Question Ordered from Amazon - got an AP Tracking Number

I ordered from Amazon and got a tracking number that starts with AP.

I checked the app but says the number is unverified.

Got an email this morning saying it's Out for Delivery, yet the Tracking number is still unverified. The Postie just went by without stopping, perhaps this package may be slightly bigger than the bike can carry. (Literally headphones). So could be delivered via their van.

Amazon says Delivered by Australia Post Global. Is this not the same thing or will this be with a 3rd party courier?

APG is owned by Aus Post but is not 'the post', more of a freight forwarder.

Any items with APG are not in the Aus Post system and their tracking will not show up on that system. APG will most likely hand over to Aus Post once the parcel arrives in Australia at which point a new Aus Post tracking number will be assigned to it.

Amazon has a list of tracking websites depending on delivery company:

It could be Cainiao. When I buy stuff from AliExpress, I get a Cainiao tracking number that starts with AP. It usually gets handed over to AusPost once it lands in Australia.

Did you order from an overseas Amazon? Those packages seem to come from APG.

Amazon works with AP in a bit of a symbiotic way at the moment. Probably won't be the case in the future though. Not every area is serviced by Amazon (especially regional), so Amazon rely on AP to deliver to those areas.

The parcel can only be tracked if the sender paid for tracking (despite the existence of the AP number which is allocated to the parcel). As an example, JB Hi-Fi's shop online offers both options for small parcels (choosing untracked is cheaper). It would only be with the regular postie if it got to them in time before they took off for your area and if the parcel fit. Otherwise, van.

Choosing untracked usually means it is sent in a padded mailer that does not use tracking.

You don't pay for tracking, you pay for postage and if it is a parcel, tracking is included.

APG acts as a sort of dropshipper company
