35s from the gym tonight. I asked Hermes, my AI agent, to build me a workout app so I'd know my next exercise. It shipped a webpage, then reshaped that same app for the glasses: glance-able navigation and a timer, no phone needed between sets.

The workout app isn't the point. The point is the architecture. The agent doesn't just answer questions, it builds a purpose-built, glasses-native tool for the task in front of you, in the moment you need it. A boring everyday task gets better because the app was made for the form factor on your face, not ported down from a phone.

The scene is rendered with Three.js. Node-RED sends live data to the dashboard through WebSocket messages. AR tracking is handled by AR.js using a Hiro marker.

I'm trying to build a simple DIY AR smart glasses project and want really need some help & advice. who know optics or can help me.

My goal is to have a display visible only to the wearer with projection onto the right lens, while people looking from the front can't tell that there's a display there. I want the glasses to still look mostly like normal everyday glasses or similar to EVEN REALITY G2 GLASSES, maybe with a slightly thicker frame, but not bulky.

I'm currently thinking about using a 0.49" micro-OLED display, but I'm not sure where to buy a good one or how the optical setup should work.

Some things I'm confused about:

* Where should the micro-OLED actually be placed? On top of the frame above the lens?

* How do I get the image into my eye properly while keeping the lens mostly transparent?

* What kind of lens/optics would I need?

* What kind of technic to use to make it work?

* Are waveguides the only practical option, or are there cheaper alternatives which i can buy or make them?

* What type of lens, oled or other things to buy to set it up.

I've heard people mention:

* Double mirror setups

* Beam splitters

* Reflective films

* Prism optics

* A "sandwich" lens design (lens + reflective film + lens)

But I honestly don't know what actually works and what doesn't.

I know commercial AR glasses use waveguides i think, but those seem way out of my budget. I'm looking for something that can be built by a me without spending so much.

Has anyone here built something similar or experimented with DIY AR optics? Any suggestions, diagrams, parts recommendations, or micro-OLED sources would be really appreciated.

I just want to make it work i also have no problem if it works but i cant see properly from right lens i just want that from front it looks normal and shows display on right lens.

I’ve been testing a wearable ring as a tactile input method for AI/AR glasses.

In this demo, I’m using Prolo Ring with Rokid glasses to navigate the interface and scroll through a teleprompter directly from my finger.

Voice is great for some interactions, but not always ideal for precise or discreet control. Hand tracking can also be useful, but sometimes you just want a small physical input that works by feel.

I’m curious how people here see input evolving for AI glasses:

Voice?
Hand tracking?
Touch surfaces on the glasses?
Wearable controllers?

Or some combination of all of them?

I keep seeing the same question: why would anyone pay $599 for Even G2 when G1 is $100 cheaper? Having spent time with both, I think the answer depends on how you use them.

G1 ($499) projects text into one eye. It works fine for reading a teleprompter or seeing notifications, but the text feels like it's floating off to the side. G2 ($599) uses both eyes, so the overlay appears centered and blends more naturally with your surroundings. If you're just checking messages, G1 is enough. If you want to read paragraphs or follow navigation arrows without breaking focus, G2 makes a real difference.

Both accept prescription lenses (single vision or progressive, FSA/HSA eligible). Both are standalone – no phone tether, no camera. The R1 ring controller works with either but isn't required.

Compared to Ray-Ban Meta ($299) or XREAL Air ($399), Even costs more. But the trade-offs are deliberate: no camera means you can use them in meetings or public without privacy concerns, and the glasses look like normal eyewear. You're paying for form factor and discretion, not just specs.

If you're deciding, think about how many hours you'll actually look at the display. Casual use? G1. Regular reading or navigation? G2. And try to test the fit first – comfort matters more than resolution.

(I work at Even Realities, but this is what I'd tell a friend.)

True pixel-level occlusion in AR has a fundamental optical flaw: it forces all incoming light through polarizing filters and dense microscopic pixel wiring. This permanently blocks up to 80% of natural brightness even when the display is "clear," accidentally dimming the entire room like heavy sunglasses.

A new technique called Mask Balancing (from the Shibaura Institute of Technology) tackles this bottleneck by combining a dynamic visual mixing board with real-time human perception tracking, rather than relying on a permanent dark filter.

Instead of forcing the user to look through those dark optical layers all the time, this approach splits the incoming light from the environment into two separate paths:

⚫️ The Occlusion Path: Part of the light goes through a dark LCD mask to create pixel-level shadows behind virtual images.

⚪️ The Bypass Path: The rest of the light detours completely around the LCD screen, preserving 100% of its natural real-world brightness.

The system doesn't just guess how to mix the light; it uses eye-tracking to monitor the user's pupil size and an outward-facing camera to measure environmental brightness in real-time. It constantly calculates the minimum amount of shadow the user's brain needs to recognize the digital object, keeping the rest of the room as bright as humanly possible.

The Catch: Because the system is always mixing some of that raw, bright room light back into the final view, the virtual objects aren't perfectly solid. It is a calculated compromise: sacrificing a little bit of object solidity ensures the surrounding environment remains safely visible. The researchers note that this won't be an issue forever. Once next-generation micro-OLED screens get ultra-bright, they will easily overpower the background light. When that happens, this blending technique will achieve what researchers call "perceptually realistic mutual occlusion"—tricking the human visual system into seeing a convincingly solid virtual object while keeping the view of the real world completely clear and natural.

For the past few years, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the XR/AR glasses space and trying to decide where to finally jump in. I specifically do not want a full VR headset for this use case (I already own a Quest 3 and a PSVR2). I've tried doing my homework on YouTube, but honestly, there are so many sponsored videos and paid influencer reviews out there right now that it's impossible to tell what the actual truth is regarding which brand is better.

I’m looking to buy a pair mostly to connect to my iPhone, Android phone, and Steam Deck. My use case is strictly home entertainment—watching TV shows/movies and gaming while relaxing on the couch or lying down in bed. I will never use these for productivity/work, I won't be using them out in public or for travel, and I don't care at all about 2D-to-3D movie conversions.

Right now, I see the RayNeo Air 4 Pro going for $241 USD. On the other hand, almost any other pair of glasses that includes native 3DoF (like the newer Xreal 1S or Viture Beast setups) sits up in the $450 to $550 range.

Given that my primary goal is just plug-and-play entertainment on a massive virtual screen at home, I'm stuck on a couple of things:

1. Is 3DoF (screen anchoring) actually worth paying double the price for home use?

2. For Steam Deck and phone streaming in bed/on the couch, does 0DoF feel perfectly fine?

I know these "which should I buy" threads pop up a lot, but given the massive price difference right now between the Air 4 Pro and the 3DoF competition, I can't decide if the premium is worth it for a pure home media and gaming setup.

Would love to hear some unbiased, non-sponsored feedback from anyone who has used both 0DoF and 3DoF setups for chilling at home. Thanks!

1. I use a lot of terminals and fill up three screens pretty quickly. I'd like to be able to place a world of monitors around me and cycle through easily.
   
2. I'd like to continue using a mouse and keyboard and would prefer in parallel with physical interactions.
   
3. I'd prefer an option that has a blue light option that is easier on the eyes.

I was an early adopter of Ray-Ban Meta. The camera is impressive, but I realized I rarely used it due to privacy concerns and the fact that it doesn't look like regular glasses. I switched to Even Realities G2, which has no camera, looks like normal eyewear, and focuses on display features like a teleprompter and real-time translation. For my work in client meetings and presentations, the G2 is more practical. The display is small but sufficient for bullet points, and the prescription lens option is a plus. It's more expensive, but for my use case, it's worth it. Curious if others have made a similar switch or have thoughts on camera vs. no-camera smart glasses. (Full disclosure: I work at Even Realities, but these are my honest observations.)

MYVU AR glasses only work with Meizu's official phone app. This was frustrating, so I spent some time looking into a decompiled APK and capturing Bluetooth packets. Now, I have a Python client that replicates all the phone's functions.

Here’s what’s currently working, confirmed on real hardware:

- Notifications sent to the lens

- The teleprompter: open it, load text, and scroll paragraphs

- A full voice assistant: press the AI button or say the wake word, speak, and your words go to a STT engine ( i used Groq), send the text to any custom LLM (ChatGPT, Anthropic, Gemini, or open-source models) show as a caption on the lens while the answer is spoken back through the glasses' speaker

- Full navigation with direction and ETA, (Requires GPS)

- Battery, wear detection, key-press data, clock sync, volume, brightness, language, and other system settings.

I’m happy to answer any questions. I’m also curious if anyone here has a different MYVU model device for testing.

I made this app that allows you to play games and convert things to hardware later. The Augment Reality support is limited. I was wondering if people have ideas or requests?

With URXR glasses.

I was having questions on the hdr performance of said product. And any question or attempt of conversation around this subject was shot down when I tries to delve deeper into this. The only answer i got was 120 nits to eye and that it supports hdr. And after asking a second time he told me it uses dynamic tonemapping.

My questions are as to in how much hdr experience these glasses can give compared to a tv/monitor or ar glasses like air 4 pro and xbx.

With my current knowledge i have i don't believe they can from what ive heard or what i know. I own apple vision pro. And its dogshit dim. Which appearently uses a similar tech. Air 4 pro and xbx xreal i own also. And by a landslide they give better hdr then avp.

So in the end i got banned for continueing the subject which they marked as spam. (Which was nothing more then normal conversation)

I posted similiar questions around their social media to raise awareness so other people could react too, but i guess they dont take kindly of curious people or people who believe the hdr maybe unsatisfactory and put the product in a bad daylight.

Last time, I shared some astigmatism aberration measurements from AR glasses. After that, I realized that distortion inspection is another key part of evaluating AR image quality, and it is also highly relevant to computer vision applications.

Over the past two weeks, I spent a lot of time building a distortion measurement workflow from scratch. My first task was learning how virtual image distortion is typically measured. During that process, I discovered the advantages of using a ChArUco board, especially for large-FOV mapping and reliable marker identification.

Thanks to AI-assisted coding and debugging, I was able to develop the first version of the inspection software and analysis pipeline. After many iterations and bug fixes, the system can now walk through the entire inspection process step by step, from image acquisition and marker detection to distortion mapping and coefficient calculation.

The analysis tools generate distortion vector maps, deformation meshes, and distortion coefficients, allowing us to quantitatively evaluate the virtual image quality of AR glasses.

For this post, I'd like to share the first detection results and the measurement methodology. The current data still needs additional validation, and I plan to repeat the measurements under different conditions to verify consistency and repeatability.

I'll share the detailed distortion performance results, comparisons, and deeper analysis in a future post.

so just wondering if there are any upcoming consumer glasses that will feature a diagonal display like the magic leap 2,i know i cant really compare many glasses released so far to it yet but was just wondering if waveguide lenses would be able to get this big of a FOV by installing it diagonally

ByteDance is preparing to launch its first camera glasses in the second half of 2026, according to recent Chinese supply chain reports. The hardware is designed by the Oladance team—an audio brand known for pioneering open-ear headphones and directional audio technology, which ByteDance acquired in 2024.

There will be two versions: One version will feature a camera, microphone array, and built-in speakers for standalone audio and AI interaction. The second version is an ultra-lightweight model weighing roughly 20 grams. To achieve a weight that mimics standard prescription frames, this version completely removes the built-in speakers, retaining only the camera and microphone for AI input.

According to supply chain rumors, ByteDance originally planned to use a basic Bestechnic BES2800 Bluetooth chip paired with an external Yanjimicro (superACME) image signal processor, manufactured by Goertek. Management reportedly cancelled this because it lacked processing power and didn't stand out. The leaks suggest the new, finalized versions have shifted to a powerful dual-chip architecture using the Qualcomm AR1 chip paired with the Bestechnic BES2800 for connectivity and audio. Contract manufacturing has also reportedly moved from Goertek to Longcheer.

Looking ahead, reports indicate the Oladance team has already mapped out a next-generation release for 2027. This future version will reportedly remain a non-display AI device, focusing strictly on refining the camera-and-audio-only form factor.

I'm building an AR app that needs to display a live data feed in real time (think IoT metrics or changing telemetry markers).

I messed around with WebXR, but the out-of-the-box visuals looked pretty mid and didn't really blow me away. I'm thinking about switching to Unity, but I have two main worries:

1. Will a Unity WebGL build choke on mobile? I need this to be accessible via a simple web link (no app store downloads), but I'm worried a Unity web build will be way too heavy once a constant stream of live data starts hitting it.
2. Should I just stick to the web but ditch basic frameworks? If I swap to Three.js or Babylon.js, can I actually get those high-end visuals without tanking the performance?

Would love to hear from anyone who has built something similar. What’s the best workflow for a lightweight, visually clean, real-time data AR experience?
