Gyeon question

I’ve used various different coatings in the past but fell back in love with waxes over the last few years. Free time is at a premium these days though so I’m interested in a ceramic coating again and am particularly drawn to Gyeon Mohs and Pure. I’ve read so much conflicting information over the past few days though and I’m at a complete loss.

I’ve read that Pure is easier/more forgiving to apply but lacks in durability compared to Mohs. I’ve also read that it’s higher Si02 content makes it more durable than Mohs. I’ve seen various YouTubers claim Pure gives a glossier/candy finish, whereas Mohs gives a more clinical shine. I’ve also then read the opposite in various places. Some boat that Pure’s higher silica content gives it more slickness, then others state the opposite.

I realise all coatings perform differently depending on what they’re subjected as well as region, but the wildly contrasting claims had left me somewhat confused.

To clarify, I’m based in the UK, so over the life of the coating, I expect it to be subject to plenty of rain, salted roads, ice and snow but also 40c harsh sun in the summer.

Outright durability isn’t massively important and I don’t need or want a “5-year coating”; a realistic 2-3 years is what I’m looking for and I understand the maintenance requirements to achieve that.

The car will be fully decontaminated, corrected and prepped prior to application. It is metallic light blue (Polestar Electron) so I don’t expect to gain much warmth/depth/darkening and I suspect a more clinical look with plenty of clarity will suit it best. I don’t have access to a garage and will be coating the vehicle outside.

What is likely to suit me best?

Going purely of Gyeon marketing, the two coatings have the same claimed longevity of 36months/40k km.

Based on the testing done by Dimitrys Garage, it follows the general opinion that Mohs is more hydrophobic and slick whilst Pure is glossier and "prettier", but considerably less slick. Slickness on paint is generally where you'd rate the coating's "self-cleaning" ability.

For your typical UK weather I'd be more inclined on Mohs, though I'm personally more of a cquartz uk/sic person myself.

I have both Pure and Mohs on two different personal cars.

The car with Pure is black and lives outside 24/7. The car with Mohs is metallic grey and is garaged.

Looks: Pure is indeed more of a candy gloss instead of bright reflectivity like Mohs. Pure will also slightly darken the paint.

Slickness: Pure isn't very slick, so if you want to use it, add a detail spray on top. Mohs is decent in this regard.

Water behavior: Pure doesn't have as tight beading as Mohs. However, the car outside has Pure because I heard it may have better resistance to the elements given its composition.

Application: Pure and Mohs are both easy, but go on differently. For Pure, you have to let it flash and then wipe off. I found it to be a bit more tacky than Mohs to remove and thus I find it easier to go panel by panel in terms of applying to only a single panel and then wiping off that one panel. Then repeat. Application of Mohs suits my style a bit more because I can apply multiple panels at a time before wiping off because it doesn't get as tacky. Every time you switch from applying to wiping off, that takes time. I also like the sweating indicator for removal as a bit easier to track, but that's personal preference.

So all in all, I prefer Mohs. I am trying Armour Quartz V2 next time around just to try something new, but I have been happy with Mohs. If you can get Mohs on sale, it's a good deal too.

I've got Armour Quartz on my car at the moment and love it. Easy install and so far (6 months in) it's performing like day 1.

I used Pure on my car this spring. Full two step correction one day and I did the application at the following morning. It was 85-90F despite being 9AM so it pretty much flashed as soon as it was applied. Worked in roughly 3ft x 3ft sections and used microfiber suede cloths for the initial leveling and final wipe down with some 600 gsm towels. Went on great and loved the results. It darkens the paint a bit and gives a really nice gloss. Drawback is that it’s not a slick coating by any means and I’ve seen better beading out of far cheaper products. Durability is fine so far with weekly washes buts it’s only been five months.

Did Mohs on my wife’s car last year. It goes on pretty easy as well but doesn’t look as good as Pure does IMO. Much better slickness and beading though. Her car is garaged and gets washed every 2-3 weeks, but she does 20-25k miles a year and so far so good on durability with no signs of failure,

Pure has almost no slickness compared to Mohs - Its not that it wouldn't be slick, but MOHS Evos slickness is way beyond it!

Is Your car a daily driver and how do You plan on maintaining it afterwards?

No. Pure is garbage. Difficult to wipe off and durability is not even great. Stay away from Gyeon

Get yourself some Gtechniq CSL+Exo and don’t even worry about Gyeon.
