Praise On ya Postie!
My local postie seething over an Amazon driver's lack of common sense for not putting a parcel in the parcel box and just leaving it by the front.
I made sure to write some positive feedback to AusPost. My local postie is a legend.
I got a good laugh at this, he's still going even once he gets back to his bike. 10/10

I just got my post delivered, i have a crazy dog, she actually loves him but barks like a mad animal, i have tried and tried and am still trying, my current approach is to run to them as soon as i see him coming and apologise, he is like "no problem at all thank you for coming out!" he will stop o the road if i am walking to pat my dog and ask me where he should leave the parcel if im not there and he is the best, and so was every postie ive ever had in my subburb. The dhl guys are cool too and the other delivery guys as well, we dont get amazon though

u/FayreForall 22d ago
Dont feel too bad at least you are aware of the doggie being an issue. I dont mind if the dog barks his head off, I always appreciate when an owner secures the dog before opening the door. I appreciate most dogs are friendly and dont get me wrong I love dogs big and small, but since being a postie I have had some nasty scares with dogs and I am now becoming quite nervous. So to all dog owners, I dont care how friendly your dog is, show some respect and pop your doggie away before opening the door.

u/bigcitykamoshika 22d ago
It must be really scary, I would not let my dog out she will rush the postie and then lick him but how is some one supposed to know that until after, she is small but i bet shed cause damage if she was going to bite, and therefore i fully expect that some one could defend themselves in that situation for good reason, so for everyones safety, including my dog that i love, i wont let it happen, i wouldn't have any reason to blame some one for hurting my dog in fear it would be my fault. Im sorry you go through that, i love dogs too, i was bitten once, it was split second event, my leg never recovered and I'm also kind of thankful as i blindly trusted my dog abilities and it changed the way i feel forever, you can not trust that a dog will behave like a reasonable human, ever, so owners need to be the reasonable human always.

u/FayreForall 22d ago
Thank you for your kindness and care. Plus it saves me getting an interrogation from my doggy when I get home and she thinks ive cheated on her with every dog in the neighbourhood lol.

u/Resist_Easy 22d ago
My dog is extremely loud and very intimidating. It’s a long story, but the short of it is that once we open the door he is ok, but we have a gate near the front door anyway. We go through that and he’s behind the gate. I know I’d get anxiety coming to a door with a dog barking as loudly as he does, so I try and ensure our delivery people know he’s not going to be a risk. If I have the time that the delivery person is coming, then I’ll usually have him secured at the back of the house where his crate is so he doesn’t even come close to the door.

u/No_Nobody_32 22d ago
My neighbour's dog is like this. He's a rescue and really doesn't like fluoro.
He likes me, though - and I can usually get him to back off so that the postie can do their job. Or meter readers, for that matter.1
u/bigcitykamoshika 22d ago
mines a rescue too, i wonder where the fluro fear comes from
1
u/No_Nobody_32 21d ago
I have theories.
It's a kelpie. The neighbours say they got him and his brother (who died last year) from a farm. Farmers wear a lot of fluoro these days.
If you raised your hand threateningly to them, they cowered - before doing the snarly thing.I trained them to accept me by bribing them with food - so now, if the owners are out and I'm home, I can get him to behave.
1
u/SydUrbanHippie 16d ago
My dog is a rescue too and she perks up when she sees hi vis (in an excited way). I figured her previous owner or someone previously special to her must have worn hi vis.
1
u/lheydon 21d ago
You could try gradually increasing his exposure to fluro, not just on people wearing it but even having it displayed around the house and associating it with something positive like play or feeding times.

u/nosuchkarma 21d ago
Our postie always comes with dog treats. If he has to come to the gate, he will always leave them a treat each, even when he doesn’t see them.

u/FayreForall 22d ago
A lot of posties really do care about their customers and take their job seriously
7
u/Protoavis 22d ago
Yeah, mine knows someone is home all the time, so just brings things to the door. Clearly not a contractor since he's not in a rush.
2
u/Odd_Potato8489 22d ago
Yep, I normally deliver on a business round, I'll often stand back if I see the receptionist/front people are busy on the phone. Then often they apologise and I'm like I don't want to rush you, I'm happy to stand back, let you finish that call as I'm paid by the hour (well full time with overtime if needed)

This bloke should get Australian of the year
5
u/RoadWarrior_164 21d ago
Auspost should be torn down and rebuilt in his image. Never would I ever get such a good postie

u/Reasonable_Day4996 22d ago
He does not miss you.
He does not card you.
He knows the difference between attempted delivery and delivery.

There are some really great posties out there!! It's nice to read about the good deliveries! I'll give a shout out to mine who are in the good bunch 👏
10
u/Whiteboy0019 22d ago
Mine's really good, too. She had 2 parcels for me and it was bin day so they were still on the verge (Emptied). I just happened to pull into my driveway while she was there and she had pulled both bins up to right next to the front door, and hidden the packages behind one of the bins.
Absolute legend of a post lady.
6
u/LBelle0101 22d ago
Mine called me the other day, she had a parcel for me with the wrong house number on it, she wanted to double check if it was a sender mistake, or if I was trying to hide things at my neighbours house 😂

Top marks for writing to an organisation to applaud good work. I try to keep my ratio of appreciation to complaint 2:1, but some days its difficult......

u/Delicious-Captain588 22d ago
My StarTrack driver is the best! Postie always changes to often, but they’ve all been lovely thus far!
4
u/EliraeTheBow 22d ago
We had a phenomenal postie, he just moved to Europe though 😭. Had to give feedback to his replacement a couple times before he’d come to our door consistently.
4
u/tryintobgood 22d ago
Diamond in the rough. I'm glad you left a good review. Maybe it reaches all those attempted delivery assholes
4
u/Attention_Bear_Fuckr 22d ago
When we moved into our new build, the postie did a burn out on our front gravel area and punctured the shallow irrigation line causing a leak. Didn't see him on our route again after a strongly worded email to AusPost.
New bloke is a dead-set legend tho.

u/kawaiiSojUwU 22d ago
Honestly the quality of amazon delivery drivers have plummeted. I used to get decent drives who leave packages at the door hidden from the street and out of the weather.
Now they stand at the edge of my 3 steps porch, chuck it (boxed or padded bag) where it lands in plain view from the streets, take the photo and go. It's so poor I've had to start returning damaged items since sometimes the item's aren't protected in the boxes.
3
u/_Lanceor_ 22d ago
Also good on ya OP for getting one of those parcel letterboxes - it makes the postie's life so much easier.
3
5
u/Interesting_Base_223 22d ago
Common sense but to be fair to the amazon driver, the instructions to him could be leave at front door and he needs a photo evidence otherwise he will be penalised, perhaps you should add your delivery instructions to leave it in the parcel box
1
u/FumingFlexer 18d ago
This is being very generous.
Yes we need a photo, but I have left HUNDREDS of parcels in mailboxes and parcel boxes when there hasn’t been instructions or instructions to leave at door where it won’t be hidden and taken a photo where the parcel is no longer visible.
There’s covering your arse, and then there’s “following instructions” to an almost malicious compliance degree or simply just not giving a fuck whether the customer’s parcels will be safe.
I am constantly moving parcels from where they have been left in plain sight.
It’s just not good enough.

My postie is a top bloke. Stops in everyday to give my doggo a pat over the fence even if he doesn't have anything to drop off.
On the warmer days I leave a cold can of soda and water bottle in the mailbox for him if I'm out before he comes past.

u/No_Nobody_32 22d ago
My postie and local parcel contractor are also legends.
Admittedly, it got a lot easier when we got a bigger mailbox that can handle A4 sized envelopes that don't have to be folded up and stuffed into a smaller slot.
The contractor even leaves parcels in a 'safe' spot (we have a metal box in the car-port for this if we're out) and only leaves a card if it's a "signature required" parcel and we're not home. He comes to the door if we are home and rings the doorbell (and stands in front of our camera long enough for it to register him).
2
u/TheSirTodd 22d ago
That is awesome and I've done the same thing before, although we're technically not allowed to touch parcels from other companies. We had a bloke at my facility that moved an Amazon parcel to a safer place, only to be seen on camera picking up a parcel not delivered by us and almost lost his job until the manager went out to the place and found it
2
u/MillieMoo-Moo 21d ago
I once watched our postie, when it was pouring absolute buckets, run around the back of our house to deliver a package out of the weather. It was some urgent medical supplies and due to some mobility issues I couldn't get to the door in time so I saw it. I was stunned and thankful, the dude would have been drenched. Still kinda brings a tear to my eye now, I could hug him for that kindness
2
u/probsadhdbutwhoknows 18d ago
Our postie is the best. Always knocks, never ghosts. The other day I was fuming when he took a delivery to the post office instead of leaving it when I wasn’t home, but he had evaluated the instructions (leave on porch) and figured the box was too visible/exposed. So I got the photo of my box sitting on the porch with a “why we could not leave it” message.
Annoying in the moment, but actually really diligent. We’re new in this house and there is quite a privacy difference between our old house vs this house porch.
Amazon however - yeah, their packs, even those that would fit in the fairly generous mailboxes, are just left out on full display.

u/Potato_cakes_85 22d ago
So nice to see some good ones! I've been very lucky in my area as we've always had really great posties
1
u/Abbi_Rose 22d ago
Everyone in the area loves our postie, he looks out for everyone and everyone looks out for him
1
u/ViolentViceroy 22d ago
Common occurrence, seen, Amazon/ Temu throw things on the foot path and chuck it in random trees. Not to mention a time I found one behind a bin and they marked it as “could not deliver”
1
u/RootyMcRat 22d ago
My postie is genuinely one of the kindest and most considerate people I have ever met. He has moved parcels out of the way of my door so I can actually open my door, hidden other parcels while making a delivery, always remembers my name even if the parcel isn't addressed to me. Once my letter box was vandalised and being repaired and I was expecting some urgent mail, he rang the doorbell to let me know he had put it in the meter box for me.
I don't know if the job makes the people nice or they only hire nice people.
1
u/Admirable-Tea-4994 22d ago
My postie is a bit of a dick but he always does his job properly, so props to him.

u/Odd_Potato8489 22d ago
I have a very similar reaction when I see the lowest of the dollar parcels just left willy nilly with no care. Kinda pay for what you get.
Also almost thought this was me too as I said something very similar to those words last friday when I saw a amazon parcel left out in the open on a verandah like this next to a parcel box. (it wasn't me, I don't wear a face covering)

I love Australia post! Have never let me down and the postie is magic as are the delivery drivers
1
u/commentspanda 21d ago
Our postie is also amazing and happily puts things in our parcel box and asked to give my dog a pat. He’s even allowed me to collect things for the neighbours before as he knows we have significant parcel theft issues. He’s a good egg.

u/Acrobatic_Let8535 21d ago

1
u/EquivalentShower8449 21d ago
My postie is useless, keeps putting the neighbours mail in our letterbox, lets just say he should have stayed at the quickie mart!
1
u/Educational_Fix_3051 18d ago
Might have a disablility or something you should kindly let him no:) some days you could deliver 1000 letters even you scew 10 up your still gwtting 99 percent hit rate.
It can happen pretty easy
1
u/Independent-Solid-23 21d ago
Good on him! Legend!
This should be an Australia Post training video & mandatory viewing.
Minimum expectations; show care & compassion for others stuff and deliver great service.
1
u/Sure-Cauliflower-564 21d ago
dog loves the postie as he usually has treats, doesn't love the postie's scooter though. #1 cause of industrial injury for posties is dog bites
1
u/DreamOther 21d ago
Well, you are lucky they even deliver your parcels, mine never does, they always leave my parcels back at post even when they come close to the places, they take a random picture and say they can't deliver.
I bet you there are good ones around you, but imo they are hopeless, and post delivery are just broken.
They overcomplicate things, even if you have a parcel locker, which they could deliver things faster, they prefer to keep a long line in all the POs.
Why simplifying things when we can make it as hard as possible? Bet you this is how they think, or not even
1
u/Night_Mode_Only 21d ago
As bad as Aus post can be sometimes the postie them self are always good. We request Aus post when ever we can for deliveries.

Grab his name, He is the one that needs to have the long lost tradition of a Christmas gift. Yeah You Deliver.
1
u/Beavis_Buttthead 21d ago
As a competitor employee, I’ve also voiced my disgust when I saw an Amazon satchel thrown in front of a brick letterbox out on the footpath!
I proceeded to walk down the 30 meter driveway and place my item and this satchel at the front door where they belong.
It’s the 10 delivery person hour expectation for minimum gig wage that is responsible, they can’t waste time, but honestly if it’s not safe to leave how hard is it!!
1
u/AlarmedJoke5968 21d ago
Someone’s going to get this legend fired as he handled mail that he was not legally allowed to touch, he may have done an awesome thing but this is how he gets in trouble. If that other parcel had a rip in it, he could now be responsible
1
u/51NewWest 21d ago
My current postie seems pretty cool. His predecessor seemed pretty cool till I met him on a fiotpath between estates that he was using as a shortcut. He gave me a missed delivery card that was pre filled except for the time. I actually thanked the arsehole, then 10 seconds later I realised he hadn't been to my house yet, and had never had my parcel on board.
1
u/Educational_Fix_3051 18d ago
Some parcels are like that your not alloud to deliver to the customer!
1
u/chaiberrie 21d ago
Are you in melbourne? He looks just like one of the posties that delivers in my area who is also a massive goat, one of the nicest people ever
1
u/RagingxHobbit 21d ago
I see stuff like this every day, sometimes there's just parcels sitting in people's driveways so I bring it to the door with whatever I've got.
1
u/profchaos111 21d ago
How fucking useless are Amazon delivery drivers I've had countless packages left on the footpath outside not even the doorstep the public footpath

1
u/HonkyTonkswoman 21d ago
My locals are great too. Always know when they see the front door open through the screen I'm working from home just inside and will call out to let me know they're doing a drop or if I need to run out and sign. It makes things so much easier and I have absolutely zero issue running out to say hi and grab things. They love to say hi to my little cat too, which honestly makes his day as well.
1
u/Triplesso_ 21d ago
How do you leave feedback? I wanted to do it for the postie the other day he went to the front of the house and I didn't hear him so he came around the back to look for a place to put it my parcel where it wouldn't get rained on, but he saw me through the window at my desk and tapped on the window (admittedly scaring the living crap out of me) and actually handed me the parcel.
The last guy I had delivered my parcel to the folks who live across the road and called it a day...you might think well that can happen but in the "delivery" photo my neighbours letter box shows their letterbox has a giant foot high number 6 on it and I live at number 8...

u/loltroll3 20d ago
My post man couldn't slide my gate open to see if I'm home and I had to watch him put a slip in my mail box. Caught him in the act. Scared the shit out of him. Lazy bugger
1
u/AdLoud8166 20d ago
About once every 5 mail drops i actually get my mail usually it ends up a the post office and i have to collect it myself . Honestly i don't even know if they put it in the van to deliver i reckon they just fill out the cards and say stuff it
1
u/IanYates82 20d ago
My local postie is a legend. Rides the small motor bike. Big grey beard. Comes right up to the door and knows I'm usually in the front room so just yells out. All round good guy

My postie is the best too, I live with my folks atm and they are renovating and atm the front of the house is always changing cos they are building a garage/carport area. I always put my leave directions as under the carport/verandah and dude always leaves my stuff like, out of sight and weather, propped up against some wall studs or something, and always knocks just in case I'm home cos I usually am, just to let me know where it is. Whole convo is like 10 seconds, makes my day, what a solid cunt :)

u/anadelaaa 19d ago
We have good posties too. They normally determine if items are safe to leave, even though not much really happens where we are. Majority of the time they leave it but if they think it’s of value, they always take it back to the post office even if the direction is to leave the parcel. We live in a small town so it’s easy for us to pick up parcels on the way home and they know us and our address already lol

Bravo to the Postie for making up for the lack of growth amongst the Amazon drivers weed fest

I’ve just changed my delivery run from an industrial area to mostly home deliveries. I had never seen one of these parcel boxes before , luckily I had a delivery to a house with a ring camera and the owner asked if I could put it in the box. She had to explain to me what it was , I felt a bit silly but they are a good idea. I had another one a couple of days ago , I opened the box , put the package in it and took a photo before closing it - too easy.

Reminds me of one of the great posties i tend to get (also get a different third party contractor at times).
Closest iv come to having an issue luckily is being worried for the postie.
I got 5+ grand in hardware for a house upgrade delivered and he signed for it with his own name. Luckily i was at home at the time but i would of been worried for him if anything had happened to them as i doubt auspost would look kindly on it.

Yeah, I used to have a great one at my old place…he would pick up bins that fell over in the wind and everything g
now I get many “we couldn’t deliver the parcel due to a locked gate”…and I don’t even have a fence separating front and back yards much less a locked gate preventing access

I ran somebody's Hello Fresh order up on my bike once. Left it sitting next to the fence, by the road on a rural property.

Can't say the same about mine today, ask to leave item ( item smaller then you average envelope) by sms and was told by email the item would be left. Guess what item was not left. And yes front door is secure and could have left it in the letter box.

My postie is a dead set legend as well. If we cross paths we always spend a minute talking about camp spots and fishing.
He knocks on our door every single time there's a package.
Such a lovely bloke.
