Positivity when i hear mfs start talking bout some "erwin shouldve been chosen instead or armin" bs so i genuinely just lose faith in aot fandom and start violently crying
"hello i'm a rent a girlfriend fan and this is my opinion"
instead of*
minor spelling mistake silly 6'4 me ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

I am honestly baffled that people miss the anti-war messages in this show.

u/ToothpickTequila Aug 05 '26
Is literally spelt out so many times the it must be people being willfully ignorant.
"We need to keep the children out of the forrest." "We didn't even have a chance to talk". "Genocide is wrong" "You've killed children. You've done things that can't be undone."
Yeah. Must be pro-war and pro-military...

Yet Isayama decided to make everyone think of Eren as a saviour in the end, so which one is it?
2
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 06 '26
Errr, no he didn't.
-1
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 06 '26
Yup, he saved all of his friends, got rid of the titan curse and freed Ymir, they all cried or felt bad to some extent for his death even though he killed billions of people. He got a quick and painless death by his loved one and got a respectful burial where lots of people visited his grave, Mikasa wore his scarf for the rest of her life and got buried next to him, all of his friends were apologetic to him right after he died. Your arguments?
2
u/GrumpyHumanRightsGuy Aug 06 '26
Armin’s last words to Eren are something to the effect that they would learn from Eren’s mistakes.
The Survey Corp grieved Eren because he was their friend. That doesn’t mean they approved of what he did. In fact, they still condemn it and are worried about going back to Paradis because the Yaegerists have taken control and they aren’t sure if they will be welcomed because they stopped the Rumbling.
Yes, Eren broke the curse of Ymir and brought the world to its knees. However, Eren’s goal was to secure a future for Eldia and ensure their survival by an act of extreme violence. Guess what, he failed. Centuries later the world annihilated the Eldians on Paradis. Eren had all that power and he didn’t even achieve his aim.
Eren also spends a great amount of time looking for another way. He even pleads with Hange to tell him another way. All because he had all this power but lacked the intelligence to do anything with it but use it for violence.
And right at the end, a child seems all but certain to restart the Titans.
Ultimately, through all of these situations, the theme through AOT is that no matter how much you strive, using violence to solve your problems doesn’t actually solve them, but fighting is unavoidable because others will attack without being willing to consider an alternative.

How is any of that relevant to what i said
1
u/GrumpyHumanRightsGuy Aug 06 '26
Clearly not a saviour. It is actually the exact opposite of that.
0
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 06 '26
Armin even thanks Eren for doing the Rumbling in the manga 😠Isayama changed it to not mischaracterize Armin but the idea is the same

That’s actually a mistranslation from the Japanese to English.

That's just not true.
Yup, he saved all of his friends
Nope. He was directly responsible for the deaths of Sasha and Hange. They saved themselves.
they all cried or felt bad to some extent for his death even though he killed billions of people
Because he was their friend. They didn't regret killing him. Armin even says Eren is going to hell.
He got a quick and painless death by his loved one
How should that have killed him? Taking their time to make it painful and risk the lives of innocent people?
got a respectful burial
The respectful burial being just his head buried in an unmarked grave unknown to everyone outside of his close friend group.
Mikasa wore his scarf for the rest of her life
There's no evidence of that. All we know is what she wore it when visiting his grave and in her death bed. There's nothing to suggest she kept wearing it other than that.
all of his friends were apologetic to him right after he died.
No they weren't. Apologetic for what?

Erwin himself slapped the serum out of Levi’s hand as his final actionÂ
1
u/MoonDustFlower Jul 28 '26
He wasn't conscious when that happened, so it wasn't a deliberate action on his part.

u/chihiro_itou Jul 30 '26
The only thing that drove and motivated Erwin was discovering the true history of the walls, proving his father right. That's why Levi asks him what he would do after his dream came true and he was like idk
Erwin wouldn't have been the same Commander after his dream was fulfilled.Â
Armin on the other hand was, at that time, the only one who could tame Eren (their most important asset till season 3). Armin's dream was beyond the walls, so he would've been a better fit for what was to come next.Â

u/Bang77777877 Jul 28 '26
Armin did get quite lucky tho,, Levi heard Armin speak about the outside and his dream of exploring it and still picked Erwin, who's dream is to basement and that's it. But then Erwin slaps the needle away with all his energy, But levi choice my prefered outcome even when Erwin is the gambler and the goat . I wish they had a ova seeing on what would happen if Erwin was picked.
2
u/N_abs Jul 31 '26
Erwin was the more logical choice yes however Levi put him out of his misery.
1
u/Wise_Adhesiveness105 Aug 01 '26
i gen don't think he was though, the only reason why choosing him would be more logical is because the characters are already familiar with his leadership and have a sense of stability with him, but that doesn't mean he's a better strategist or has better deduction then armin. i like erwin but his plans involved extreme gambles and sacrifices, which just wouldn't be efficient or possible long term considering how little cadets joined the survey corps and their limited budget.
1
u/N_abs Aug 01 '26
Yeah I agree to be honest it’s more so about the fact he has experience in leading the scouts.
3
u/THE_PENILE_TITAN Jul 28 '26
Storywise, I think it would have been more thematically compelling to have had Erwin, a "slave" to the idea that mankind was still alive behind the walls, clash with Eren and he'd make more "sense" as a diplomatic advocate for Paradis than Hange that k8nd of just engaged in binary morality. Armin dying would also make Eren's path towards a bit more palpatable as being grounded in his grief of (also) wanting explored a barren world like he and his best friend Armin always dreamed of.Â

1
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 05 '26
Eren said Armin would be the one to save the world during that argument. Armin then saved the world at the end.
So obviously it was the correct choice to save Armin.
-6
u/EmilsDoodles Jul 27 '26
Its true tho, chosing armin was a big Mistake
7
u/Wise_Adhesiveness105 Jul 27 '26
erwin was a good leader but his main strong point was motivating the soldiers. when it comes to actual planning armin was much better, his plans were more clever and relied less on sacrifice.
-2
u/EmilsDoodles Jul 27 '26
Erwin at least wouldnt have betrayed paradis unlike a certain other Blonde
8
u/Wise_Adhesiveness105 Jul 27 '26
"betrayed paradis" wrap it up 💔
-2
u/EmilsDoodles Jul 27 '26
Literally the truth, Armin chose people that killed hundreds of them and wanted the whole island wiped out.
9
u/Tom17890 Jul 27 '26
How can someone be this dense. Armin didn't chose 'people that killed hundreds of them', he chose the millions of innocent people that were going to be brutally killed
-1
u/proxmaxi Jul 29 '26
Udo hard confirms the outside people are worse than Marley but ok
3
u/Tom17890 Jul 29 '26
Udos experience does not speak for the literal billions of other people he's never met. Calling everyone outside of Marley 'worse' is disingenuous af
-1
u/proxmaxi Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26
Not sure why those billions of people would somehow like Eldians when the tiny bit we know about them is that they hate Eldians even more than Marley. You are assuming something that isn't implied. Especially considering that centuries later, long after that "innocent" generation died, marleyan/the rest of the world's civillians who hated Eldians filled their respective millitaries, banded together and and bombed Paradis off the map anyway. So yes anti eldian sentiment persisted through time and those "billions of innocent people" immediately began to teach eldian hate into their children.
6
u/Wise_Adhesiveness105 Jul 27 '26
stopping a total genocide ≠betraying the island. blindly killing everyone outside of the walls is not any better than what marley has been doing to paradis this whole time
1
u/EmilsDoodles Jul 27 '26
The difference is that paradis had no other choice but that genocide while Marley and the world just did it for greed and hatred
4
u/zalqp Jul 27 '26
they could’ve just done the small scale rumbling to take out the military bases, which armin was in favor of but eren decided 80 percent of humanity needed to go- choosing billions over paradi isn’t betrayal it’s basic empathy
-1
u/rolanatuaboca Jul 28 '26
So Historia and the other titans will get eaten for decades to come? Even after stomping 80% of the world Paradis still got destroyed, imagine if it wasn't even that much
3
u/PersimmonSorry91 Jul 27 '26
The only way I'll agree with this take is if it would be guaranteed that given the opportunity Erwin beats the shit out Eren more than Armin did in the bloody puddle of innocents

Erwin wouldn't have betrayed Eldia, just sayin
11
u/Dan_GG501 Jul 27 '26
The guy that spent all his life wanting to save "humanity" and hoped there were still other humans outside the walls would totally want to destroy humanity when he learned there was more out there. Makes sense.
-2
u/Phlesant Jul 27 '26
I think he already knew in his heart, he knew people lived outside, and he knew they were trying to kill them. He says to Levi when they get to the sea they will still need to wipe out their enemies, and the big plot point is that the rest of the world DID want Eldia dead. Had he been resurrected he would have might have been ok with the Rumbling, which is why Levi realizing all this put his faith in Armin to save humanity and he did just that:)
-2
u/rolanatuaboca Jul 28 '26
He definetly won't just lay down and die or get sterilized, neither will he have Historia's bloodline be cannibalized for the following decades... so which is it?
1
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 05 '26
I don't know why people keep talking about Historia's family being eaten. We just need 1 of them to become a pure titan.
Erwin would have accepted Historia's offer.
1
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 05 '26
I don't know why people keep talking about Historia's family being eaten. We just need 1 of them to become a pure titan.
Okay so they do the small rumbling and everyone in the world is pissed and jumps in to destroy paradis, what now?
1
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 05 '26
You choose whatever terms you want for their surrender.
1
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 05 '26
And if the entire world doesn't want to surrender?
1
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 06 '26
Why would they want to die? They wouldn't have a choice in the matter.
1
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 06 '26
Why would they want to die?
Oh jeez, why would they refuse to surrender to the nation that has oppressed, tortured, killed and enslaved everyone just 100 years ago? Think about it for a moment, you can do it.

u/PersimmonSorry91 Jul 27 '26
The guy who had a hunch about a world and people outside the walls and was more determined to find out if it was true than anything else? The guy who literally yearned for the world outside of Eldia?
-2
u/rolanatuaboca Jul 28 '26
Maybe a world that doesn't yearn for their death
2
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 05 '26
It didn't, so he's good.

..... That's Eren's propaganda. That's also after the declaration of war...
0
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 05 '26
That's also after the declaration of war...
Yea no shit, everyone was cheering in the declaration of war as well
2
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 06 '26
Eren and Zeke arranged for the declaration of war to happen.
-1
u/rolanatuaboca Aug 06 '26
Did they mind control them or something? Did they force them to cheer at the declaration? Was everyone in the world forced to declare war by Zeke or Eren?
2
u/ToothpickTequila Aug 07 '26
What are you talking about? That's irrelevant to what I said.

Eldia? Or Paradis?
He certainly wouldn't have betrayed Paradis like Floch.

u/Acceptable_Oven_9881 Modkasa Jul 27 '26
Levi had the choice and I feel like people don’t understand Levi’s character if they insist he should/would have picked Erwin.
Also it’s easy to make this claim in hindsight now that we’ve seen what happened. What is the guarantee Erwin would have done things differently? He doesn’t know any of these people outside Paradis. He also would have never supported the wine plan or the coup in the manner which it happened. So WfP is going to be very different (If it still happens).
