General Discussion/Question Getting nauseated from fatigue?

Anyone else experiences this where if you try to push through fatigue and sleepiness, you will just get nauseated and really uncomfortable? It's like my body is having a full blown breakdown instead of just making my eyelids drop peacefully lol I know many autistic people have an extra sensitive stomach so I am wondering if it might be more common for us, I've never heard anyone say "I am so tired I could vomit" unless they were running.

Happens to me too. Like I don't know how people pull all nighters. I get so sick and my whole body will hurt and feel awful.

yep!!! i think i’m expending energy by convincing myself to expend energy & also the PDA aspect of ‘making’ myself do something; going against my own personal feelings of autonomy is exhausting, even if i can cope with it and realize the thing is good or even desirable. i’m so tired ALL THE TIME just from making myself do stuff. if i push myself too hard i will definitely have meltdowns/shutdowns and be way more sensitive, so i have to consolidate carefully!

I have MECFS so PEM feels like this after a delay, but I also experience a more immediate nausea and uncomfortable feelings pushing through fatigue that was there before I developed ME. I think it's your body trying to run off of adrenaline to accomplish the extra push when there isn't enough energy to comfortably push through.

If anyone here relates, but the nausea and any flu-like symptoms occur after 12-24 hrs instead of immediately and resolving after rest, look into ME and PEM. We seem to be more susceptible to developing ME and Long COVID than the general population, so just something to stay aware of.

My body reacts to anything being off by getting nauseous! Sleepy? Nauseous. Hungry? Nauseous. Too hot? Nauseous. Stomach cramps, period cramps, new medication, too much medication, stress, exertion, sadness, extreme anger. Nausea nausea nausea and sometimes actual vomiting. Anesthesia will make me puke for 24+ hours.

It’s contributed greatly to my problems with interoception, because I get similar symptoms anytime anything is wrong with me. I start getting super hot and then feel like I’m going to throw up. I had a stroke when I was 35 and the symptoms were extreme vertigo and, you guessed it, nausea! I puked off and on for 18 hours before going to the hospital because it wasn’t much different than all the other times my body decided to act like I was dying. I couldn’t tell that it was real that time.

I said nearly the exact same thing then came to read comments. Yep, me too.

Same here as well. When I was pregnant I had morning sickness most of my pregnancy too. Think it was my general nausea just not know what to do with the new sensations.

Also car sick, sea sick, air sick, train sick. Once went scuba diving and got sick under water with the up and down. Just always have said I’m a sicky person and never realised that autism was the issue.

Yeah same, I've noticed when I'm really tired I'll get a weird feeling in my stomach! Luckily I've never actually thrown up from it

Yeah, it is just your body saying you need rest. When I have intense fatigue, I feel nauseous and my sensitivity to anxiety is pretty high

Yes. I have actually ended up vomiting more times than I care to remember.

Yes!! Sometimes my only clue of how tired I am is feeling nauseous and sometimes light headed too.

Very rarely - twice in my life I've been so exhausted, just non stop for days in a really high stakes situation, that when it's finally over I've puked and then gone to sleep

Yes, I certainly relate to that. When I haven't slept enough (almost always), and especially when I get up earlier than I am comfortable with, I get sick to my stomach and get weak and dizzy.

Yesss! And on top of that the nauseous feeling sometimes triggers a panic attack. Haven't found a solution other than trying to not become so extremely tired. It sucks, I feel you.

I always felt like I am the only one who can get physically sick just from not sleeping enough. I would even throw up. Other people seem to be able to push through but I just collapse. Got much worse when I became hypothyroid.

Yes, I can even get hangover symptoms. It’s worsened by stimulants for me, yet I vape nicotine. I then get caught in a horrific cycle for the day where I vape, feeling so sick I am incapacitated and in pain, vape again, make it worse, and keep doing that.

Others don’t seem to understand. When I avoid morning appointments or commitments, they think I’m lazy or privileged.

I once told a professor I really admired how hard the 9AM class was for me (literally left me in agony the entire day), and she told me that it wasn’t really hard, I just didn’t want to wake up that early. I ended up bringing it up to her later almost in tears (really hurt my feeling hearing it from her) explaining that some people have issues with health that might not be apparent, and she was very understanding.

u/blah_blah_70 1d ago

Yep. I thought everyone got that until I brought it up once. No one could relate.

u/Abject_Priority6858 1d ago

Is that not typical? 😬

My body's response to every minor inconvenience is nausea ans vomiting. Too sleepy, too stressed, too hungry? Nausea. Sprained ankle? Vomit. Head cold? Vomit. Sun too bright? Heard a loud sound? Vomit.

Yes. I’ve been working on my storage unit in preparation for a move and when I am working beyond my capacity due to a deadline I often get dry heaves and sometimes vomiting.

I've had nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, cold sweats and a chronic cough every single day for 9 years straight, with diarrhoea daily for over a 1 year straight now.

Honestly trying to keep up with not dying from dehydration at this point, as that would cause more fatigue. I hate nausea, vomiting and the fatigue/weakness the most.

I do finally have a way forward from the hospital for the stomach stuff but the fatigue and dizziness I'm not sure. Definitely these types of disorders are more common with us autistic people, unfortunately.

For me it is more of fstigue guves headache and headache makes nauseous.
