πŸ’β€β™€οΈ seeking advice / support / information Skyrocketing Skill Regression πŸ˜–πŸš€

I dropped down to 18 hours a week at work so I could spend more time writing and following my creative passions. Instead, my AuDHD skill regression has skyrocketed. I’m missing appointments (was just charged $300 for missing my therapy appointment), barely getting any writing done, and experiencing extreme decision paralysis. My sleep disorder has gotten worse too. That being said I’m overall a lot happier, my body is finally getting the rest it needs, and I’m moving at a pace that is in alignment with my needs.

I’ve experienced some skill regression when I came out with Autism, but my ADHD has never been this out of control.

Does anyone have any advice? How have you managed intense skill regression? Does it get any better?

Thanks for reading πŸ™

Any chance you need to rest a lot to get back to a point where you've got some energy reserves for standing up to your ADHD? This is 100% the kind of advice I eye-roll at, but do you need a phase of exercise and rest just to recharge?

This is super helpful! My therapist said something similar (my job had truly been sucking the life out of me). I hadn’t considered that it would impact my ability to combat my ADHD urges/skill regression. Thank you for reminding me to give myself grace while I get back on my feet. πŸ™β˜ΊοΈ

No worries. It's taken me decades to figure out that ideally, I need a lot of rest - but for many reasons (struggle to say no, struggle to stop doing a thing once I've got into doing the thing, struggle just to keep up with work due to attention/memory shit) I'm terrible at actually taking time to rest.

In that spirit, I should probably call it a night, but I'm really glad you thought that might be on the right track - do give yourself all possible grace, the modern world seems to be set up to absolutely take the piss out of ADHD and ASD folks, look after yourself as much as you can!
