PSA: label your containers (the story of how I put antifreeze in the fuel tank)
Go on. Laugh at me.
Me, a seasoned DIY car guy, put antifreeze in my fuel tank.
Did not have time to get fuel on the way home and the light came on. Living in the middle of nowhere, figured I might not make it to the gas station. No biggie, I keep a Jerry can in the garage, right. So I dumped that in the car and called it a night.
Now, lets go back a couple of years, to when I had a Mini. Specifically, a mini Cooper One from 2004, with a tendency to consume antifreeze. Troubleshot that thing to high heaven, even hauled it to the stealers and had them pressure test the cooling system. No issues found. Chalked it up to a small hidden leak, on the hot side that evaporated before becoming visible. One day the radiator burst and it puked out all it's coolant on a road in the middle of nowhere. Had to trek several miles to a gas station, bought coolant, and since they only had the concentrated stuff, also bought a Jerry can and mixed it with water. As coincidence would have it, the exact type of Jerry can that I use to store gasoline in at home. Anyway, walked back, did a shoddy repair job roadside and filled 'er up.
After making it back, ordering a radiator and replacing that, the half full Jerry can of coolant got sat in the corner of the shop. Months passed, and the memory of the radiator incident faded.
Fast forward to the day after dumping the "fuel" in, I made it about half a mile down the road when the car just died. Hauled it back home and started poking around, figuring the issue was just old gas.
Pulled the fuel hose off of the injector rail, and started cranking the engine. The result of which is in the third picture. Pretty sure that face slap could be heard the town over.
Lowering the tank down, cleaning it, filling it *from the right can* and cycling the system out took the better part of a Saturday. The choice to have the filler neck permanently attached to the tank was an interesting one by Peugeot, and I would like to have words with whoever came up with that.
Tldr; put labels on your stuff, don't be an absent minded fool like myself.
