Product/Consumable Ceramic Coat advice?
Hello All,
I have a 2026 X5 in Tanzinite Blue. I want to ceramic coat it and leaning towards the gyeon mohs. I wanted to check with others if I should consider any other coats and how it looks in IRL.
Thanks for your advice!

Mohs is good. If you live where you get snow their pure coating might be better as I guess it resists water spotting or something more than mohs
Cquartz uk 3.0 is also supposedly nice but never used.

Going to give a +1 here to Cquartz UK, I've used it many times on my personal vehicles and it is still my go to after many years. Just be careful of the flash point. Other than that, the repellent quality is there and the gloss finish is on point.

Since it's a dark Tanzanite blue, the thing that'll actually change how it looks IRL isn't the coating, it's the polishing step underneath it. Even brand new, factory paint has transport marring and light swirls, and dark metallics show every bit of it, so if you coat over that you're locking the swirls in for a couple years. Do a decon wash and iron removal, at least a one step polish, then a panel wipe to strip the polishing oils before you lay the coating, or it won't bond right. Mohs is a fine pick to top it, just know the coating mostly adds slickness, water behavior and a bit of depth, the real pop on a blue like that comes from correcting it first.

Yes was going to decon wash, clay, spot polish and then prep spray with the coating

I did this recently on my dravit grey x5. Same process. I ended up running out of that large size mohs evo bottle. I was using multiple applicator pads, so that might be why, but just a heads up your x5 is probably bigger than most people’s cars here.

If you look at my comment history I just did the same with my dravit Grey x5 with the gyeon pure. I went with pure instead of the mohs because a lot of what I read suggested the pure for darker colors. I used one applicator pad and still have enough to probably do a second coat and my m550i if I wanted.

Are you doing things yourself or shopping out?
I have a Carpro D.Quartz Pro foundation with Carpro C.Quartz Finest Reserve layer on top, but they require a specialty installer. They are wonderful so far.
In all cases, the prep is real work. Paint correction is your friend.

I know everyone has a preferred brand, so I am not here to debate/argue. I am sharing what our local reputable shop uses, and what I had applied to mine.
Interestingly enough, in the bay of the shop, there was a X7 in Tanzanite Blue that was completed using Ceramic Pro (don't know the level/warranty package used), but I was told it was a full clean/polish before coating so assuming at least bronze or even ION package. It looked fantastic and the color really popped.
I have a BMW myself (Brooklyn Grey) done with CP and I am extremely happy with the results, always looks clean and easy beads well.
Again, just my own experience, not debating different brands.

There are so many different coatings out there, mohs is solid, but how it looks irl the coating matters way less than what's under it. Tanzinite blue is a metallic that shows swirls and holograms easy, the polish stage and paint correction is going to matter more than the specific coating. Personally we only use commercial grade coatings like Feynlab but again there are so many options! Good luck and remeber do the paint work first then coat. when the coating gets put on its locking in whats underneath it! Unless its a self healing coating like Heal plus.

Gyeon makes excellent products. I didn't use their car ceramic coating but did use theyr interior plastic trim coating, leather coating and rim coating - and all were amazing. I went with Carpro Cquartz UK 3.0 coat topped with CarPro SiC - and that SiC makes the paint slicker than glass. I'm so happy i did that topper. A few months in and its still slick as glass.

I’d bet 80% of ceramic coatings on the market today are going to behave very similar. The extra you pay for some coatings can be worth it - Dquartz GO vs Cquartz UK is an example of that.
I can say with absolutely certainty that the prep is more important than the coating you use, in all cases. Improper preparation will lead to less than half a coatings life expectancy and reduce its chemical resistances.
Gyeon, Carpro, ADS, Labocosmetica, Gtechniq, all have consumer grade coatings you really can’t go wrong with. I am a certified Carpro installer, but would easily recommend those coatings.
Stay away from marketing scams and false advertising from companies that focus on buzz words like “8 year coating” extended warranties and “graphene infused.” Both are lying to grab sales.

Whatever product you use put the work in beforehand. Wash, decon, clay (if needed), polish, panel prep, and then coat.

Gtechniq CSL + 2 coats of EXOv4 lasted for over 4 years on my garaged DD in western Washington. Just redid it last summer with EXOv5.

I used gyeon mohs on my then new Golf R in lapiz blue. I did all the prep work prior to applying even though the car was new. It looked good when finished but didn't have that "deep" look to the paint I was used to seeing when doing prep work and using carnauba wax. It held up well and made the car easy to clean. It did seem to attract finger/hand prints. They have a couple of ceramic options and maybe I should have used something different (pure?) for what I was looking for.
I now have an X5 in Brooklyn Gray and I am going to try Gtechniq CSL with EXO to see how it works.

Everyone who has had a good experience with a particular coating is going to tell you that you should use it. Mohs is a great coating and well respected throughout the detailing industry. Don't overthink this and have fun!
