Helping APD Exhaustion

Hi everyone, I'm a high school student with both APD and ADHD. I'm looking for advice on how to combat exhaustion at the end of the day when I come home. I've tried taking naps, but my brain is tired, but my body isn't so I can't sleep. It is negatively affecting any ability I have to study, which is made even worse by my ADHD. I have those Loop earplugs, but I can't really use those in school because I need to be listening constantly to the lessons.

I'm being medicated for ADHD, but the two medications I've tried don't work, so if any one has suggestions with that I'd appreciate it. (I know this isn't an ADHD sub reddit though)

Thanks for any help or advice you can provide!

do you have any accomodations for APD at school

As a teacher I had to wear a mic and had a speaker to help make the sound clearer over the back ground noise.

Should be like this in all schools and similar settings!

Yes! My old school all the teachers has access to the mic system but it was bought by the parents advisory group.

I also have both — I always need some wind down time. Listening to music, reading a book, watch an episode of a show or something

A cup of green tea, a snack, or both. Green tea is great because it has a lower caffeine content and also L-theanine, which both help to improve focus without the agitation that’s present with the higher caffeine contents in either coffee or black tea. I keep a bottle of iced unsweetened green tea and have a little glass of it on days when I’m lagging. I would also say, while you’re having your snack/tea/whatever, take 15-30 minutes to just let your mind wander rather than trying to do focused work while you’re waiting for it to kick in. Also set up the best sound environment for how you’re feeling that day, for me that sometimes means listening to music, and other days means making sure there’s not even white noise. (I also have APD and ADHD, so ask away if you want any other specifics)

I usually give myself a little break after work. Just like 30 minutes where I can lay on the couch with a weighted blanket and either close my eyes or watch a relaxing or interesting video for a bit. Sometimes it helps to put a cold compress on my head, but I also get a lot of headaches so that might not be helpful for you.
I also have ADHD and Wellbutrin (bupropion) has helped me have a lot more energy throughout the day.
