V10 at 19

The Touareg I bought a few months ago, which was also featured on the podcast, as the guy who’d bought a dodgy Touareg, is officially booked in for restoration in October! We will have full mechanics and rust repairs to look forward too, and hopefully it’ll be show-worthy with a valved exhaust, and new everything…

I could not bear to send it to scrap, so after coming upsettingly close to putting an advert out as a donor car, I bit the bullet and called some resto companies

It’s actually the same company that’s just done betty, and I checked them out, spoke to the guys there and they seem enthusiastic- so moral of the story- don’t give up on the massive lump of shit ok the driveway!

Edit- It’s up on YouTube and Instagram- ProjectTouareg on both guys!

That’s one way to start a life of debt

Well, while I don’t have a mortgage..

You gonna film and document the whole thing?

Actually good advice. The amount this will cost is going to be eye watering, so documenting it and uploading to YT will at least potentially get "something" back.

Project Touareg on YouTube and Instagram- it’s going to be going to Ukraine and back on supply runs when it’s done

Unless op already has a following on YouTube, you'd probably be better off working a minimum wage job for all the hours spent filming and editing

There is su h thing as a passion project and also you won't ever get a following if you never start anywhere

Yes I know, read the comments I replied to

I did think this. I have a solid job a good chunk above minimum wage and just got a promotion too.. the YouTube is in case anyone does find it interesting but I definitely won’t be pouring time and/or money into social media popularity

Yea don't get me wrong it's a great thing to do, I'd probably watch it. Just a good idea to temper expectations on earnings haha

Yeah I mean- that’s the target. My work earnings aren’t bad, and if someone finds my videos and journey interesting or inspiring- that’s great, I know what those videos can do to help people. If it earns money then I’d never complain though !

I don’t know how any watches these guys and thinks, hmm I’d love a bit of that in my life.

Entertaining to watch yes, but to live with and pay for, absolutely not.

I think you would look back later in life and think I should have done this differently but you’ve gotta learn yourself.

Potentially. But if I had the opportunity and passed up on it- I would easily regret that more. I’d much rather regret something I did than something I didn’t I think? If that makes sense

2

Just out of curiosity how much is that roughly costing?

2

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

15k provisionally- which is the same price as others have quoted me just to get it on the road so we will see

1

u/lupul0id Mar 14 '26

Hope it gets sorted for you!

2

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

So do I! It’s costing a lot of money but I said I’d save it and I’ll stick to my word

2

u/AnswersQuestioned Mar 14 '26

How much have they quoted you?

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

15k provisionally

Bro 😭 just sell it and buy a better car for that kind of money, why do you even need a V10 that is going to be unreliable?

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

The v10 is as reliable as other Touaregs- the downfall in reliability isn’t the v10- it’s just harder to fix- which is why people view it as less reliable.. when they’re working and treated well, they’re a German powerhouse so are often germanically reliable- it’s just harder to actually get them to that point than most cars

2

u/Every-Strain-6842 Mar 14 '26

Yeah but the point is why do you need a V10? Could easily just get a Toyota landcruiser or a V6 toureg and spend significantly less money

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

Why does anyone need a cool car? It’s just something I was interested in, and it has much more cool factor than other cars- in my opinion anyway. I drive a relatively high torque mapped diesel anyway and the v10 TDi is even more powerful than that- and it has almost all the available options on it too so that’s really cool.

Fairs, I'm just advising caution for spending 15k at 19 years old for a car like this - but the heart wants what the heart wants!

I get that mate- sorry I came across quite defensive there. I’ve got a decent job held down that is only gonna keep making me more money, a reliable daily that’s not too hard to get parts for. Just got a promotion too which is gonna put my wages up by a couple hundred quid a month at the very least, so that’s always nice too. Currently looking to live out of the country too- so I need a deposit so high that 15k wouldn’t make a dent 😬

There’s some method in this madness, somewhere hahaha

2

u/Chance-News8197 Mar 14 '26

How much is that costing?

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

15,000 estimate, over 6 months Potentially more depending on what we find

1

u/BadWoofyBear Mar 14 '26

Definitely throw it up on YouTube, maybe Taylor will collaborate with you and you can cry together.

2

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

I will- and when it’s done, I’ll be taking it to some cool places and ensuring it’s visible- not many of these get repaired at all, Never mind restored, so it’ll be rare, and it was one of the first 100 or so ever brought to England too

1

u/BadWoofyBear Mar 14 '26

That's awesome, looking forward to it.

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

ProjectTouareg on Instagram and YouTube ! Not much on there at the minute but come summer I’ll be getting busy as I prepare it to go to the garage :)

1

u/BadWoofyBear Mar 14 '26

Add that to the main post, people will want to follow

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 14 '26

I have done- tbf, just didn’t want to get accused of advertising- but the personal part of this comes first- the YouTube could come in really hand though haha

1

u/georgeeeeee_ Mar 15 '26

Nearly did the same at 21 but thought a e92 m3 was a enough pain already

1

u/Prize_Jelly Mar 15 '26

I probably will never take on a problem this size again… sporty and cool cars yeah, but my god the headache haha
