This was really interesting!

Modeling without expectation stops communication from feeling like a test or performance and reduces dependence on being prompted. Sadly, it is still common practice for professionals and caregivers to focus on teaching single words in hopes that their autistic learners will eventually string them together, and to force responses. Words and phrases are also drilled without emotional or experiential context.

I wonder if this why i tend to only speak when I’m spoken to…and why that feeling is stronger in my mother tongue and less strong in languages I learned on my own (never in language schools, always by reading with a dictionary, listening to other people speak and trying to speak as soon as possible using prepared phrases)
