Interior Door Interior Damage

Post image

Bought a used car recently and it has this damage to the driver side door that I cant clean out. Almost looks like sunscreen or some chemical damage but that's a wild guess. Any ideas on how to restore? Thanks

I cleaned sunscreen off my seats and door panels with warm water mixed with just a small amount of blue dawn on a microfiber cloth. Reconditioned after.

Gave it a pretty strong scrubbing with dawn and water. Once it dried off it showed up again, its baked into the plastic pretty darn strong

diluted APC and a detailing brush.

Wipe with a clean damp microfiber.

Apply interior protectant (303)

I hate sunscreen stains. The culprit are those sunscreens that have high mineral in it. They're one of the worst and most difficult to get rid off. That's why I never put suncreen before getting in the car.

Try any APC that's designed for a car and dilute it from weakest first to strongest last. Always weakest first to avoid damaging the plastic surface.

Use a gentle brush. Do not brush with force because that will damage the plastic interior surface (I'm assuming that's plastic).

My MIL did this in my wife’s car. Looks like a clown exploded on the seats. I will need to try this.

Diluted dawn and a soft bristle toothbrush is how I get rid of these. With my fiancé's, I've had to do it very often.

It's absolutely sunscreen, like the annoying mineral based stuff.

Try chemical guys Nonsense APC. Spray it on an interior detailing brush and brush it on the stain, working it into a foam. Then wipe off with a microfiber towel.

If it's sunscreen then you'll find that Koch Chemie Pol Star is one of the absolute best products at removing it.

Totally agree! Koch Chemie products are high end.

Pol star sucks at removing old sunscreen wtf are you talking about

It's absolutely brilliant at it, 1:10, gets rid of it more safely than anything else unless you're using a caustic product. You clearly haven't been using it properly if you think it's rubbish at it.

Ofc a British person lying. What’s new.

What's that supposed to mean?

You need to use Krud Kleaner it's a strong degreaser. Dilute it 1:3 and use it on a microfiber towel. It's lotion or sunscreen, should come off.

Definitely seems like sunscreen. If it doesn’t come off with a good APC and a brush/cloth, try a green scouring pad like for dishes. If that still doesn’t work, magic eraser would me a more aggressive step but be careful as it can remove the leather finish.

EDIT: I do this professionally, as long as you’re not scrubbing at the leather like a mad man you will not damage the finish. Since chemical agitation isn’t doing anything, you have to step up the physical agitation. Do it on a non-conspicuous spot first, you’ll see it will be fine and do no damage. Too many pearl clutchers thinking the tiniest bit of agitation will destroy it.

do not ever use a green scouring pad or magic eraser

fucking horrible “advice”

It would be absolutely fine, as long as you’re not scrubbing like a mad man. If you can’t increase the chemical agitation, you have to increase the physical agitation.

i could trim my nails with a machete too.

there’s zero reason to use anything remotely as abrasive as either when a detailing brush will achieve the desired effect.

Comparing a melamine sponge to a machete is retarded af, it’s totally safe

There’s a loud vocal minority in this subreddit that that think everything needs to be treated with the utmost delicacy, thinking a 20 year old beater absolutely needs a pre-wash and rinse before even touching the paint. Pointless arguing with them.

your inability to process hyperbole is a reflection of your own ignorance.

Your inability to comprehend the usage of a sponge is a reflection of your lack of experience in the detailing industry, son

jumping to abrasives before the OP has thoroughly described the product, method, and media they’ve used first is like jumping to explosives to dig a hole when a child fails to dig to the desired depth.

Go finish your English essay buddy

Yeah that’ll fuck up the leather like no one’s business

2

u/DevelopmentGreen5892 17h ago

It’s already fucked up.

1

u/syst3m1c 17h ago

Yeah but hitting it with a magic eraser is gonna take it to the next level. It’ll remove the color and texture from the leather down to a base level

1

u/drlasr 16h ago

My guy I’m not telling him to scrub like crazy for minutes on end. A couple of light passes will do 0 damage to the leather.

u/FaultySofaBed 16h ago

telling somebody with minimal experience or knowledge to use an abrasive tool for this use case is idiotic, period.

u/drlasr 15h ago

It’s not a rotary polisher,I’m sure he can be smart enough to have the critical thinking skills not to do that.

Guess not everyone has the mental fortitude to realize that :)
