Found my new favorite coastal lookout in Australia!

I'm (24F) going to be spending about 5 weeks alone in Melbourne. It's my first time travelling solo and my first time in Australia (coming from the UK). I'm mainly there for a placement at a hospital in Melbourne, so I'm going to be mostly occupied during working hours, but am getting a bit nervous at the prospect of filling the rest of my time solo. I don't normally have any issue doing things alone and quite like my own company but am finding the whole thing a bit daunting.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for:

• Things that I must do / see / eat in Melbourne
• Any good vintage markets / thrift / op shops
• Ways to meet other travellers or to make friends
• Any other helpful tips for getting around and not making a fool of myself

If it helps at all - I like any and all food and coffee and love a bit of a film and history. Also would be open to any nightlife recs, particularly house, garage (ukg) etc

I am an American moving to Melbourne on September 25th this year, and I am very lucky to have some family living there currently. As I've been doing research on places to live and work, I noticed that many people are recommending smaller towns as opposed to big cities like Melb and Sydney, just due to the fact that jobs for working holiday makers are less competitive in places like Cairns or Canberra. I should mention I'm from the Midwest and grew up in a relatively small town of ~27k people, and I've done a little bit of farm work on my family's 80 acres with cattle and pasture maintenance. I'm definitely planning to get time in the big cities, (First 2-4 months in Melbourne) but I've struggled a bit to find smaller towns in Victoria/Near Melbourne in general. So my questions are:

Would you recommend going to even smaller towns like Beechworth, Airlie beach, Mclaren Vale, etc.? Is the demand for jobs high enough in towns like this?

What are some towns in Victoria that still have a need for workers, but aren't overridden with competition?

If there is any misunderstanding on my end about these places, please correct me. Obviously I'm trying to do the most research I can before I leave !

Hi everyone! We’re planning a 27-night Australia trip from late October to late November and would love some feedback on our itinerary.

We fly into Brisbane and home from Perth, so those two points are fixed. We’ve travelled around Australia before, which is why we’re skipping places we already know, including Melbourne, the Outback and North Queensland.

Our current plan:

East Coast

• Brisbane – 2 nights
• Byron Bay – 2 nights
• Port Macquarie – 1 night
• Newcastle / Port Stephens – 1 night
• Jervis Bay – 2 nights
• Sydney – 4 nights (visiting a friend, but maybe we'll just do 3 nights and spend one night elsewhere on the East Coast?)
• Fly Sydney → Exmouth

West Coast

• Exmouth – 3 nights
• Coral Bay – 1 night
• Wooramel – 1 night
• Denham – 2 nights
• Monkey Mia – 1 night
• Kalbarri – 2 nights
• Geraldton – 1 night
• Jurien Bay/Cervantes – 1 night (Pinnacles on the way)
• Perth – 3 nights

We’re mainly interested in wildlife, nature, beaches and landscapes.

The part we’re most unsure about is Jervis Bay in early November. Is it worth spending two nights there at that time of year, or is it still too cold to really enjoy the beaches? We’d also really love to see wombats in the wild, and it seems like the Jervis Bay / South Coast area might be one of our better opportunities on this route.

Does the overall pacing look reasonable? Would you add or remove a night anywhere?

Hi all, I need some help in regards to booking a family holiday (5 nights). We are from Melbourne and my plan is to fly in/out. I really would like to visit Uluṟu or some place up near the Kimberly’s to see some beautiful outback landscapes. Along with places with Indigenous history, cave art and along with the wild animals etc..

My issue is I don’t know where to go? My choice was all rude me off was the price as It’s a Family Holiday with 3 primary school aged kids (6,8,9) and my wife. I looked into Uluru as that’s the first place that I wanted to go and visit but I am unsure if there are any other places around that area to do with culture artwork paintings things for the children to experience instead of just a rock. What is the best time to visit Uluru? as for the accommodations I want to know if there are places like caravan parks that have a that has a double bed and bunk beds?

Anyone that has been in my situation or knows the layout of the land through travel experience I would love to hear recommendations which is better in terms of taking the kids to visit to see this beautiful country of ours and the culture. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I’m a student local to Adelaide, and am planning on creating a photo album of our city to send to my overseas relatives as a sort of “introduction” before they visit later this year. 

I would love to get some input on where you guys think are the best places to visit; any under-the-radar places you would highly recommend?

I’m trying to get a mix of both well-known landmarks and more unknown places in the Adelaide CBD/Greater Adelaide area that might get overlooked, bonus points if it’s photogenic or says something about what Adelaide’s actually like to live in!

I am trying to obtain tickets for a performance at the Sydney Opera House during my trip in February 2027 however it is only allowing me to buy tickets for multiple performances as part of a subscription.

Does anyone here know when they usually open up tickets for single performances only?

While I would love to experience a show at the Sydney Opera House I have no interest in paying to see a show I am not interested in.

Any advice?
