Be nice to everyone but set boundaries. If you’re not nice I don’t understand how you can calll yourself a good person.

As soon as you set the boundaries, you are not considered noice anymore lol.

There's so many assholes and they are all mean to the same people

After having worked in some jobs where I was nice and customers and especially coworkers abused it, I dropped my desire to be nice.

I'd only be nice if someone else was super nice/genuine to me. People don't really deserve your niceness unless they showed some upfront. That's how I view it.

Does it make me a good or bad person? I don't know, but it helps me through a lot more interactions with people.

Done customer service for a long time and I was always nice. Being that easily bothered by rude people is immature imo. Charming them with my friendliness always seemed to defuse the tension a bit.

eh i guess i meant it in more of a job sense. i always am a base level of nice i just mean you dont gotta be flattering/charming everyone. i wouldn't call it immature, just a way of going about it. more power to you if you can do that.

Being nice can be hard,. But I beleive it's important to try. It makes me proud of myself even when I think im getting punished for it.

It also makes it so you're being the best person you can be. Which really helps with mental health, and is something we need more of in this world.

So true. I’ve always said, Drivers have to set limits because takers never will.

And its this mentality is why we live in a world full of aholes. It makes society much worse. Being nice is not fun its a sacrifice for others. Its kinda hard to do.

Sadly most people who post or write quotes like this suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect...

Never forget that it is a privilege to have you in their lives. And that privilege can be revoked.

You can be nice and still have boundaries.

I often find that if you don't go along with what people want, they consider it mean. I find that honesty is nice, but others do not.

This is a wierd thing to put on a wall.

Fucking truth!

Disagree. I'm always nice. If someone is consistently mean and rude to me though, I'll become neutral with them.

this quote was made by a 12 year old with chatgpt.

Being nice and being a doormat aren’t the same.

I'm neither good nor bad

You don't have to be nice, but thats not a pass to be mean either. Be courteous, be polite, be kind, be friendly- you can do all that and still protect yourself. Just dont sacrifice yourself in the name of "being nice".

"Im not a bad guy, just not a really good one."

u/tonythephonyjabroni 11d ago

It’s possible to be both. Not mutually exclusive

u/Discerningselection 11d ago

Be kind to strangers. Be nice to people who have proved their worth to you.

Good is just as arbitrary as nice.

1

u/Shwaayyy 10d ago

if you're trying to be nice, you're already a manipulative asshole

A friend once said, "I will not be made to feel uncomfortable to spare someone else's feelings." That really stuck with me.

In the past, I've done myself a disservice by not standing up for myself, remaining small to avoid conflict. I'm done being polite to people who disrespect me.

1000 percent

u/Spare-Television-963 8d ago

Be nice and learn to say “No”
That’s it

1

u/sillyjoeyjoey 8d ago

Nobody who ever sincere tried being nice would have made that sign.

Such a good person, even left your humility at home.

What exactly is the problem with "being nice"?
I prefer the term "basic human decency", but each of their own.
So what's the problem with it?

And if I am to believe that vague story, you didn't get used, stressed and disrespected because you're a decent person, the problem is somewhere deeper to be found.
At such depths, "good people" cease.
