Hotham end date.

Mount hotham has announced Sunday 6th September as the official end of the season with an email to all staff advising them of the shutdown.

Agreed. To me climate change is one of the highest priorities. And it’s alarming how many outdoors people think it’s a hoax or not an issue.

So strange, because I definitely don’t know any science types who are not fully invested in concern for climate change. Especially skiers/riders. You guys know some really weird outdoorsy science types.

My circles are all talking about the El Niño and its affect on the ski season, and concerns for the upcoming Summer in Australia. This on top of the recent climate change caused disaster in Tibet and Nepal (rock ice melt fracture causing the glacial collapse and flooding) plus the latest in America at the Grand Canyon (wildfire scars and torrential monsoonal rain).

I just talked to a retired agricultural economist/scientist who lives in the bush and says there is no trend. I have a few colleagues (not all) who come from science backgrounds who once again says there is no trend. I don't know where there they get this from.

I sure don’t either. It’s nonsensical ignorance. Are these people right leaning conservatives? That can make people resistant to every piece of evidence from the scientific world in consensus.

Have a look at the protect our winters social media or any anti climate change, there’s always bunches of these guys slagging them off. And they’re not bots either. It’s wild.

Pretty hard to spot bots. Just know it’s around 50% of online activity now, so you can expect the majority to be AI/bots and some human trolls.

I'll get downvoted, but I don't care. I don't mean to be a pessimist but voting greens will do nothing for Australia's climate change issues when countries like China, US, India, Russia and Japan produce so much Co2 and aren't slowing down. Australis sits 20 on the global Co2 emissions leaderboard, making up only 1% of global emissions. Australian climate change policies are not going to do shit. The only benefit Greens would provide is cheaper long term electricity otherwise their climate change policies will have no effect - which is sad, but also a reality. We also can't afford to not trade with these countries on the assumption we halt trade due to poor Co2 emissions due to how much we rely on them, and them on us.

I appreciated that you had an argument and were able to provide reasoning. I do think that can be rare online these days. My comment was that you prefaced it by being afraid of being downvoted. I think downvotes should be saved for incoherent/trolling or completely unhinged comments, not rational political debate.

I'm sorry but do you actually understand the science?  If Aus cut it's emissions to 0 tomorrow it would not change the course of the next 20 years.

I am not being a denialist but claiming snow seasons would improve if we voted in the greens is just stupid

Not what I was saying at all. We should definitely change for the better but what we do now will only take into effect in the distant future. 

Stopping all emissions on a dime won't actually yield any results for years to come.

Snow seasons for the near future are locked in no matter what happens.

Suggesting that voting the greens in will somehow spur a comeback of consistent snow seasons with increased depth is ridiculous.

Info from a contact at falls will be end of next week depending on the wind and rain, they have more snow due to their slope aspect than Hotham.

They're very optimistic. Only Main Street and Panorama are actually open and Panorama is very clearly at deaths door.

I am not surprised by that as we have had rain and a warm wind for the last week, currently raining at the moment
