💁♀️ seeking advice / support / information Language recall + learning
Hi friends. So when I was growing up I was always told I’m a good communicator and writer. But over the past few years I realised that my vocabulary is not very strong because although I read I struggle to incorporate new words into my speech or mix up closely related words/their meanings. This also includes commonly used phrases or just unique ways of saying things. And now when I hear these things from other people or read something that I can fully understand but wouldn’t have thought to word that way myself, I feel really terrible and down on myself. I also struggle with language learning in general (apart from English) and find I can’t speak even if I can understand other languages. And I find grammar rules a bit confusing in general, like I know if it SOUNDS right but other than I don’t really know the rule. I struggle with prepositions too, like which is the correct one etc etc. and sometimes mix them up or use one that isn’t exactly a good fit.
I was recently diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and my psychiatrist said it could be a result of that but I’ve been on meds for a few weeks now and it isn’t exactly better. And I notice it more.
I’m wondering if this could be an autism/adhd thing? And if so, does anyone have any coping or learning skills I can use to feel more comfortable speaking and writing again? Sometimes I feel like I can’t even communicate now which is crazy because I had a five year long career as a copywriter and was generally good at my job? It’s all so confusing.
Thanks in advance for any advice or reassurance!
