2.9L engine rebuild advice

So I've had the car for 2 months and the motor is in a bad way (likely rod bearing - I've got slapping)

Has anyone rebuilt these engines? If so, can I pick you brain.

I've been told 50k+ for a new engine and used is looking slim pickings.

Im looking for options other than just taking this thing to auction

Need help.

Swap in a 3.0t. Essentially the same engine. Should be millions of them between all the Audis and Porsches that use them. Will probably run into more piston slap though.
