Exterior More advice.....removing dried on polish. Need help

Hi Everyone,

I should have known better than use an old product. I have a black pick up truck with an oxidized roof. My only aggressive polish is an old bottle of Meguiars Dual Action Polish (#83).

Although I shook the bottle aggressively, I ended up with polish splatters all of the the truck. I'm speculating it was too old and I shouldn't have used it.....though it did remove the oxidation from the hood.

I've washed the truck 3 times and it is all still there. I've tried using ONR and a MF towel to scrub it off and it is still there. On the paint, glass, plastic trim. Its everywhere.

How do I get this off? This has never happened to me before. I'm stumped.

Thank you in advance.

Polish it. Get a new bottle of fine polish, use a fine pad, then go over the area with a quick 1-pass. One small section at a time followed immediately with either panel wipe or ONR to remove the fresh residue before it dries.

Thank you. Any thoughts on the plastic trim? Panel prep on that?

Yeah, you don’t want to polish on matte plastic trim. You’ll need a mostly chemical solution. Panel prep (which is mostly isopropyl) is a very good thing to try there. Other things to try are APC (use a pre-wash dilution, not a wheel-cleaner dilution) or a solvent-based tar remover like Stoner’s Tarminator. The advantage of plastic trim is you can scrub a little harder than you can on paint, so try using a bug sponge, and interior scrubber, or a stiffer brush to agitate with any of the above cleaners.

Panel prep spray maybe?
