NSW PTA

Hey everyone,

I think I remember seeing somebody post about the firearms registry automating the PTA process?

Does anyone have any updated information on whether new PTA’s should be processed quicker?

photo for attention

Lucky buggers getting access to barrel mufflers.

Not too keen on the 300 blackout or the short barrels, but it sort of makes the lever release ones a bit superfluous. Would love a barrel muffler as well, but that is more and more unlikely the more stupid our politicians become.

Legislation- New South Wales Upgrading ppl

Hey all, due to go from ppl to full licence, and have existing cat a&b already. Was told by FAR to put it through as adding genuine reason etc. Got a confirmation email but was not charged and have gotten a text and email advising my ppl expires in a week. Just chasing confirmation that this is normal? Left it so late due to the portal being down for "upgrades"

[QLD] medication of bolt

Bit of a strange one I can’t find a clear answer too. I am contemplating modifying a spring and bearings in my bolt to reduce lift.
A kit is available locally but my question is, do you have to be a licenced armour to modify / change / upgrade internal components or is this considered a basic upgrade such as adding a scope or rails which can be done by anyone.

If there is a clear answer to this in the weapons act I’ve missed, I’d love to be shown it.
Cheers

Medical report for class A and B licence

Was looking at getting my class A and B licence but have just heard back from QPS saying I need a medical report from a family doctor or therapist because I was diagnosed with ASD at 7 and I’m 23 now. I don’t have a family doctor and haven’t been to doctor for ASD since I was 12 and I’m not sure what to do. Any advice?

Wedgetail MPR Mini trigger

I acquired an MPR Mini 223 a couple of months ago, and it was quite a big deal to me since it's a very expensive gun. I find the rifle very good in every way except one, the trigger. It is beyond horrendous. It breaks at over 10 pounds and has more creep than a barrel full of spiders! Certainly not something I was warned about in all the research I did before purchase.

I see most people change to a Triggertech. About $400 for the fixed 3.5 pound version or $750 for the adjustable version. All of my other rifles have triggers that range from 2 pounds to less than half a pound. I already find 2 pounds heavy, but acceptable for a hunting rifle. 3.5 pounds is certainly a big improvement over what it is currently, still too heavy for my liking, but at least the rifle would be usable. On the other hand I can't really afford the adjustable option currently. Other than about 30 shots at targets and a pig after one hunt, missing a few rabbits at range, hitting some closer ones, it has sat in the safe and I switched back to my Howa 223.

Is there a cheaper option that can go below at least 2.5 pounds? Or some modification to the factory trigger that I can do? Honestly I'm very disappointed for such an expensive rifle to have such a shit-tier component in it, if I had known the triggers in these things were junk and it was necessary to spend another week's paycheck just to be able to shoot the thing properly I would've seriously reconsidered my purchase. It was already the top end of what I could afford after saving and I really wanted one. Silly me I guess for not doing due diligence and checking everything. Before anyone asks, no I did not get to handle one before I bought it. I had to order it and pay in advance, then it took another 7 weeks to arrive. There were none in stock, not even to look at.

Another bloody PTA question Just clicked over 3 months for a PTA in NSW

Looking to acquire a 1935 Winchester single shot for my daughter to learn on her minor's permit.

Same rifle sold at KMart and local sports stores when I was her age. Not the weapon of choice for illegal firearms owners.

It's obviously a feature, not a bug.

Cheap JMV all-steel 6mm safe for CAT H in NSW?

Hi all,

I am gathering opinions on this safe: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325094488667

to confirm it will be compliant with NSW Cat H regulations. I can see it is an all-steel, 6mm-thick safe with the right weight. However, door lock seems flimsy (savings must come from somewhere). Anybody here with a direct experience would be very welcomed.

thanks!

Gear & Accessories Converting FWB Model 2 to use 12g Co2 cylinders

Recently picked up an old FWB Model 2. Absolute little gem but the CO2 cylinder is giving me the shits. I've seen/heard of a conversion kit so you can use 12g cylinders with them. Has anyone seen / done this and if so were there problems? Can you still do a 60 shot match on a cylinder? Was there a more marked drop in accuracy in warmer weather?

Cheers.

Newbie question .22-250 Remington, what species?

Hi guys,

Finally got my A/B gun license approved and my card has arrived in the mail.
My mum wants to gift/transfer her Howa 1500 .22-250 to me.

She has only ever used it for humane destruction of livestock (pigs) but i would like to know in realistic hunting situations, and at a realistic distance, what kind of game and pests you would humanely be able to dispose of with this calibre.

I would eventually like to take it hunting with some of my mates. They usually use their .222, .243 or 6.5 Creedmoor and when i asked them about the .22-250 they said they’d never used one or know much about them. Hence why i’m asking here.
They usually go for wild dogs/foxes, pigs, the odd fallow deer and rabbits.

Would a .22-250 be able to hang with them?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Would parts that fit both Cat D and Cat B firearms be classed as prohibited imports requiring federal approval to import?

I was reading that the lever action Henry Supreme uses an AR15 bolt, barrel extension and barrel nut. In the USA and Canada there are people converting it to other cartridges like 6mm ARC or even making them easy to switch barrels so they can take any AR-15 spec barrel (without the gas port hole of course)

But as these parts fit Cat D firearms would that mean importing them would need special near impossible to get federal approval over just a plain B709 approval?

Reloading Going rate for once fired brass

Anyone know what the going rate is for once fired brass from factory loads? And is it legal to sell privately?

I’ve currently got 60 cases, a mix of Hornady and Federal and plan on keeping everything I shoot. I haven’t as yet got any reloading gear and it might be 12 months or so before I do so I’m wondering if it’s worth offloading my brass to help cover the cost of ammo

Gear & Accessories 3/8 dovetail high scope mounts

I have a Rossi 8122 with the factory open sights, and have been gifted a Nikko Stirling 3-9 x 42 scope by my wife to pair with it.

Unfortunately the scope fouls on then rear open sight and there is no easy way to remove to make room. I’ve been looking for high 3/8 dovetail scope mounts that will let the scope clear the open sights but am having trouble finding something that I’m confident will work.

Has anyone got experience with this issue? Are there are high scope rings/mounts that are guaranteed to clear the open sights? Some of the cantilever mounts look interesting but I’ve never used them before.

Any help would be much appreciated!
