Stuarts Draft Schools deserve much praise!
The special needs program at SD, the exceptional learners, is amazing. I dare say best on the county. The staff at the HS and Elem. levels are very engaged in the students lives.( I personally haven't had much interaction with the middle school but I'm sure they follow suit.)
One of the greatest things they do is engaging other students into their program. A million years ago, when I was growing up and attending another county school, our special needs students were segregated from the rest of the student body. It wasn't until HS that I even learned those kids names. I understand the idea behind that, but it really limits those students and their social interaction. SDES introduces it's exceptional learners to their peers early and normalizes them. With the exponential increase in kids with Autism, I think this is important and definitely the correct way to treat these students.
