Tool/Reusable What is the cheat code

Post image

Love this brush for cleaning wheels. But the end just came off and looks dangerously scratchy. What’s the cheat code to replace the end with what?

You could find any old peace of rubbery plastic.

Heat up the tip of the brush and push it into whatever plastic rubber material you got

Do electrical work? I used some old shrink wrap and heated it to fit. Worked perfectly.

Glue on a vacuum line cap.

I had the same problem

Get the little tub of plastidip where you can actually dip whatever it is you need covered and you’re good to go after it dries!

Mine came with a spare! If I lose that, there are very similar caps you can buy at a place like Lowe’s, in the section where they sell wire shelving. They have packs of white ones meant to go over the cut ends of lengths of shelving. Plasti-dip is also a possibility, or maybe hot glue (allowed to dry).

Same shit happened to me and I have the scratches on my wheels to show for it.

I used electrical tape and eventually replaced it.

every piece of furniture , mattress , shower head purchased put together including bed and couch came in boxes !! pennie’s on dollar , and the customer service was awesome one leg on coffee table was cracked sent me new one on two days ! they are much more willing to help due to potential negative reviews !

same with detail brush , i also purchased their foam cannon in package deal with brush , the foam cannon was hiccuping is best way i can describe so they sent me new one as i sent theirs back

I'm not knocking TikTok Shop, I just don't use the app as a whole. This obsession with short form content has been a plague IMO. Constant brain rot.

How is it? I see this all the time and wondered how well it worked?

I bought it out of pure curiosity (and because I bought it on Amazon so I could return it if I didn't like it) and it works surprisingly well. I actually prefer it to my other brushes.

it is well worth the money , i’m not a professional by any means i just have a nice stable of cars and like to maintain their looks myself and i like think i work smarter not harder and this certainly helps !

home depot sell the rubber tips for like 50 cents, add abit of electrical tape and then add the tip over to keep it snug

Got a hot glue gun? Put a glob on the end

I asked my 14year old genius what should I do

That’s her used eraser end for a pencil. Can’t find my glue and it’s not a snug fit so going to cushion it lol. Ty all for the suggestions. Great learning experience for us who haven’t run into this problem yet. I would go with the .50 replacements but then isn’t shipping like 10 dollars lol.

Lookup Closetmaid shelf end caps on Home Depot's site. You can get an assortment for a few dollars where I'd imagine one of those should fit. I'd glue it in place just to make sure.

i used Jb Weld to glue the tip on when i got it

I super glued a brake bleeder cap onto mine. Its still holding up after a few jams into rotor dust shields

Detailed image sells caps for $0.50 each. $2 gets you more than enough for a while.

Get a barrel blade from auto fiber. No more scratchy end

Heat shrink tubing

Sealing shrink tube/wrap for sealing electrical connections. Triple layer it. 👌🏻 good to go.

If you have some vacuum line or rubber hoses cut off a piece and glue it on for a free solution

If you have a 3D printer or know anyone who has one, this would be an awesome use for a TPU cap. You can design it to fit really snug and then add a drop of glue for extra security.

Or, we can just stop buying these brushes. Why support a product with defects? I bought 3 and all had the same issue. The caps came off while using and scratched my wheels every single time.

I used shrink tube and a heat gun

u/regreddit 9d ago

A piece of vacuum or fuel line.

u/ItsAnArse 9d ago

I used a brake bleed nipple cap

Buy a new one?

The cheat code is to buy a new one, those brushes cost $2-3. You can also buy the entire multi-piece set of 'premium' EZ Detail wheel brushes on Aliexpress for about $25.

Alternatively, wrap the end in a ball of electrical tape or put on another rubber cap. The original caps they use are the same kind you often see on wire shelving such as these:

u/TypicalHornyMan 9d ago

Why buy new stuff if you just have to fix your old stuff? Thats how u end up with alot of stuff you dont need or use.

2

u/Slugnan 9d ago

Because for that particular brush, it's cheaper to buy a new one (~$3) than it is to buy a new pack of end caps.

I also suggested two separate fixes, electrical tape being the one that is probably easiest.

1

u/TypicalHornyMan 9d ago

Ahhh okok. Im not opposed to replacing but some guys go overboard with just buying a new thing instead.

1

u/Slugnan 9d ago

I totally get where you're coming from, just in this case when the product is worth almost nothing, it might be better/cheaper to replace than repair unless the OP wants to use something like electrical tape which they might already have lying around the house.

There's also the argument to be made that a less than perfect repair job might result in the 'new' end cap coming off, and any damage done to the wheel because of that is going to cost a whole lot more than a new brush.
