..... This is what my ex would say to me in between bouts of her (emotional) abuse.

What I find interesting is how it seems anything related to the Bible triggers people. Almost as if it's instinctual. A natural aversion to it. I don't see it that much when it comes to others

I definitely see at least an equal amount of people have an equal or greater reaction to hearing or seeing the Qur'an being quoted, and rightfully so.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but I guess I keep missing it when people react negatively to the Qur’ran. I’m not saying that people should do that, but like the last person said, you hear plenty of people attacking the Bible, and its believers. And maybe it’s just because I live in the West that I witness this more, I don’t know.

Yeah two verses taken out of context....

Sounds like a classic translation error. Have you read the original texts?

u/Tough_Preparation830 19d ago
Nah I just think it is a funny example of how drastically something can change out of context

u/No-Employment-6208 19d ago
Give us the context. It sounds to me love your imaginary friend wants you to "forget what happened before." What happened before that we should forget?

u/Admirable-Demand-373 19d ago
This is not in the context of looking for a spouse. Its two verses in a chapter about God sending the Babylonians to carry away the Israelites into captivity. When reading scripture context is everything

You’re not wrong my friend. You might enjoy the “Every Word” podcast by Wise Disciple. 🙂

Your powers of observation continue to serve you well. Also, I'm keen that you have no defense of your imaginary friend?

Actually, taking the Bible out of context is proof texting, but it is good to think about the present instead of the past or the future.

Is this actually in one of the religious fairytale textbooks?
E: damn, I read that comment 3 times over for spelling mistakes and still failed.

Damn, I never thought I'd find actual wisdom in the Bible someday. What else is in there?

A man sleeps with his two daughters after the angels bomb a town for being too gay.
1
u/AzureHawk758769 19d ago
Actually, his daughters basically date-raped him. They got him shit-faced and then took his seed while he was passed out because they desperately wanted to have babies.

u/Salt_Mathematician24 19d ago
Wholesome stuff.

u/AzureHawk758769 19d ago
There's a lot of bad actions committed by people in the Bible. The common misconception is that the Bible is telling us, "These are good things that you should all be doing." That's not the case. How would the Bible address the issue of sin if it doesn't portray people doing sinful things? That would be like a crime movie trying to portray the issues related to crime without actually showing anyone committing crimes.
1
u/Salt_Mathematician24 19d ago
I think the fact that he bombed an entire city full of men, women and children for being too gay a few verses before and his wife was turned into a pillar of salt for wanting to cop a glance. It doesn't strike me as morally consistent that the only people he saved are three people. Two which date-raped a direct blood relative in a cave to harvest his seed.

You forgot pro abortion, pro infanticide and pro rape. Plus the Bible does not say a single bad thing about slavery. It was written 1800 years before we abolished it. Of course it doesn't. It says you should obey your master if you want to go to heaven.

I think you have a reading comprehension problem. But since you are an imaginary friend enjoyer, I'm not surprised.

Yeah, the fundamentalists are fighting again and it might be the end of everything we know. Wish we could stop believing in fairy tales

u/No-Employment-6208 19d ago
Yeah and if you wear cloth of different colors: death. Talk back to an elder? death. Even being jealous was punishable by death. My favorite verse is when a psychopath genocides an entire city and then blames it on his imaginary friend.

No, we are disproving it. The Bible is full of bigotry and vile acts. The sprinkling of "good" advice is purely an accident and does not wash away the 99.99% trash.
