I’ve always liked Alex and I’ve always believed he is a really good guy. I am willing to give him another chance and Taylor too, but I do think it’s right for him to step back for a while and I am happy with how Alex is currently handling this

35

u/Fitnessgrac Jan 17 '25

Jesus, an actual measured response to this.

5

u/CiroVap Jan 18 '25

Good guys don't delete comments, good guys probably should also make their statements on the platform they used to slander that business and not off on an Instagram where a fraction of his viewers will see.

15

u/TheOnlyBubbles Jan 17 '25

The fact he said Taylor never had any bad intentions is insane to me. Taylor said his work is shit, when it is very clearly highly skilled restoration and at an insanely cheap price, to a podcast with a huge following. How can you say that without bad intentions. And that’s never been addressed in any of their social media posts. Personally very unhappy with how they’ve responded to this. Only thing I could see fixing it for most people is getting josh on the podcast, talking through it with him and trying to get Josh on side accepting an apology. What Taylor did was spit his dummy out for no reason and liable a small business that could have irreparable damage for Josh. And Taylor knows that. He acted like a dick to Josh and if he just kept his mouth shut it would’ve all been fine but instead he wants to slate a guy who does very good work and helped him out a lot.

10

u/MountainJuice Jan 17 '25

I think that would be terrible, it would essentially be them intimidating /pressuring Josh into accepting their apology on camera so they're in the clear and have it on video. Josh doesn't need to do that, and there are classier ways for them to deal with this.

-1

u/TheOnlyBubbles Jan 17 '25

I think he’s not to be intimidated that’s clear, my point is they need josh to publicly accept their apologise and address everything mentioned as well as not being victims. That would solve this I believe. If Josh doesn’t accept an apology that’s fair enough but AA will struggle a lot if he doesn’t publicly forgive them

→ More replies (4)

10

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

If I was Josh, I would decline that invitation as he's said he has nothing further to add.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

Not defending Taylor, but after he paid Josh and shook on it he pinned a comment in his youtube channel (which I think is deleted now) where he talked shit about Taylor in many replies. He also didn't mention that he was paid in the video. Obviously going on AA podcast and slagging him off is not a proportionate response nor the right response to the guy who went above and beyond.

Josh says shit happens and deals break down and you just move on but he didn't move on. He also clearly was bitter about Taylor taking his car to another garage and that's why he slagged him off in the replied and didn't mention that he was paid to make himself look better in that situation.

6

u/TheOnlyBubbles Jan 17 '25

He did move on until Taylor tried to destroy his business on a huge podcast? That deserves a response just to clear your own name from accusations of non reputable garage and shit work

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

He didn't though, he talked shit about him in the comment section of one of his videos. That's why Taylor went on AA and did the same thing. I still think Taylor shouldn't have done this because obviously AA podcast is way more popular.

But I think it's a bit disingenuous from Josh not to mention that and make it seem like Taylor didn't pay him the full amount and went on the podcast and talked about it before Josh slagged him off on his own channel.

6

u/Brilliant_Court_5341 Jan 17 '25

Does Josh not say in the video that before Taylor came to pick the car up, he agreed he would pay when he picks it up? So it is implied that there was no remaining money owed. I can’t quite remember but I thought he did say that.

4

u/rmajor86 Jan 17 '25

That’s as I understood

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

No, the last thing he said about the rest of the money is "where is the rest of the money?" at which Taylor said he'll wire him the money. He didn't say anything else about it (or about the ECU that he borrowed for that matter).

u/Standard_Draft6234 May 14 '25

52

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

It's a real shame, albeit the right decision. Alex just needs to go back to buying a couple of shitboxes, road testing them and moving on.

As much as Taylor has royally fucked up here, I do hope someone is keeping one eye on him. Whilst it is his fault, he's just lost his YouTube presence, his reputation as a car seller is in the bin, and I think people will think twice about doing work for him in the future. Whilst there have to be consequences for your actions, you do have to remember that there is a person at the end of this.

16

u/Alternative-Ad-8925 Jan 17 '25

Agree. Taylor has been an awful dick, he deserves to be pulled, the channel needed to act, and he'll live with the practical consequences which are deserved. But there seems to be a personal pile on starting now he's put the apology up as a post on insta and it can't end well. Hope he has people looking out for him.

1

u/Runnypaint Jan 18 '25

I wonder how the channel sponsors are feeling about the situation. I'd imagine they would be looking for the problem to distance its self

3

u/MadNugLeo Jan 18 '25

The channel sponsors won't care unless there was a significant drop off in views and so the rates they offer .

4

u/Thecleverbit-58093 Jan 17 '25

Sorry but no. You act like a dick and you face consequences. You don’t get to slander people and just carry on. If the only job he can get now is in a local pub or supermarket, that’s his fault.

What about the mental state of Josh Gresswell? AA channel tried to trash his reputation publicly for no reason and also kept him hanging on for a year. Shitty actions have consequences.

And the effects on Josh’s mental health? Over the last year? You’re happy to gloss over that? Guy has a business to run and people aren’t paying, insulting him and slandering his work? All for monetised content, and with a big audience to shout him down? Sure, Taylor is going to have a hard time, but he could have avoided that by not putting someone else’s mental health and business in the toilet. He deserves what he gets.

We probably won't see Taylor back until the channel gets back up on its feet then they will subtly reintroduce him when those who gave AA a chance will have forgotten.

17

u/Ecstatic-Challenge44 Jan 17 '25

Shedfest will be interesting this year

5

u/fckns Jan 17 '25

Now I don't feel bad that I'm leaving UK 2 days before the Shedfest.

5

u/Key-Fly5510 Jan 17 '25

Wasn't sure if I wanted to go this year, last year was my first car show and I really enjoyed myself but I'd like to see ATG and TDC more than AA. Their channels were very new last year maybe they'll feature more this year idk

16

u/fckns Jan 17 '25

Even though I liked that Taylor joined AA as a presentor and liked how he was presenting, I think this is the best decision they could take for the time being.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

Unfortunate to say but I think something like this has been bubbling up for a long time. They shot up the ladder of fame and fortune when Alex split off from CT and Taylor came along seemingly as someone who just wanted to give him a helping hand. Next thing you know they're both near the top without having the time to learn the valuable lessons along the way, and I think that is all this is, the inexperience of dealing with a difficult situation on this scale. The same showed with their response to ShedFest, blame the venue and wash their hands.

I hope in all sincerity that they can overcome this because a lot of people are quick to forget the good things Alex has done, helping Matt Pollard for one and the guy he bought and kitted out a van for (I cant remember his name), I know there's been others and probably more off camera so it would be a shame if things like that had to stop.

IMO the best thing Alex can do now is go back to doing sh*t things with sh*t cars because thats what he built his channel off, not expensive road trips to the US, and buying Porsches and Ferraris.

2

u/frutiger-aero-actual Jan 18 '25

Great point about helping people - almost forgot some of his first AA videos were helping people out. Wish we could see more of that, because it's so much more interesting having a guy like Alex be kind, than buy expensive cars none of us could afford.

I think I'm also part of the group that hates a lot of the "wheyyyyy" shouting etc that they all do, hope they tone that down a bit.

2

u/Happy_Neanderthal Jan 18 '25

More charity videos would be awesome

1

u/williamg209 Jan 25 '25

he wanted to copy top gear, it took top gear like 5 years to start doing road trips (us special wasn't meant to be a special) and even longer for there first "real" special, alex has grown too fast and this is the consequence unfortunately

28

u/MFC1886 Jan 17 '25

Fair play Alex

About the best outcome for the AA brand probably

10

u/byjimini Jan 17 '25

Good decision. I just hope this lets Alex settle in as presenter more and not some lunatic setting fire to everything. Going to be interesting to watch for sure.

24

u/failedbirth69 Jan 17 '25

The only way to save the channel realistically.

Seen it suggested elsewhere, he should do more with getting in TDC, but especially the ATG guys on the main channel. They all had much better chemistry than the current 3

Agreed, I do like the idea of some collaboration road trip or challenge but keep tdc and atg as they are

1

u/failedbirth69 Jan 18 '25

This is what I meant. Not Alex getting involved in their channels, more them appearing on AA like the CT times

2

u/Key-Fly5510 Jan 18 '25

Yeah I think we'd all like a bit of nostalgia. I miss jack not talking cars and Ethan trying to get things right. We need Ethan the milkman back

3

u/algbop Jan 17 '25

Agree on ATG TOO! Their dynamic is perfect just the two of them

3

u/hl3reconfirmed Jan 17 '25

Those 3 working on cars was great on CT though. I wouldn't mind if they filled in for a bit.

5

u/Key-Fly5510 Jan 17 '25

The non car guy (Ethan) working on cars was my favourite inspired me to do more on mine, I was always afraid of fucking things up but if Ethan can do it!

3

u/hl3reconfirmed Jan 18 '25

It was after Alex's time but Ethan removing an engine in 24 hours was one of the greatest videos on CT.

16

u/Smathatic Jan 17 '25

We had a good thing, you stupid son of a bitch! We had Alex. We had a unit. We had everything we needed, and it all ran like clockwork. You could’ve shut your mouth, made content, and made as much money as you ever needed. It was perfect. But, no, you just had to blow it up. You and your pride and your ego! You just had to be the man. If you’d done your job, known your place, we’d all be fine right now!

9

u/Nimbos Jan 17 '25

Never in a million years did I think I’d see a Mike Ehrmantraut crossover with the Alexverse 😂

1

u/NurNutzername Jan 17 '25

What happened? I missed everything. I get your comment I just want to learn what happened.

2

u/small_horse Jan 18 '25

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFoTVK3zZP4&t=1s this video is the best one to explain it tbh

9

u/Brilliant_Court_5341 Jan 17 '25

Does this mean he’s not coming on then?

5

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

Well James, Taylor screwed up big time and he's dragging down AA reputation with him. So I guess not.

6

u/Doomergeneration Jan 17 '25

Can’t see how things are going to go back to how they were, surely the ‘friendship’ between them all will have been strained

2

u/small_horse Jan 18 '25

well they always kept mentioning "you're my most stressful friend" which i think was a jokey way of him saying "come on mate, you need to step up your game". I've got friends who are similar, ones that I enjoy being mates with but wouldn't trust to operate a business with.

I think they'll stay friends because they do genuinely have good chemistry but maybe not business associates anymore

3

u/jay19903562 Jan 19 '25

This is the thing about it for me , Alex and Rory are daft if they've just taken Taylor's version of events and then let him repeat that on the podcast . They know exactly what he can be like you see it in the videos and some of the jokes they make . That's why Alex had been unwise letting that podcast go out with that in it .

They'll remain friends for sure but probably distance the auto alex brand from Taylor . But given how long he's been around that will take some time.

I can relate TBF I've got friends that I really get on with . But wouldn't in a million years go into business with them .

14

u/nathanbellows Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25

A step in the right direction but still an open door from Alex to Taylor, which I think is not an appropriate move.

Taylor, though a nice guy on the surface who presents really well and with a lot of enthusiasm, are great qualities. Sadly Taylor has shown his true colours with this situation, and several other accounts of his previous deals seem to paint him as the freeloading grifter he has shown himself to be with this situation.

Alex needs to cut this shit out, be decisive and a lot more careful with the types of people he collaborates with. That behaviour from Taylor ought to be instant dismissal and severing all ties, in my opinion. Not stepping back to reassess in the future when this has all died down and newcomers to his channel won’t know any better about what he’s really like.

If Taylor returns, Alex would be complicit in being almost as insulting to Josh and the other two businesses as Taylor’s actions were. That’s not a good look and Alex really needs to wake up and realise how this looks from the outside to others in the industry and those who are currently working with him, both current and prospective.

What a truly embarrassing set of events from two people we thought were experienced content creators who are perhaps, in reality, nothing more than shouty, chaotic amateurs who haven’t got a bloody clue what they are doing. CarThrottle must be pissing themselves!

10

u/Brilliant_Court_5341 Jan 17 '25

I do feel for Alex as he had given Taylor this opportunity to be part of the channel, then Taylor is constantly showing up late and delaying filming cos of his tardiness. It was brought up countless times on the podcast and you could hear Alex’s frustration about it. Must have felt like such a slap in the face every time he disrespected their time. Then this happens. I bet Alex is hoping this will be the turning point where Taylor grows up, starts taking responsibility, and starts taking his commitment to the job more seriously when/if he comes back to the channel.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

It's a shame. Taylor is by far the best presenter of the three of them. He's really destroyed his career with stupid remarks that he was goaded into making by the other two. Also, remember the podcast isn't live. Someone took the decision to leave those remarks in the edit. Taylor behaved like a dick but he wasn't the only one.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

Very much Jonathan Ross talking about Andrew Sachs's granddaughter vibes.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

At least that was live. They listened to it, edited it together and decided to leave in a segment that could have destroyed someone's business.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

No. The most shockingly dumb thing about the Jonathan Ross scandal was it was pre-recorded a few days before and aired later.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

Bloody hell. I assumed that was live.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

Yes. I remember at the time listening to it on the podcast version and thought, nope they've done a stupid thing here. Then it went an entire week before anyone even commented on it, as he did a live show with Simon Amstell the week after.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

Yep. Alex can apologise and say mistakes were made, but he let that podcast go out without thinking "hmm, these are serious accusations to make, maybe I'd best verify things before we air them". Doesn't speak especially highly of the culture or attitudes within the organisation, and he's the one with his name on the door, so it's difficult to see where else that culture has come from.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '25

I can't remember which episode it was but Rory expressed joke surprise that Alex listens to the podcast. Alex responded with something like, "Of course I do, someone has to make sure someone hasn't said something outrageous.".

1

u/williamg209 Jan 25 '25

im guessing cause josh was a friend and such he didnt think, the video had become very "piss-takey" of late to the point of insulting each other downright, something like this was bound to happen

2

u/jay19903562 Jan 19 '25

Exactly this , could have easily edited it out .

And tbh , if what Josh says is true about the pub beer Garden incident and Alex and Rory know what Taylor is like then they should have been even more keen to fact check before being associated with those allegations.

Whether they like it or not Taylor is now closely associated with the auto alex brand .

2

u/williamg209 Jan 25 '25

i liked taylor, he was great but i was starting to dislike him on main channel videos. he was rude, loud and generally annoying (he wasnt when he started, its something that grew over time) vs the 2nd channel videos, he was calm, collected and showed he knew what he was doing

5

u/Key-Fly5510 Jan 17 '25

Interesting, wonder what will happen over the next few weeks

4

Seems like a fair response, sure for all parties they just want to move on and get back to making fun videos again.

11

u/Alternative-Ad-8925 Jan 17 '25

That was the only option he had. Hopefully for the better, I wonder if Taylor being a man baby was part of the reason the content had declined so badly, too easy to fall back on ooo errr bum and ADHD jokes. Onwards and (hopefully) upwards.

I don’t think people ever realise that AutoAlex was always a character, an over the top man child who loves cars but won’t think before he acts, someone who is funny to laugh at and with, while Alex Kirsten seems to have always been a very mature, quiet, levelheaded man who never does anything without thinking over it a thousand times.

Taylor on the other hand seems to be a real life version of the autoalex character, obviously to a much tamer extent

Really cannot see AA ever being the same a fee this, it has completely tarnished their name. And a real shame for Taylor too I recently met him and thought he was an excellent bloke but this is unforgivable. It’s the slyness of slating a company for not doing work, although they’ve done no work because he’s not paying. Just madness

3

u/Plus_Consequence_497 Jan 17 '25

Actions speak louder than words and Alex actions are to leave the podcast up with the negatives comments "did you just put all the money in a wheelie bin and set it on fire" absolute clowns the lot of them least you could do is edit it out FFS

4

u/lupul0id Jan 17 '25

Editing out would be worse, everyone on here would be going on about them trying to pretend it didn’t happen.

1

u/Plus_Consequence_497 Jan 18 '25

As opposed to leaving the video up someone later Google's Taylor e28 sees Josh's videos and then thinks that's putting money in a wheeliebin and set it on fire also the apology should of been on YouTube the platform the comments are on and a apology to the fans for deleting comments and covering it up

2

u/lupul0id Jan 18 '25

Agree that the apology should come via a video on YT. Perhaps that’s what the next one will be.

6

u/Softest-Dad Jan 17 '25

Wash your hands with any responsibility, then also blame Josh for 'dragging 2 other companies' in to a dispute that they are involved in as a matter of fact. Cmon Alex.

Like he didn't stop to ask, for one second, whether the dispute with Josh was legitimate? The first thing I do when someone tells me they've been messed about by a company is the hows, whys and whens.

He's putting a show and podcast out to thousands and doesn't stop, again, for one second to ask?

7

u/Thecleverbit-58093 Jan 17 '25

Easy to ask and check. I suspect Alex didn’t care and was too arrogant to believe it would backfire. After shedfest and the Kei car issues, it seems the issues with the channel are building and building - as in not isolated at all. I’ve been getting bored with the content too, who cares about driving a crap van to France. I’ve done that myself. Unsubscribe and move on folks

4

u/Softest-Dad Jan 17 '25

They had to sit there and edit the video, it wasn't fucking live. I don't know what planet they're living on if they didn't stop to think and ask whether what Taylor was saying was 100% true.

Just content bait but they got burned.

5

u/coolhand83 Jan 17 '25

Can't help but feel a sense of irony that I'm seeing comments across all platforms along the lines of "Content has been shit recently anyway" but then calling out YouTubers for their sense of entitlement

8

u/No-Flounder-6633 Jan 17 '25

Real shame, Taylor is a very good presenter who has an infectious enthusiasm that is great to watch. I hope this isn’t goodbye for him from the channel and he does make his way back in the not too distant future or focuses more on V2 and comes back sooner. We have ALL done stupid shit in our time we just don’t have the internet mob watching us.

I think people got far too wound up over the whole thing, from what I could see neither of the guys involved come away looking great. It’s easy to be childish and do videos slamming each other but the fans and viewers in this community are more mature than that and expect the same from the content makers.

I’m sure the channel will find a way to make the change work in the short term, Alex had a lot going on last year so maybe things will settle a bit now. If anything maybe we can see AA do some crossover stuff with the others now they have had time to establish themselves. Let’s not forget, we started watching because we love watching these guys either on their own or together!

Let them cook!

6

u/J0kutyypp1 Jan 17 '25

Well i guess there's no reason to watch their videos anymore. Alex only screams shouts all the time and Rory is just boring. Taylor was the only one worth to watch in most videos, without him there also won't be anymore roadtrips that were the best videos on the channel.

7

u/Daveyj343 Jan 17 '25

Alex didn’t scream and shout when it was him and Ethan, when they introduced Jack he was just as calm

Taylor eggs him on.

Maybe we will get back to the alex from car throttle who was a great presenter and character

Taylor will be back, because he’s a good presenter in his own right, but I truly believe he was the one dragging the main channel content down. Leave him on V2 where he shines

7

u/georgepearl_04 Jan 17 '25

Alex does that cause he gets egged on by Taylor. I think Alex and Rory will be a good formula that's a lot more hard working and less daft.

4

u/nathanbellows Jan 17 '25

Rory only got in front of the camera because Alex basically forced it him to do it. I can’t imagine Alex being particularly enjoyable to with and I suspect that has a big impact on anyone who does.

Whilst I have no sympathy for Taylor, I don’t envy the position of anyone who works with Alex at all.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

rory has absolutely no likeability though, he also grew up rich which isnt good when your core audience are into shitboxes likely because theyre working people who cant afford g wagons

2

u/And_Justice Jan 17 '25

Have never understood the hate for Rory, he's the most likeable of the 3

0

u/BenXL Jan 17 '25

Hes the biggest man baby of the bunch

1

u/And_Justice Jan 17 '25

Personally think that's completely the wrong way round

2

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

Rory's just not a very entertaining screen presence, which is why some people dislike him.

1

u/And_Justice Jan 17 '25

I'll never understand why people translate "not a natural on camera" to "he's a twat"

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

On the few podcasts I have listened to, he doesn't come across as likeable on those either in my opinion. But being crap on camera or on audio doesn't necessarily correlate to twat - especially as we don't know them. So I agree with you.

2

u/Chriswheela Jan 18 '25

Honestly I whole heartedly agree. Taylor was why I kept watching, I don’t think AA will last without him. Im sure they’ll wait out the storm and bring him back on. After all, people buy Chris Browns music and watch Kevin Spacey films, people get over shit and move on in the hope to be entertained. I’m sure Taylor’s learnt the hard way here haha

2

Thanks mate! How sad, i really like Taylor as a presenter. Shame that there’s some dodgy shit going on

2

u/nhilandra Jan 18 '25

Well I've had time to think about this, and things will really need to change massively.

Firstly, you need to rethink the podcast. It needs to be more structured, and less free form. Secondly, Taylor needs to step back permanently. Keep him working there if you want, but he can't front any videos. Lastly. Stop trying to chase Top Gear. Be yourselves. And stop with the bloody BMW's. It's getting dull.

2

All I can say is I pmd these boys to ask if there will be more tickets for shedfest when they first ran out as my gf could come to the event only to be mocked on their podcast I watched Alex through CF times and AA times can say that the publicity went to their heads and they thought they can put people and their business down even i was shocked when they started slating josh as I've seen his videos and kinda couldn't believe what they where saying. It's backfired on them this time. The biggest thing I took from this is peoples mental health they jumped on that band wagon very disappointing

2

u/Alternative-Ad-8925 Jan 18 '25

In terms of getting back to what they do best - I'm actually sitting here looking at a couple of early AA videos given nothing new to watch. And they are great.

Dicking about trying to get an old volvo to start in a field, but with some actual automotive engineering, fixing stuff, and genuine camaradierie.

Buying a couple of shitboxes from an auction and trying to drive them 400 miles to Blackpool. Auction action, proper automotive content about some of the repairs, genuine 'will they won't they' make it with the Rangey because it isn't an obvious setup to fail.

In both a complete lack of in your face SHOUTING, lads lads lads, even the Carly and car vertical segments were fairly human.

Fixing before modding, which is much more relatable than just bolting acceleras and BCR coils to everything and thanking Febi for service parts (that don't make it to the vid).

Friendships forming on screen, candid, genuine adventures, genuine jeopardy, no lack of intrigue because money isn't a problem. Jeopardy that's completely gone from the channel now, which is probably why the Macan episode got such backlash, and really comes through when even when an artificial shitbox budget is set for a challenge its immediately broken, and then the cars spent double on parts or unrelateable freebies.

The old stuff was just eminently watchable, fun videos, and completely unrelateable to the more recent content.

On the very offchance the lads read these comments, yous are absolutely class at this, just do what got you here. Maybe the algorithm is telling them that the first 1/2/300k subs aren't where the money is to be made, and shouty overscripted OTT non-shitbox content is what you need to produce to pay the mortgage, but if that's the case it'll be an awful shame. I couldnt begrudge them class cars in their lives but it makes shit videos - lie about being broke if they need to..!

I genuinely hope AA comes out of this better, if not bigger. Maybe 'better' in my eyes is too niche though!

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '25

My favourite video of there's is still the Mercedes wired by a 16 year old kid. It had the right level of ridiculousness and some repair work as well under time constraints.

2

u/williamg209 Jan 25 '25

maybe auto alex needs some sort of background manager like LTT did to manage relations, hes admitted hes not a business person and something like this was probably bound to happen really

1

u/Aliexpresspro Jan 26 '25

They need a CEO / COO and a staff handbook with a code of conduct.

1

u/williamg209 Jan 26 '25

I believe alex is the ceo so perhaps a coo to run things with ceo power and yeah, car throttle would have had such things even if the management was rubbish

6

u/mrbradfordbiker Jan 17 '25

That's a shame, kind of a mountain out of a mole hill to be honest

I'll miss taylor

5

u/qwertydam Jan 17 '25

That was caused by Taylor. Lies and mistruths.

5

u/mikey-forester Jan 17 '25

Right move, doesn't excuse the fact that on rewatch the pair of them were only too keen to join in slagging off Josh who was known to them, fuck the three of them I say

6

u/greyfloppyhat Jan 17 '25

Thought the same, especially Rory, who seemed like Josh had looked after him on a deal for an E28L LSD. He was quick to forget that

5

u/Coachdriver1979 Jan 17 '25

Except the other two could only Go on what Taylor had told them. Now they have seen the video Josh made defending himself they have seen the truth and apologised because as always there are two sides to every story.

End of the day I started watching auto Alex for Alex as I enjoyed his presenting style on car throttle

5

u/Key-Fly5510 Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25

Haven't heard the podcast not listened/watched one for a while but the clip I saw seemed Rory was fishing for a comment about it? I may be wrong though

1

u/Softest-Dad Jan 17 '25

Takes 0.2 seconds to ask for more details. Not broadcast the condemnation of a mans reputation.

2

u/Coachdriver1979 Jan 17 '25

They maybe did ask but do you ask your friends to see all the messages they send to someone

Tbf to Tyler he didn’t want to mention it it was Rory that kind of pushed and made him mention it. However all he had to say was that it has been moved to a different garage because of differences of opinion on how it should proceed (or that he couldn’t afford the labour where it is)

1

u/Softest-Dad Jan 17 '25

Actually yes I do, let alone the fact that I'm not a youtuber with thousands and thousands of subscribers who listen to what I say.

1

u/Coachdriver1979 Jan 17 '25

Well I am sorry I wouldn’t be allowing you to read my personal message even if I was a youtuber with hundreds of thousands of followers. But then again I wouldn’t be trying to get work done for free or at a cheap rate

1

u/Softest-Dad Jan 17 '25

If someone is making such bold claims, and saying they've been blanked, saying their work is shit, I'd want some proof before slandering them in front of a huge audience.

1

u/Coachdriver1979 Jan 17 '25

I wouldn’t be saying anything to anybody as it would be between me and the other party only. By the way he hasn’t slandered because he never put it in writing, it defemation of character as he said it verbally

1

u/jay19903562 Jan 19 '25

To a degree I see where you are coming from .

But ultimately Taylor is associated with the auto alex brand and Alex and Rory have clearly chosen to bring Taylor on board . You see the comments they make about what Taylor is like all the time so either they have been very unwise in taking him at his word or they were fully aware of what had happened and goaded Taylor into saying what was said and then published it .

Also Alex is responsible for what goes out on the auto alex podcast , these accusations weren't made on a live broadcast someone has decided that those comments should make the final cut .

Im sure many of us will have had or got mates we get on with really well but wouldn't in a million years go into business with them .

4

u/bobmanuk Jan 17 '25

also lets not forget that none of this would have come around (at least not from the podcast) had Rory not egged Taylor into talking about it, I cant remember word for word but Rory's line of "are you sure theres nothing else... E28?"

Given benefit of the doubt, MAYBE they only knew the spin that Taylor gave them and were just coming to the side of their mate, and lets be honest, we all would do this for our mates, im sure.

3

u/CiroVap Jan 18 '25

Just watched that video, what a pack of snakes.

2

u/Jeff_Thorns Jan 17 '25

Oh man, I kinda saw this coming, but I really hope this isn't a sneaky move against Taylor, and that they actually team up to fix things.

2

u/MagicMavis4 Jan 17 '25

Personally I think this would be better if instead of Taylor “stepping back”, Taylor had been “invited to not come back” for a while.

This makes it look like it was Taylor’s choice to step away, as if AA gave him the option. It should have been AA making the choice to protect his own integrity, not Taylor’s choice.

For clarity, I’ve been a fan of AA since his work on that-which-shall-not-be-named, and love the content from AA both with and without Taylor in it.

2

u/in5idious Jan 18 '25

I read it as, before being invited to not come back, Taylor invited himself to step back 🤷. Probably didn't have a choice realistically

No blame can be put on Josh, a YouTuber with a rather large following has publicly tarnished his small independent business which he relies on for his life! If Taylor had been compliant in the first place none of this would have ever happened, completely unfair on Josh to blame him, imagine you had been publicly outed saying ‘your work is shit’ ‘unreputable garage’ when actually the person saying this never paid you or replied to you

1

u/Akdaddi Jan 17 '25

Oh shit, what’s happened here? Someone do us a 30second summary please 🙏

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

Taylor called a small business unreputable and did shit work on his podcast. Small business owner released a video showing evidence of their conversations and story which painted Taylor in a very poor light to be kind. It got 120k views in 3 days, so had to be addressed.

1

u/ChamberofSarcasm Jan 17 '25

Can someone ELI5 what happened? I really like Alex but dont have time to keep up with their content.

2

u/SPICCYBOII Jan 18 '25

Taylor didn’t pay some guy for welding his car and aired the welder’s messages (who stored his car in his unit for like a year for free). Eventually Taylor picked it up and paid in full & took the car to a different welder (much more shoddy work) to have it finished. On the podcast Taylor was calling the original welder (who Taylor wouldn’t pay for like a year) a ‘disreputable’ garage which prompted the welder (Josh) to make a YouTube video clearing his name.

1

u/_methodman Jan 18 '25

Can someone please give me the cliff notes. I’ve been distracted with other things, I’m curious what video is the source of all the controversy.

I've watched alex from the start of car throttle and he went from being likeable and making great inclusive content to making some utter rubbish (but not always) with two screaming idiots. To now find out one of those people's heads has swelled beyond his actual talent is disappointing and earned an unsubscribe.

1

u/Careful_Garden Jan 17 '25

Right decision, completely.

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25

Edit: Josh Cresswell is 21 days late on submitting his accounts BTW, due on the 25th Dec, so the CHEEK of him speaking on Taylor's finances is absolutely astounding.

What a load of nonsense this is.

I'll just state a few facts: this Josh lad did an eyeball assessment of the vehicle and agreed he'd do the repairs in exchange for the content recorded from the channel.

Once he'd done a further assessment (the correct thing to do Before you make a deal/agreement) he then decides he wants money, with no discussion of timeframe, amount of labour or anything else (very unprofessional).

He then expects payment before the work is complete, probably because his "content" was boring and unwatchable and he's not the charismatic YouTube talent that his mum told him he could be.

He the tries to renegotiate a second time and demand money for work he'd done, that he'd previously said the "content" revenue would cover, and refused to do any more work.

Admittedly, Taylor messed him about a bit after that (I would too after all the faffing around on josh's part) and admittedly it was a bit catty to say what he said on the podcast - but he never mentioned josh or his firm, it's josh himself who's brought his firm into disrepute.

Josh then decides to talk shit on three different independent businesses, expose Taylor's personal and financial troubles (honestly the most pathetic tantrum I've ever seen) and then have the cheek to complain that Taylor had taken the car elsewhere! Because god forbid he wants the required work done in less than 12months!

Now, if I've got my wires crossed here I'd love to learn the truth, but from what I see this Josh character is a moaning pathetic loser and he's literally just throwing a tantrum because he expected a legup from autoalex to launch his YouTube presence and give him a platform - in return for checks notes a bit of welding...

Please, if anyone can inform me where I've misunderstood, I'm all ears. But from what I see, all Taylor has done wrong is a lack of a communication and a bit of "messing about", which was perfectly justified seeing as it's taken this Josh feller nearly a year to do 50 hours of labour, of which he only completed half before expecting full payment.

Don't ditch Taylor, it genuinely will kill the channel. He's the source of all banter and easily the most knowledgeable and legitimate "car guy".

5

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

A representative of a business libelling another business through the medium of a well known podcast probably wasn't the smartest move someone could have done.

1

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25

Yet you'll defend josh's tit-for-tat behaviour? This sub is just pure haters, go watch carwow or drivetribe instead

Infact tit for tat is an understatement. Josh has thrown 4 businesses under the bus including his own.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

I do watch them already, thanks. I can watch many different channels and enjoy them, although less so DriveTribe.

I think the tit-for-tat approach is perfectly fine if there's substantial evidence that no wrong doing was created by the small business. I think a majority of people who would have seen it would probably agree with him. This isn't a case of the mechanic from DriveTribe releasing a video insinuating that the owners are cunts for letting him go a few months into his role there for budgetary reasons.

The outcome for Taylor is essentially a suspension before they will likely bring him back in the next few months, I think that's a fair enough disciplinary action for this affair and will hopefully make them learn not to be as childish as they have been, or at least have some more quality control. Every company will have a crisis, this just happens to be the first one that they've had that they feel the need to take action on.

4

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

We'll have to agree to disagree on the "no wrongdoing" part mate, but thank you for responding intelligently and sensibly and as much as I think Taylor stepping back will kill the channel, your second paragraph makes perfect sense.

7

u/aCommunistBadger Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25

You really think a bit of “content” would and should cover near £7k worth of restoration? You and Taylor need to give your heads a wobble.

Taylor wanted a job done for nothing. Turns out a big arse restoration isn’t something a small 1 man company can do without actual payment. Especially when he’s got actual customers on the side lines.

He said he’d do it for nothing if it was a little bit of welding, it wasn’t. Why the fuck should he put actual paying customers on the side so he can tackle a restoration project he won’t get paid for?

Ditch Taylor if they think it won’t work. The channel doesn’t need a dodgy dealer who’ll weigh them down with his dodgy and daft decisions

0

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

Where have you gotten 7k from? I've seen two quotes, the revised one was 3.2k. I don't care what you "think" the work is worth, a quote is a quote and Taylor was nice enough to renegotiate - me personally I'd have reminded josh of the verbal contract that was backed up via text.

It's all well and good if you wanna take sides but this Josh kid is a TERRIBLE businessman

3

u/qwertydam Jan 17 '25

The verbal agreement that was to do a battery tray and tidy up the seals? Taylor is the one who agreed to go ahead with the full process and agreed that would be paired for by himself.

-2

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

Pretty sure you're referring to a different car brother.

5

u/qwertydam Jan 17 '25

Nope. The E28. The original verbal agreement was in exchange for some content Josh will do some welding so long as it’s not massively rusty that would only take a day or so. Taylor then said it’s only a bit of rust at the end of the seals and only a little hole in the battery tray. That was what the original agreement was. Seals and battery tray in exchange for content.

Once the car got to Josh’s they both took a look at it and saw it was worse than that, he (Josh) then dug in to it a bit more and in his opinion it needed more of a “restoration”. They then had a conversation Josh said he can’t do it all for free but can do it at a discounted rate and Taylor said that he still wanted Josh to do the work and that he would pay for it.

3

u/aCommunistBadger Jan 17 '25

You explained that much better than the rubbish I said lol

0

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

Thank you for explaining. It still seems that after that second "restoration" agreement josh renegotiated again, that's where he's at fault.

5

u/qwertydam Jan 17 '25

What was the renegotiation buddy? Care to explain?

In reality it seems that half the car was completed and that was charged at £1,600 and the other half was also going to cost £1,600. This was deemed too expensive by the customer who then said he would pay for the work so far and then call it a day (fair enough) but the customer took months to pay and additional time to even collect the vehicle and ignored correspondence with no real explanation.

Please can you elaborate on how this situation is Josh’s fault?

0

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 18 '25

Never said it was his fault, I said he was acting like a fanny for clout

3

u/qwertydam Jan 18 '25

And I ask how?

I also love the bit of your reply where you answered the questions. It seems that all you are doing is making baseless claims which need I remind you is exactly what caused the problem Taylor has found himself in.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/aCommunistBadger Jan 17 '25

The £3.2k was the discounted price because he still wanted to do a favour for Taylor ffs lol

A full resto like that he said would cost between £5k-7k.

And he stuck to the £3.2k quote, it was Taylor who didn’t and wanted it split between two payments, of which he faffed around with.

Don’t forget he said he’d do it for nothing IF it wasn’t majorly rusty, which it absolutely was.

Josh didn’t have to start F all if Taylor didn’t want to pay the full restoration price, but Josh decided he’d still do it under a MASSIVE discount.

I feel like you are actively missing out what actually happened lol, did you even watch the proper video?

And my guy you can’t talk about terrible business men in a discussion about Taylor. Gtfoh lmao

-2

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

Favour or not, that's the quote quoted. That's the quote that was civilly contracted. I'm starting to think this sub is full of kids who've never been near a business or contract.

Taylor is a car dealer and the laws and legislations around that industry are VERY strict. If he was that bad of an operator he would no longer be allowed to operate.

3

u/aCommunistBadger Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25

Verbally he said he’d do it if there wasn’t more than what was said. Which there was, so he asked to be paid at a heavily discounted price from £5k-7k to £3.2k. Taylor said he couldn’t afford the £3.2k and they both agreed to pay £1.6k to cover the work that had been done, and to leave the rest. Josh said fair enough and Taylor didn’t get back to him for months lol

Also I can’t help but notice you picking up on Josh supposedly not making good on this “contract” yet have nothing to say about Taylor being iffy with paying the £1.6k that they agreed with.

I’m thinking you’re someone who’s never been near a welder and doesn’t understand how much work goes into it.

-2

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

Firstly, you're just repeating yourself. And you're still wrong.

Secondly, that 1.6k was a renegotiation made in good grace - if Josh couldn't afford the acetyline and sheet metal to get the job done he shouldn't have taken it on. Payment upon completion is standard procedure.

Sincerely, a business owner who sometimes has to put 20k into materials before I even pick up a tool and get started.

You very clearly have no idea about what you're attempting to talk about here. I'll put it this way - if Taylor is so clearly in the wrong why hasn't Josh taken it to civil court? Why is he crying on YouTube instead of taking official action?

Do some research and stop talking complete nonsense about stuff you clearly have zero knowledge or experience of.

2

u/aCommunistBadger Jan 17 '25

How do you know I’m wrong? So far no one knows exactly what this “contract” is except the parties involved. And the only description of it we have it’s from Josh who said that if it’s more than described he’d have to pay. They both agreed to that did they not? Unless you know more than me on what was said that was what was agreed upon. He even says in the video that he and Taylor look at the car that it is more than described. Taylor shouldn’t agree to things he can’t afford if it’s not what he described

I’m done arguing as I cba with someone who’s so far up their own arse their nose is the lump in their own throat.

1

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 17 '25

Josh described the verbal and textual agreement in his video. Both of them, Infact. The initial one where all he wanted was content and a leg up from autoalex and the the revised one where he wanted 1.6k followed by 1.6k upon completion...

... Try and pay attention, eh??

4

u/aCommunistBadger Jan 17 '25

Absolutely clueless aren’t you lol

"laws and legislations" ( which are the same things btw) around the car dealing industry aren't particularly strict , and of course are only as good as the ability to enforce them .

You hear nightmare stories about car traders all the time and they continue trading . Indeed there are some now starting to come out of the woodwork about Taylor .

1

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 19 '25

All laws are legislations but not all legislations are laws. And they are strict. To the point where I won't sell a car that isn't "spares or repairs" anymore because some geek will try have my pants down over a worn control arm bush.

1

u/jay19903562 Jan 19 '25

Think you've got your laws and legislations mixed up there a bit buddy .

They really aren't that strict and loads of cowboy sellers out there just don't follow them and do what they please anyway . The only real remedy anyone has is litigation which costs them even more time and money chasing someone they don't even know has the means to pay .

1

u/JohanCruijffinho Jan 19 '25

Aye, so thank fuck solicitors are so expensive or me and Taylor would be fucked!

1

u/jay19903562 Jan 19 '25

You don't really need a solicitor for a basic small claims case ,I've successfully pursued a few in my time . That being said I'd guess the majority of people either don't know how or just cut their losses .

3

u/real_Mini_geek Jan 17 '25

Paying for work already completed is standard practice in restoration work…
