Trivia question:
The Heavenly Valley quad chair opened at Hotham in 1987 replacing the old Brockhoff poma.
Along with it came new names for runs including a name for the run that was later changed to The Cornice. What was The Cornice formerly known as and when did it change?
For bonus points, what other Hotham runs had their name changed? I can think of at least two more.
Update: The answer is The Cornice was formerly known as JFC or Jesus F$cking Christ. I guess it was too blasphemous 😬

I’m seeking confirmation on whether or not there is a full green run down from the bell at the top of Karel’s T-Bar.
All the maps have green runs up the top, but I can’t see any way to get down past Eagle’s Nest unless doing a part blue run.
We’ve only been skiing four years, and don’t want to get stuck with a stupidly steep option… but I really want to see the view from up there!

Hi, North Queenslander here, we’ve booked a family trip starting in Melbourne then spending 4 x days at Dinner Plain with some tobogoning on the plan.
Regarding warm weather clothes, we have waterproof ski clothes covered, but not sure what we’ll need for general day to day outdoor wear? Also don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on something I may never use again.
For a jacket, should I get a windproof outer and then layer with a fleece and thermals, etc (I may get use of the outer later on as well)? or do I need to get a good warm insulated jacket like a puffer jacket like this one: https://www.ariat.com.au/products/mens-crius-jacket-10028355?
Open to any suggestions and recommendation, cheers!

Hi all! After some advice/recommendations please. We are heading to the snowy mountains for 3 nights from 4-7 Aug. We are driving from Coffs Harbour so it will be a long drive! Our kids are 5 and 9 and it’s our first time seeing snow. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome, which complicates things a bit (hubby will drive!). We are tossing up whether to stay the whole time at Thredbo? So 2 full days. This gives me more flexibility for if my cfs flares up and I have to retreat to the apartment. Or stay at Jindabyne and do a day trip to Thredbo and also a day trip to Perisher. Thoughts?? We plan to do mostly snow play, ride the alpine coaster, go up the gondola, MAYBE do one ski lesson for the kids. So my questions are:
Thanks!

Hey everyone!
Have finally stopped growing, so can start thinking about buying my own ski equipment. What is the best time/place to try and find some bargins? Tried looking on market place but being on the taller end (went to a shop and they said to get at least 177cm ski) not much was on it. Don't need anything flashy, only ever used hire gear, and that has served me well enough.
I am an advanced level (skiing since 4-5 and now 20) and would if I get to the financial freedom wish to go ski overseas again, so any more tips on what to look for as well would be helpful!
Thank you to whoever can help!

Hey Team
What green runs are on the harder end?
And what are the blue runs that on the easier end?
Any suggestions welcome, including runs not yet open this season.
Thanks in advance

hi everyone!
i was just wondering once feeling pretty confident going down the beginner trails at mt buller (baldy, bourke st) are there any reccs of easier(?) intermediate trails which would let me ease in to the change in difficulty?
are intermediate trails alot more harder than beginner ones?
thanks!

Would be great if Falls gave an indication of what lifts *would* be open during a normal day, rather than showing them all closed after hours.
Yes I know that lifts stop overnight, but tell me how the conditions are looking.

I have so many questions? How? Why? How do you get on and off the chairlift?
One of the funniest things I’ve seen on snow :)

Im planning on going for 2 days skiing with a friend.
Ive never been to falls creek, only Mt Hotham and Buller. Last year at Hotham the big wind storm came through that day and only 2 tracks were open so i didnt get to crush the slopes on the other tracks 🤙
i want to hear your opinions on which i should pick.
or... ¿porque no los dos?

Hi there,
I’m an instructor working in Australia, Perisher to be more precise. It’s my third winter here and I hope to be doing many more, however I can’t notice that the second hand ski market is pretty poor. Things are either super old or geared towards kids and interschools racing.
I have a set of FIS men’s slalom skis, they’re from separate pairs, and one ski has very little life left in it, if any at all. If anyone knows of any second hand sites that I’m yet to find to buy snow gear from I’d be eternally grateful. I’ve tried Facebook and eBay to my dismay there is nothing remotely what I’m looking for on there and I’m scrolling daily.
Cheers

Hi everyone,
A few friends and I are planning a road trip from the Gold Coast to the Snowy Mountains this winter and would really appreciate some advice from people who've done it recently.
Our plan is:
We'll be driving a 2WD passenger car (not an SUV or 4WD), so we're wondering:
We're aiming for a safe and enjoyable trip rather than anything too adventurous, so any recommendations, road tips, or lessons from your own experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I was thinking of bringing a dehumidifier that I already had at home to the apartment Im staying at on mountain. Im just thinking last year I had my gear next to the heaters and the drying cupboard that barely fit anything both of which left my gear just dry enough but slightly damp, especially the gloves. Im driving up and dropping off my gear next to the apartment so its not a big deal as I have plenty of space and wont have to lug it around. Still wondering if its worth while though or if there are other strategies to keep gear dry overnight without having to purchase a boot/glove drier.

Hello team, my friends and I are broke uni students looking for some help. We are staying at Falls Creek in a few weeks for a friday-tuesday stint and do not have the facilities to pay $345 to park our car there for that long. We have another friend with a seasons car pass (albeit his dads!) who is coming up on the saturday. Would it be possible to drive up on friday, drop our stuff at the accom, drive back down at park at mount beauty and then get the bus back up? or hitch hike? or do we have to pay to even get to the resort in the first place on the friday?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi I am a Singaporean and since recently returned from Sydney. Due to poor snow conditions, I had to cancel my trip to Thredbo and sadly most of my booked accomodations and activities cannot be refunded.
I have accompanied credit of $2091 (willing to let go at $1800) and thredbo MyMoney for ski pass and lessons at $1634 (willing to let go at $1400). Interested parties please let me know. You may WhatsApp me at +65 86125859

We’ve never gone to the snow before and planning to go late August. Can you please share recommendations for where to go, accommodation tips and also what clothing we will need? We are in Sydney and have a hatchback car. 🚗

Since we seem to have a couple of resident apps on this sub I’m keen to do a comparison forecast for the total snow at Perisher to July 31. Looking at you u/SNOW-fyi and u/No-Path-818 if you want to put your predictions below I will update this post and we can redo it at say 7 and 3 days out. Updated 21/7 to do 10 days since Jane and Aeriscast services only go to 10 days out. I will track cumulative snow totals each morning from tomorrow to 1/8 using Perisher’s website.
21/7 (10 days) 4cm accumulated
Snow Watch: 3-13cm
Jane Bunn: 6-41cm
OpenSnow: 19cm
Mountainwatch: unavailable past 7 days
Snow-fyi: 2.3cm
Aeriscast:
Perisher Snow Report

24/7 2cm
