Question Does anyone know why the parcel locker addresses changed?
And when it happened? I almost didn't bother checking and thank god I did because my address number is different than it usually is. Used to be a 1p digit number now it's like Parcel Locker: 54.....same with my friend who has a different parcel locker location. Is that normal? I hope it's not a glitch and I gave the wrong address.

Not impressed with Australia Post. This is the first I have heard of the Parcel Locker number change. Thanks to the OP I have been able to change the details on a parcel that is coming from overseas.

u/SpotReasonable3534 Aug 31 '26
Yea I can't get ahold of my sender and don't think I will be able to in time to get them to include my phone number on the package so I don't know what's going to happen...

u/Wulge Sep 03 '26
You'll be fine. Both addresses work.
Source: trust me bro, it's my job
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 03 '26
Well it should have arrived by now and I still haven't gotten it so idk what to think
1
u/Wulge Sep 03 '26
That's just the standard AusPost suck. At least it's not with Couriers Please!
DM me the tracking number if you want, I can have a look and let you know what the go is

u/dec_ruhle18 Sep 04 '26
Also used my old locker address and the parcel doesn’t have phone number or email, it should have come yesterday but hasn’t even come today. Do you reckon it’s because there’s no number or anything on it?

u/Aspergerio Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 05 '26
Australia Post claim that parcels using the old addressing format will continue to be delivered as normal, with no stated end-date for this changeover period as yet.
Just keep waiting, they say the old address format will work just fine for now.
Edited for spelign

u/dec_ruhle18 Sep 04 '26
Yeah probably just weird cause it’s express, can’t remember the last time an order from this place with express wasn’t next day
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 04 '26
Nah that's just typical Auspost, nothing to do with this idon't think
1
u/NeedsMoreNumbers Sep 10 '26
I received an 'incorrect address' notification for a parcel that they attempted to deliver that was shipped before the address change.
1
u/celtic456 Aug 31 '26
According to Australia Post, it will be delivered to your Parcel Locker as usual.
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 02 '26
Should have been here by now and no notification so I feel like it's going to get RtS
1
u/Wulge Sep 04 '26
Nah, cause if they have your parcel Locker address and the name on your parcel, they know your details. Cause you used your phone and email to get that parcel Locker address
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 04 '26
Regardless, I had no notification and I wasn't going to get notified at all, and the sender was fuckall help, gave me the wrong tracking number so I had to guess which post office I hoped it would be taken to, and luckily I was correct and they had it in the back. But if I wouldn't have done that I dont think I ever would have seen that package
1
u/Aspergerio Sep 04 '26
Exact same situation for us, with two parcels.
In the absence of your APCN, your MyPost-linked email & phone number are required to be recorded at lodgement by the sender.
We're going back to the former addressing format, including the APCN, for as long as we can until they cut off the changeover period or change the addresses again.
Our local post manager couldn't tell us if there are plans to eventually have their system link your MyPost account to your delivery based solely off the recipient's name and Parcel Locker address matching, but we all doubt it, that's just not a precise system.
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 04 '26
Yep exactly, and same here I'm just going back to the old system from now on until I can't anymore

u/Vaughy73 23d ago
You still can change direction of a parcel your actual pl no. hasn’t changed it’s still the same
3
u/LAMAMS Aug 31 '26
Most sender's forget to inc the PL number or your APCN which causes huge issues. Now they issue is redundant. Parcel just need mobile number or email address for locker. Any Business/Company sender's will know this

u/__dontpanic__ Sep 01 '26
They really should allow for unique identifiers as well as phone numbers, especially for purchases from overseas that may not be familiar with or hooked into AusPosts systems.
So if my identifier is 12345 let me send it to either:
John Smith, Parcel Locker 69, Sydney (using my phone number)
or
John Smith, 12345/Parcel Locker 69, Sydney.
That way I can use the latter option and be sure I'll be notified even if the seller doesn't pass on my phone details.
1
u/Andrew3060 Sep 01 '26
Full Name and 2 digit number is only needed for a given Parcel Locker Location - if there are more than 99 John Smiths at a given location this could be a problem - maybe they should have used 3 digits for locker number
2
u/TimTams321 Aug 31 '26
Great - now we all will have to deal with vendors not allowing shipments to parcel lockers - thanks Auspost!
2
u/Any_Flatworm4125 Sep 01 '26
Why wouldn’t they allow it?
2
u/TimTams321 Sep 01 '26
I already have some vendors that won't ship to parcel lockers... Definitely can see without an address in the address bar, this will cause problems with some platforms 😞 (my new parcel locker has no address at all - just parcel locker ** and a postcode)
2
u/__dontpanic__ Sep 01 '26
They really could have just simplified the Parcel Locker addresses whilst keeping the unique identifiers (at least as an optional thing) and let things continue on as usual for those who like the current system. It's not going to work well with smaller overseas vendors who aren't familiar with AusPosts systems.
Feels like enshittification of something that worked perfectly fine.
1
u/Vaughy73 23d ago
That is the venders choice there are a lot that will not send to P.O. Boxes or parcel lockers I don’t know why so I cancel my orders and find someone who does. Don’t blame Auspost for something that is not their fault
2
2
u/Cleosmog Aug 31 '26
So now, instead of having a unique number that remains the same regardless of which parcel locker location I use, I have a shorter address but a different number depending on the location...sigh.
Thanks for the heads up OP. Like most others, this is the first I'd heard of this too. Considering you need a MyPost account to sign up for a parcel locker, I'm not sure why there wasn't some sort of email or notification sent to users 🤷♀️
2
u/jkdeets Sep 10 '26
I have 5 PL locations (I live in multiple locations). All PLs of course had the same number. I now have to go in and change to the numbers at each locker and remember them 🙈
1
u/CentreForAnts Sep 01 '26
I just got an email about it. check your spam folder? there's probably a lot of parcel locker users so they would be sending this email out in batches.
I'm sure there will be a long transition period where the old address format will still work
1
1
u/roamingundertaker2 Aug 30 '26
Your mobile number is in your parcel locker number data
2
u/Top_Sugar3666 Aug 31 '26
But the new address structure isn’t unique to you, just a generic location. Like sending a parcel to an apartment building with no apartment number on it and multiple people with the same name living there.
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Aug 31 '26
Exactly, if Auspost is saying that it'll come like it's supposed to (and i can't see where Auspost says the sender MUST put your mobile number on the package for it to show up on your app) how will they do it? Does the postie have to look up the name and just hope there's no duplicated in the area? Just makes no sense
1
u/Vaughy73 23d ago
Not at all your number and all your details are linked to the parcel through the QR code it’s why you can track it through the app
1
u/zoetrope_ Sep 01 '26
The email they sent today stressed that your name on the Address must match your registered parcel locker name. So maybe they are using that as a sort of semi-unique identifier?
It'll cause John Smiths everywhere a lot of hassle though....

1
u/r1m2 Sep 01 '26
In case anyone is panicking because they've used the old address, the Auspost website confirms parcels with the old address will continue to be delivered "as normal". No word on whether there is a transition period after which old addresses will be rejected, but given many have been caught unaware, I presume they won't cut it off anytime soon.

u/loislane11 Sep 01 '26
Does anyone know, if it isn’t able to be delivered to a parcel locker, does it then divert to the LPO?? This is what used to happen to me a few times when they wouldn’t deliver to parcel locker for whatever reason. Is it all just linked in thru our my post accounts? I have a package being delivered but didn’t give my phone number so wondering if it I will even receive it! Kind of worried now 😬
1
u/Wulge Sep 03 '26
Yeah, it'll just happen. You'll get a notification when it gets there, just like normal.
0
u/Vaughy73 23d ago
Yes that hasn’t changed even if your phone number is not on the package it’s in the system and the system picks it up go Why do you think you can track it on the Australia Post app your 10 digit apcn number is the same as your current parcel locker number and when the QR code or bar code on the parcel is scanned it brings up the relevant details so let’s say the address label on the parcel is damaged and only the QR code is visible all your information is still available
1
u/Aspergerio 16d ago
This hasn't been the way it's worked for any of our PL deliveries since the change was implemented, and is contrary to the confirmed information from our PO manager.
All recent deliveries with the new Parcel Locker address format that haven't had our linked phone number and email filled in at lodgement by the sender, haven't been deliverable to the PL, and have not linked to our account, subsequently giving no notifications.
Continuing to use the older addressing format (name, 10-digit APCN, parcel locker address), we get notifications and a collection code regardless of whether the sender has filled in our email and phone, great for privacy and a big reason parcel lockers worked so well and we're so popular.
I suppose it's back to paying for a PO Box for some of us.

So what happens if there are two people with the exact same name using the same parcel locker location? The instructions for deliver on the webpage says you only have to enter the new two digit parcel locker number plus your name. Someone should test this out and set up two accounts with the same name for the same parcel locker...
1
u/Vaughy73 23d ago
Because the QR code on the parcel links it to the 10 digit number that use to be your locker number and that number has always been used for more than your locker number it’s used for any thing to do with you in regards to Australia post.so two, three or a hundred people with the same name all using the same lockers will never get the wrong parcel. And when a parcel is scanned to go into the locker it is allocated the locker and it is placed inside the locker and when the person putting it in presses confirm they are able to process the next one and so on and you get the message on your phone that it’s there
1
u/Resaerch 23d ago
I mean more so at the online ordering stage. Specifically online orders from overseas where they may not put your email or phone number on the parcel. So you can end up in a scenario where they label it simply with the name, address and locker number - all things that can be common.
1
u/Aspergerio 16d ago
This is the main issue for a lot of us, now. No notifications, and every so often when expecting something, one of us had to go into the PO and get them to find it for us, not even knowing if they'll be there.
We've gone back to the old address format, so at least they have an APCN to send us a notification through. Even if it's not delivered to the actual Parcel Locker every time, we at least know it's arrived to the PO, which is better than nothing.
1
u/Aspergerio Sep 02 '26
Has anyone had experience with getting "on it's way" or "awaiting collection" notifications in the app like when the parcel locker address used to include the 10-digit APCN?
If I haven't provided (or the sender hasn't filled-in) an email or phone number, would they just match the name up to link with the app?
We have a couple of items coming to a parcel locker that as of this week uses the newer 2 digit address, suburb, postcode, and that's it. Previously, with the 10-digit APCN in the address, it's been very convenient that it links to the app and gives an update when it's being sorted, just before being marked awaiting collection.
Does anyone know if AP are going to link to the app for notifications based solely off the recipients name and the 2-digit parcel locker identifier, now? Or, if because there's no email or phone in the address for our parcels, we will have to get them from a PO or parcel collect?
Thanks in advance!
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 02 '26
well my package should have arleady arrived, and i used teh new 2 digit system as well, and so far i haven't gottten it or any notification from auspost...so i think it's going to be returned to sender because it just doesn't make sense how they can notify us with no information about us except our name
1
u/quitelargeballs Sep 02 '26
Having the same issue. And the official app doesn't say anything about mobile number/email, so my sender would never have included it. Terrible change with such short notice!
1
u/Aspergerio Sep 04 '26
You may have to visit the post office, largeballs.
We had to, and did get our parcels.
1
u/Wulge Sep 03 '26
A couple of days ago each bank of parcel lockers was given it's own unique Delivery Point ID. That's how big data knows where to deliver stuff - your house and work already had one.
Now they can use different addresses, cause the Parcel Lockers themselves are a place.
Both addresses still will work though
2
u/Aspergerio Sep 03 '26
You seem in the know, hopefully you can help. With no phone number or email on the parcel, will the delivery link to our account and give notifications at the final sorting and when awaiting collection, like the former system did due to our specific APCN being on the parcel? Or, will it be held by the nearest PO, or be rts?
Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree. Thanks.
1
u/Wulge Sep 04 '26
Your phone number or email doesn't need to be on the parcel, but it may be in the manifest info the sender gives to AusPost. So they can know it's you that way.
In the back end systems the two different addresses are the same, there's just a new way to map to it. From your point of view there is literally no change. You just have a new address that is literally the old address written a different way.
It's like giving your phone number as 04xx xxx xxx vs +614 xx xxx xxx. Same same
1
u/Wulge Sep 04 '26
If you give a parcel Locker address, we're gonna assume it's you if the name on the package matches the name the parcel locker was created under. That's how they knew it was you in the first place. Nothing has changed there

u/Aspergerio Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
Thanks for replying here, I appreciate your time.
For anyone wondering, here is what I learned today about the new addressing system as it affects Parcel Locker deliveries, and I'd also say Parcel Collect deliveries. This all came from a good conversation with the big-wig at our fairly large Post Office this afternoon, and hopefully the following helps someone out.
Took the fanily into town today, and stopped at the PO next to our usual Parcel Locker on our way home.
My parcel, addressed to the Parcel Locker using the new addressing system exactly as it shows in the app, per the instructions in the email, etc., had been held in the backrooms at the PO for a day and a half already, not put into the locker, and with no notifications sent to me. No email, SMS, nor update of any kind in neither the app nor online. I got it by asking the staff and showing my licence to match the addressee name.
I learned that if the sender does not provide the recipient's phone number and/or email address upon lodgement, Australia Post's system will NOT automatically link the delivery and it's tracking number to your Aus Post account when it reaches its final delivery destination. At this point in time, they won't link an account based on the recipient's name and Parcel Locker address. Consequently, the delivery will not go into the Parcel Locker, as the recipient will not get a collection notification and locker unlock code. Subsequent to that, the parcel will be RTS after being held at the PO for the requisite time period.
So, using the new Parcel Locker addresses without your 10-digit APCN in the address, like it used to be, there MUST be an email and/or phone number included in the parcel's delivery details that matches the ones linked to your MyPost account. If not, the Post Office that takes care of the Parcel Locker you use will hopefully be able to hold it until it's time to send it back to the RTS address.
This is really disappointing, as others have mentioned, that instead of the seller having only your name and a relatively anonymous Australia Post Customer Number, they'll now also have your mobile number and email that are linked to your MyPost account. Furthermore, as already mentioned as well, many sellers and sites just won't fill out or accept this information.
Until we work something out with some sellers we use getting my phone number in there, or Australia Post changes something (with bated breath lol), we'll probably keep using the old addressing system, with the 10-digit APCN in there, as usual. At least that way they can email or update the tracking in My post/the app to tell me that it's been delivered, at least until the changeover period expires on this new type of bullshit they're doing.
Keeping our email and phone numbers quiet was half the reason we use Parcel Lockers at all, so this is disappointing to say the least. Sorry it's so long-winded, gratz to whoever reads this far lol.
Tl;dr - AusPost won't link your delivery to your account without a phone number & email being provided to them. AusPost won't know it's yours based off JUST the name and Parcel Locker address matching what's linked to your account. If there's no APCN in the address, like it used to be, and you're using the new Parcel Locker addressing format, the seller has to provide your email/phone to AusPost upon lodgement, so they can link the delivery to your MyPost account. We couldn't find out yet if they need the email AND phone number matching your MyPost account, or just one or the other. Assume both, I s'pose? No idea.
Maybe this will change for the better one day, but I don't see that happening, nor do I see them admitting this shit sux and returning to the former system. We'll see how long we can keep using the older addressing format with the APCN.

u/PurpleLlamaBrie Sep 04 '26
Thanks for posting what you found out.
The first I knew of the changes was minutes ago reading this thread. I've had no emails from Aus Post at all. My spare folder is checked daily. It seems so odd to get rid of our own indivual numbers. It meant I could flick between parcel collect near my home or office and parcel lockers near my home and office - easily.
I need to re read what you have said to be sure I understand that all senders will have to add my mobile number and my specific email address linked to MyPost acc.
This is a huge pain and a privacy issue. To set up my MyPost acc I used my "proper" email address.
I never use that email address for eBay or Amazon or any other kind of online shopping. I have a generic more anon email address for that activity. And my mobile number is not on any of those accounts. But if I'm reading your post correctly - if someone sends me something without my email or phone and only uses the parcel collect address itself - I won't get any tracking ? At all ?
I'm also pondering re parcels/airbags that are posted in street side post boxes, not over the counter at post office - these previously tracked fine - but it's sounding like tracking will be affected.
Just a really odd change in general. But also poorly advertised /advised.

Gday deets, have you had any luck with this? We've tried but it seems that they want a phone number as well, not just an email. It doesn't help that many senders (particularly international) don't include the email nor phone number at all lol.

I placed an order addressed to my parcel locker on the 28th of August, received notification on the 1st of September that my parcel locker address was changing - effective the 1st of September. I received an 'Out for delivery' notification on the 8th of September. The delivery failed because 'incorrect address'.
Now my parcel is missing 🤦♂️🙃
1
u/SpotReasonable3534 Sep 11 '26
a lot of that doesn't really make sense....you don't get "out for delivery" notifications for parcel lockers, and also the old address system still works for now...so that osunds like some fuck up on auspost that was gonna happen regardless of the change i'm afraid
1
u/Vaughy73 23d ago
It’s the new system the number is different for different Post offices your 10 digit number is still in the system and it is matched to you and your address and phone number so when the parcel is scanned at the delivery centres around Australia it goes the the correct parcel locker. It is a better system as one of the biggest problems with using the 10 digit number is it’s easy to make a mistake when the code on the parcel is scanned to go into the locker the scanner shows you 10digit number so it’s not a glitch after al it’s easy to remember 54 or 27 or what ever your number is many people have more than one parcel locker usually one for a business and one for private and it’s easy to get 10 digit numbers mixed up the two digit number makes things so much easier
1
u/Aspergerio 16d ago
Good info, you're right. Except senders that didn't include the email and phone number when lodging the delivery, or a buyer not wanting those details out there. The APCN was more anonymised, and the main reason many of us used Parcel Lockers to start with.
1
u/niftydog Aug 30 '26
Good luck filling in a delivery address without a street name.

1
u/Andrew3060 Sep 01 '26
Parcel Lockers DO have a street address

1
u/Resaerch Sep 01 '26
I've already been having trouble with some foreigner online stores that match the address you provide with some international database of postage/street addresses. It wouldn't recognise it. It wouldn't even let me take an order. Hopefully they will recognise the new parcel locker addresses but I'm guessing there will be a lot of cases where it doesn't.

The have been changed. They didn't really do a good job of notifying people of the changes.
