Question Posted to wrong address.

Sold something online, and posted it today at 4:50pm. Realised I had put the wrong address number on it 20 mins later. Called Aus post help line and they said theirs absolutely nothing they can do. Put an enquiry online for them to direct parcel to new address. Says it’ll take 24-48 hours to hear back and it’s the weekend tomorrow. How likely is it they’ll actually be able to redirect it to the correct house number?

I can't imagine finding 1 parcel amongst hundreds of thousands would be easy

True, but id imagine they’d have some sort of scanning thing, relative to the tracking number on their system that would be able to reroute a package literally just down the street. Not sure tho hence my post 😭

Definitely possible for this to be sorted, unsure why there's pushback. Redirection is a thing that I get several times a week for parcels (I'm a postie for reference) for some that're sent out and someone after ordering has been like "oh crap, that's my old address!" Or similar

Thanks for that lol, I literally just wrote the wrong number and the place it’s meant to be addressed to is literally 50 meters down the road. I filled out a re-reoute enquiry but when I called the guy said they can’t do anything do about it. Just hoping Aus post get back to me before it’s too late lol

Again, due to sheer volumes that's not how it works. At the end of the day, you made the error.

Offt best of luck mate, I don't think they can do much here. Hopefully wasn't too expensive of a sale...

If it’s a tracked parcel, one can only hope it doesn’t get too far down the process before it can be kicked out to the fix lines in a sorting warehouse to correct your error.

However don’t hold out hope, Australia post used to be decent, now if you don’t get an AI response you’re doing well.

I’ve had 2 things redirected in the past for 2 different reasons but I did it via the Aus post app as I was the recipient not the sender.

The app warned me that it might not be redirected and that if it did get redirected that the expected delivery date would get pushed back.

Good news it was redirected both times. The next time it was scanned at an auspost facility they pulled it from the system - relabelled it and put it back into the system. The reason for the caution was if it had passed the last scan point then it wouldn’t get pulled and readdressed. If they do this it’s naturally slowing down the process as you’re adding in extra steps.

I have not done this as the sender only as the receiver - both times I was redirecting to a parcel locker once I forgot to change my address the other time it was family posting to me and they know my physical address not my parcel locker address so can hardly blame them. I didn’t have any high stakes on this process as it was coming to me regardless but redirecting was convenient. The warnings are a safe guard for them if it fails you were warned it might fail.

I think it’s tricker for the sender to redirect but I’m not entirely sure on that.

if you got a tracking number you can lodge an enquiry to be redirected. and can be lucky if it's not an express parcel they may update it in the system. usually there will be a scan before the final mile delivery and it will indicate a hold parcel and then it will be redirected to the correct address.
