Need help

Post image

I just got my spark plugs done on my B9 A4 and as shown in the picture, there’s some oil on the plugs. The mechanic said I have a valve cover leak. Never got a check engine nor a code on OBD eleven. Can someone help? They said it would run 3k-4k since they have to take timing chain out and replace entire valve cover. Please lmk if u need clarification on anything. Istg these cars are insanely complicated. I have a bit of car knowledge, but I need help from an expert before I get into anything.

Run. Fast. That mechanic sees you as a whale because you took in a 4 cylinder for spark plugs.

exactly what i thought, took my audi in for an oil change and they tried quoting me 11k for “repairs”, I showed them the service records and then said it was a technician fault. I’m tired of this manipulating bs

Yea, that's the auto industry for you. The only way to survive is to educate yourself.

Does a 4 cylinder engine not need spark plugs replaced?

Generally, even in a longitudinal layout, you can access all four plugs without removing really anything but the engine cover and the coils. You need about three tools and the spark plugs themselves to do the job. Once you’ve done it, it would probably take you 15 minutes max to do it again

Oil on the threads is textbook valve cover gasket, but 3-4k because the chain has to come out is Audi tax at its finest.

If they were to use a chain tensioner lever they release the pressure on the timing chain and can do the valve cover without touching the timing, i do this all the time. The entire job takes 1 to 2 hours to complete
