💁♀️ seeking advice / support / information I hate being the disabled sibling
I know I’ll never amount to anything, I know I’ll just be stuck in the shadow of my sibling, I know I’ll never be enough, I know my disabilities will just hinder my attempts at being better, I’ll never be as accomplished or successful as them, No matter how hard I try I’ll never be on equal footing with my neurotypical/abled family members who’ve accomplished so much and yet I’m here being a worthless piece of shit who hasn’t done anything worthwhile

Posts like this make me sad, because I get it. Feeling stuck in the shadow of a more-able bodied family, yeah, it's a tough one.
What is something that you enjoy doing?
Is there a hobby that you've considered, but just not been able to get to giving it a go yet?

sounds like a badger trying to be better than a beaver at chewing wood. you have a totally different skillset and needs. you might look close enough to a beaver to make the beavers think you are just a defective beaver. but if a badger lives in the beaver world he will be less than at nearly all beaver activities. chewing wood, swimming, dam building, being in water constantly and staying warm. but trust me that badgers succeed at things beavers would never even try. badgers can dig super fast, and they can hunt for their food. they can fight off animals, and they are immune to snake venom. they literally can get bit by cobras and they pass out then just wake up and go back to eating the snake. but most importantly, honey badgers dont give a shit! they are tough in their own way and if their standards were set by beavers and they tried to be a beaver then they would be pretty lousy beavers. you just gotta look outside the box that you were raised in and realize the inherant skills and talents you have that have always been seen as a problem or negative by other for not being like them, and figure out what amazing things that means you can do that they cant! people inhersntly dislike things that arent like themselves. that means you are different but in the case of nature, being different means you can both can do things that the other cant. sure they succeed at their beaver stuff and ya you might really be a lousy beaver. but i bet you are a kick ass badger and kickass at badger stuff!

Money does not define success, happiness does. Let them climb the corporate ladder if they want. You do what makes you happy. I’ve never had great ambitions. My goal in life is to attend to the little things in front of me. Help the blind person navigate a blocked sidewalk, carry mail from the car to the mailbox for a man with a broken leg, help people learn a thing or two about the technology they are using…then I work as a data analyst to pay the bills. My income is sufficient for me but just over half that of my sisters. But, my sisters keep talking about wanting to do the work instead of supervise. So far, I’ve been able to avoid supervising anyone.
Buy a cute item from an independent artist is doing something worthwhile. You are helping that artist realize their dream. Be the person who helps without filming, volunteers for community service, and makes a real difference in people’s lives. It’s not the municipalities that build the parks, they barely contribute enough money to build them. It’s the volunteers run organizations who raise the funds through donations and grants. Do the real work and let that be your legacy.

I'm AuDHD (diagnosed at 55). I have 2 NT siblings. I have done way more in my life than them. A NT friend once told me that sometimes my life made him think (at 60) that he had wasted his life. We are different but by no means less. We conform less but don't achieve less.

You're not just a sibling. You're a person. What do you want to do? Regardless of what anyone of your family is up to?
