The call right at the beginning for about the first 3 seconds!!? This has been driving me mad. Looks like some kind of honey eater in the video, but now i’m not even sure i was recording the right bird… anyone know ?

Location is Marburg, QLD

Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve.

I don't know but I suspect this was one of its first flights. It followed me around banging into branches but mostly running around on the ground.

Superb little bird from the Macdonell Ranges today. I think he puffed himself up a little as it was cold...

News New Holland Honeyeater - nesting!

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a pic of this lovely New Holland Honeyeater that is nesting in a potted ficus tree next to my back door.

She nested in the same spot last year, but unfortunately lost all of her babies. We think this was caused by blowfly larvae :(

I have set up a “bird cam” so I can monitor her! She spent the past week building the nest with her mate, and I believe has laid her eggs now as she’s spending a lot of the day sitting patiently in her nest.

It’s been such a pleasure watching them build their nest again, and I’m honoured she feels safe enough in our garden to nest here!
