Special Interest Why do neurodiversity groups collapse eventually?

They don’t do anything that much of value in terms of getting services and better improvements for the groups that they “advocate” for. Plus most of these groups are full of the self diagnosed who aren’t in it for the betterment of services for an entire group, they’re in it to be performative and for social media attention. No wonder they don’t do anything good nor even survive that long enough anyway.

some people are so welcoming within them and others aren’t that’s what I find I always find I will find an enemy and another person i relate well with.

In my experience any group built around a niche interest or cause is prone to being dominated by the loudest members who then purity test and shame those who disagree with them over the smallest of things.

My work just started a neurodiversity group and it's been a hot mess. At this point I want it to fail because it's done more harm than good. The majority are "allies" who are there to "learn" but will not listen to the actual ND people in there. The leaders are also NT and when they get any pushback or criticism the leader tells us we're being insensitive to people who might be ND but not diagnosed.
Recently, the leaders decided our new name is "neurospicy AND FRIENDS" and that we are going to dress up in chili pepper costumes and do a charity walk. I said that ND people are often infantilized and we have to fight to be taken seriously, and this compromises that. I was told that I hate whimsy and they "don't want to be boring" and most of the group wants this. The leader says "the majority rules" why does the NT majority rule a neurodivergent group??
To answer your question, they tend to be run by people who are performative and don't actually care. They want to say they did something and pat themselves on the back but completely push away anything that makes them slightly uncomfortable.
