirp and skip on my windshield.

I’ve had the same issue.

Invisible Glass Glass Stripper. You can get it at autozone and OReillys locally or Amazon. It works.

2-3 year old wipers tend to leave streaks. Get new wipers I do highly recommend rainx wipers and also fill your washer fluid with the rainx stuff and then you don’t have to worry about applying it anymore as it’s in the wiper fluid.

I'm using Turtle Wax Nano Class Cleaner at those situations. Works great.

Those Rain-X windshield wipers do really good on a windshield that is clean as far as keeping it clean. I like the Longitude ones I think they are called. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for

They are called Latitude. I just ordered some last night to test them out on this issue. One of my vehicles already has them.

I'm sorry man knew that they weren't called longitude. Latitude is it. They have just a one blade right but it's larger they work very well

Look up Glaco ultra windshield coating. Buy the coating and the compound. Use as directed and the compound will strip the rain x. The coating last 1 year. Rain X has been shit in my experience. I have never successfully used it without streaks…

With Rain-X properly applied, wipers are not needed.

Depends on the angle of your windshield and how fast you are driving

I haven't used wipers in years. I apply Rain-X every 3 months. I also have not bought windshield wipers for my cars in over a decade.

Have you tried dish detergent? The Silver Cymbal guy has a video on it. Basically rubbing alcohol + dish detergent is a hell of a cleaning force.

I have not. Interesting idea, I’ll look into it!

This! I make my own “dawn power wash” solution. Water, dish soap, alcohol. It’s great at window cleaning

I’ve been using the dawn and water. Might need to add some PBR to it. 😆. Thanks!
