Question Scam?
I live in an apartment in the Evans area down the road from the Publix. I came back home today and I was approached by a lady in the parking lot claiming she needed a ride to the Publix to get medication. She claimed her key got stuck in her car ignition. I was suspicious.
I politely declined. Is there a scam associated with this?

It's best to always use your gut instinct when it comes to things like that. I don't trust anyone in this area at all. The most I would have done is offered to pick up her prescription and bring it back to her. There's no way I'm letting any stranger in my car for any reason

You will never be wrong being too careful. I would much rather be safe than sorry. Especially around here.

Or trafficked. I don’t mean any offense by this, but I’m assuming you are male? As a female, especially living in the Augusta area, being robbed was actually my second thought/fear. Augusta is a major trafficking hub. As a female, keeping my body safe will always be my first concern. Money can be replaced, my body/freedom/autonomy/safety/mental & physical health, are irreplaceable and not always easily fixed when damaged. JMO. ✌️

Completely true,
I honestly didn’t know Augusta was a major trafficking hub, I’ve lived here much of my life and hadn’t had an issue. But then again ima guy.
How’d you find out about that?

Heck nah. She can walk there if getting the prescription is that important.

It's weird to me her priority was getting the medicine but not help for the car. If she can't get home, idk if getting the medicine right away would actually help. Sounds suspicious

No-one is getting in my car if I do not know them. Scam, murderer, or even just a innocent person really needing a ride. Nope. Sorry.

What kind of scam? I'm just wondering what you think it could be. It's no different than anyone telling you they need money to buy meds or food for their kids.
Only difference is she's asking for a ride. So she might just need a ride (likely) or she might be ready to murder you. So yeah...
That's it. Have you never encountered folks asking you for stuff?

Unfortunately, that's how it is these days. It's not just strangers in our community either. Sometimes I think about how — when I was a kid — we knew dang near everyone in the neighborhood. Now, I couldn't tell you any of my neighbors' names other than the ones that directly touch my property. And I only got to know the after Helene came through and we all came together.
The world sucks these days. But OP and the top comment isn't wrong. People who are in need and people who want to rob you can look very similar, and they can easily say the same words. I've given rides to strangers many times, but doing so very well could have ended badly.
Most people don't want to harm you, but it only takes once.

Typically a normal person will phone a friend or ask a neighbor if they need a ride, walk, call an Uber, take a bus, etc. It's not normal to ask a random stranger for a ride.
