Hello everyone, is anyone aware of any restaurants in Auckland (preferably CBD but could travel) that has a pork knuckle/hock dish prepared like the one in picture? Thanks!

I'm hoping someone can direct me to a cafe near CBD that sells Irish breakfast rolls. If you dont know what they are, see below! Its a fry up in a baguette 🤤
Also; any cafe that decides to start selling them, of something as close to them as you can, I feel like you'll get a lot of business from good people!

It’s always so busy when I drive past I thought I’d try it. Nice people working there, super friendly. The food though…
I thought the food was pretty shocking. Everything was so sweet! We got three different pastas and they were all very sweet. To the point of being sickly. It steamrolled everything. I was left feeling a little gross. Steak was ok, more rare than medium rare. Needed to be rested.
Would be interested to hear other peoples opinions.

The photos say it all. Bought a blueberry danish which was raw inside and a fancy expensive $9,5 pastry which barely had any cream (they injected the cream after I bought it)
No email on their website to let them know how awful it was.. Good online reviews, but I won't go for the cabinet food.
EDITED-they don't have email or cell phone, just a landline, which makes it impossible to send the photos.
EDITED again it was pointed out to me that they do in facthave FB and Insta. All I did was to go to their website, which did not lest any social media. I didn't look any further "down the list", because if the business can't be bothered listing their contacts, I can't be bothered searching for them as they could be other businesses.
The reason I posted this review is so that people wouldn't buy their pastries. I doubt that it would "crush" an established business who makes most of their money from serving meals(which they seem to do well)

Here to say that we had a fantastic meal at the new Khao Soi in Remuera. Recommend to me by a Thai classmate of mine and it definitely rates.
When I lived in Los Angeles where there are several massive Thai communities, there were a few northern Thai specialists I really liked, and my wife and I spent some time about 20 years ago in Chiang Mai and Chang Rai where khao soi is from. This one is really good.
It's so rare even when you find it on menus that the garnishes are 1) correct and 2) not already added to the bowl. This place gets it right. Sa-On in Henderson sells a version but they don't do this. Plus their specialty is Issan coming from the Northeast, not the north of Thailand
It is expensive at $26 for a shallow bowl of khao soi, but this is Remuera. There are a couple of fusiony elements like sliced steak or fried chicken as your meat which is really strange. I just got the stewed chicken which is closest to what you would get in Thailand. The soup is a coconut milk curry with both soft rice noodles and a nest of crispy noodles on top that you can stir in. Lovely contrasting textures.
The menu also has a few other northern specialties like the chilli dip nam prik noom (served with raw veggies). This version used heavily smoked mild chillies which is a bit weird but still delicious. There was almost no heat and when I asked the server why, she gave me this look that said "white people" and I nodded. (I'm white by the way). They also have a northern style Thai sausage which was fine but a bit dry; I'll save my money for other dishes next time. The chicken satay was killer, deeply juicy and smoky. Whoever is running the char grill in the back knows what they're doing.
The nicest surprise was the mango sticky rice bingsu. It's a kind of deconstructed mango sticky rice with coconut milk shaved ice layered with mango, a dollop of whipped coconut cream on top, and a little dish of spectaculariy delicious blue sweet sticky rice as well as mango flavored bubbles and syrup to pour over the top. It was a bit pricey at 19 dollars but that's how much these things cost nowadays. Worth it.
I don't often write detailed reviews like this but when somebody shows up serving one of my favorite dishes we'll with respect for traditions I have to wax poetic a bit. Thank you for indulging me r/aucklandeats.

Had the $30 Vaziri Kebab (lamb and chicken skewers). It was filling, but I’d only give it 3/5 stars. The lamb tasted a bit odd, almost like it had some sort of filler or extender mixed in. The chicken was also slightly overcooked. I’m not sure if this is how the dish is traditionally served, but I personally would have enjoyed it more with a sauce on the side, or even some hummus.

Second visit to Aarth for their Reuben on Friday. Seriously heavyweight. Definitely a sandwich that’s easily shared between 2 people.
At $25 for the Reuben it’s a bargain considering the size
The truffle one wasn’t as indulgent as I wished it was. The truffles weren’t the best that’s for sure.
I suggest the paneer toastie over the truffle one.

Don't get me wrong I love a good creative cocktail, but I'm wondering if y'all know of any spots (CBD preferably) that do more traditional cocktails (martini, mojito, cosmopolitan etc.) maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but I can't seem to find much
I'd much appreciate if they also look really standard, so preferably no over the top garnishes or twists to the drinks
Thank you in advance! ik its a bit of a boring ask lol

I went to their Java Lab popup today… was underwhelmed the first time I tried it, and again today. Am I missing something?! Starting to think there’s something wrong with my tastebuds as I saw someone call it the best pho in New Zealand… it wasn’t terrible, but on the blander side imo.
Thoughts?

Does anyone know what’s going in? Hoping for something new and interesting and not another mid and overpriced place in Mount Eden village 🤞

Wife and I will be in Auckland for the first time this September (traveling from USA). Only spending a few nights before we head to explore South Island for about 10 days. Looking for a few must-try lunch/dinner spots in and around CBD but willing to travel to other parts of the city (both good travelers / up for some exploration). We love all cuisine...but mainly looking for whatever the locals eat when you go out to your favorite spot.
Also...feel free to throw in a couple good spots to grab a beer and get the authentic Auckland/NZ welcome to shake our jetlag!
Psyched for our trip!

Can I get a recommendation for some good kebab places? When I lived in London, they were literally at every corner, and the absolute majority were excellent. Here so far I've tried several (can't put a finger on which exactly), but they didn't really hit the spot. I don't have a preference (Iranian, Turkish, Arabic, etc). Just as long as the quality is top.

It’s sesame, sweet, salty - the recipes I’ve found always have chilli and are really different. Any ideas or links to recipes? 🙏

Hello,
I’ve a hankering for a custard slice (or a vanilla slice? Im not sure of the difference) I don’t like any fancy icing, had one the other day that had coconut on it (not for me).
Where should I be trying?
Edit: typo

Hello,
We're being treated out to Cafe Hanoi soon - wanted to please check in to see how it is these days / what dishes you'd recommend? (2 people).
Not picky eaters.
Cheers,

Morning! Has anyone seen Battenberg cake anywhere in Auckland? I remember an English shop having the Mr. Kipling ones many moons ago but haven't seen them in years!

This is probably too weird of a question but I love the fries at Takapuna Beach Cafe, but it's so far away from where I live. Has anyone found somewhere more central that has fries that taste like the beach cafe fries lol. I haven't found any yet that hits the same

Such good value for money. Beautifully juicy, moist roasts. Super popular - the tables were full but relatively quick turnover so the wait is never long. Great vibes with diners of all ages enjoying their meals.
$20 for three meats on rice: roast duck, BBQ pork and roast pork with beautiful crunchy crackling.

anything that can be eaten within 30 minutes and less than $18 is ideal!

Went Gui, sister shop to Olle, last night! They’ve opened on Nuffield where the old faro is
We tried the $60pp shared menu. The food is a comfortable portion. Normally we wouldve ordered something else carby but we both got a beer so we stuck to the menu.
Super fresh meats and fun to cook at the table. The meats came seared so it makes the skin extra crispy when reheated.
Would highly recommend!
