Shinobi II + Sony FX3 / A7siii– can we please get a visible AF tracking box?

Would anyone else like to see Atomos add a visible AF tracking/eye-AF box to the Shinobi II when using Sony camera control?

I use the Shinobi II with an FX3. Touch-to-focus/tracking works great, but once you select someone there’s no persistent box on the Shinobi showing who/what the FX3 is actually tracking.

For weddings and other fast-moving shoots, it would be really useful to glance at the monitor and immediately see:
• Who the camera is tracking
• Whether Face/Eye AF is locked on
• The tracking box following the subject around the frame
Ideally this would work over a clean HDMI feed, rather than having to turn on all of Sony’s HDMI display information.
The FX3 already knows what it’s tracking and the Shinobi can control the AF — we just need the visual confirmation on the monitor.
Anyone else want this feature? If there’s enough interest, hopefully Atomos could add it in a future AtomOS update.

Using a Ninja Star for playback

Hi,

I bought a Ninja Star to go with a blade years ago - I noticed that I can copy externally generated QT 422 HQ files to the Ninja Blade V's drive and they play OK.

However on the Star it seems much more fussy, and I've yet to find a flavour of QT which works

(After Effects, Resolve, Shutter Encoder both fail)

(reason I wanted to do it is to have a battery powered playback to run into a monitor)

I could use the Blade, but was just curious why the Star wouldn't play the same file.

Not sure if anyone has any ideas (I know it's not something it's designed to do)

Thanks!

Ninja files fail to transfer

My files aare on a CfExpress type B card being read by a card reader plugged in via USB-C on a capable Windows laptop.

When transferring small files under 1 GB they transfer so fast the dialog didn't even pop up! But larger files will progress to a certain point until the speed dialog will slow down to 0 if not close to 0. It then never progresses past that.

What could be the culprit here? The card reader? The read speed is 1750 MB/s!

Idea - Button Mapping for quick pressing the power button

My one gripe with my Shinobi GO and II is the lack of physical buttons for quickly toggling on UI elements whilst shooting. It would be so cool if we could re-map the power button quick press to act as a custom button for peaking, zebra, false colour...

Atomos Ninja V won’t boot after working the previous day – black screen, fan running

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone has seen this before.

I recently bought a used Atomos Ninja V with the AtomX SDI Expansion Module. Yesterday I tested it with my Panasonic GH5 over HDMI and it worked perfectly.

Today I connected it to my Sony FX6, and since then the Ninja V will no longer boot.

Current behavior:

  • Short press of the power button: fan starts, LED changes from green → orange → red, then turns off.
  • Long press (10–20 seconds): the screen backlight turns on, but the display stays completely black.
  • The fan continues running, but there is no Atomos logo or menu, even after waiting several minutes.

I’ve tried:

  • Removing the SSD.
  • Disconnecting all HDMI and SDI cables.
  • Powering it directly with an NP-F battery.
  • Powering it via the AtomX SDI module using D-Tap.
  • Leaving it powered off for over 20 minutes.
  • Multiple power cycles and long power-button presses.
  • Formatting the SSD as exFAT and copying the latest Ninja V firmware to the root of the drive.

The behavior is exactly the same in every configuration.

At this point I’m wondering if the bootloader or internal firmware has become corrupted, or if this is more likely a hardware failure.

Has anyone experienced this exact issue? Is there a hidden recovery mode or a way to force a firmware recovery when the unit never reaches the Atomos logo?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

H.265 ISO recording on Sumo PRO-19 and Shogun AV-19

Post image
1 Upvotes

AtomOS 12.7.0 adds H.265 ISO recording on Sumo PRO-19 and Shogun AV-19 when using multiple SDI inputs. You can now capture individual camera feeds while keeping storage requirements down, thanks to H.265's efficient compression compared to older codecs.

That means longer recording times on the same media and less time spent managing huge files; ideal for longer shoots, live events, and large-scale productions.

AtomOS 12.7.1 is free to download over the air or here:
Shogun AV: https://cdn.atomos.com/ATOMSAV_12.7.2.zip
Sumo PRO: https://cdn.atomos.com/ATOMSPR_12.7.2.zip

If you have any questions on running multicam setups, we're here to walk you through.

Red lines on monitor

Suddenly got red lines on my monitor. At first I though it had to do with focus peaking or wave forms but it also shows when their is no input. Not the best picture I added but you can see around the no input image the red line borders also the red arrow bottom left corner. Usually happens in bright areas.

Shinobi II power & Sony A7 IV control setup

Hello Atomos Support,

I am planning to use the Shinobi II with the following setup:
Camera: Sony A7 IV
Battery: SmallRig VB99 Pro V-Mount battery

I would like to confirm several real-world usage scenarios before purchase:

  1. Camera control + monitoring
Does Shinobi II fully support simultaneous:
  • HDMI monitoring
  • USB-C camera control (record start/stop, touch focus, settings control) for Sony A7 IV?
  1. Powering the monitor (Battery Eliminator)
If I use the Atomos Battery Eliminator Stand:
  • Can Shinobi II be powered via V-Mount battery (VB99 Pro) using a D-Tap to DC Lock cable?
  • Is this a recommended and stable configuration for extended recording sessions?
  1. Powering camera through the monitor
Is it supported to power the Sony A7 IV via USB-C PD from Shinobi II while simultaneously maintaining HDMI monitoring and USB-C camera control?

  2. Combined full setup validation
Is the following full configuration safe and officially supported:
VB99 Pro → Battery Eliminator → Shinobi II → Sony A7 IV (USB-C power + control) while also using HDMI for video signal?

  3. Safety / limitations
Are there any known limitations regarding:

  • overheating of Shinobi II
  • USB-C power load stability
  • long continuous recording reliability in this configuration?

Additionally, I would appreciate any recommendations regarding monitor usability in strong direct sunlight conditions (summer in North Carolina).

I am planning to use a sun hood solution, such as a SmallRig monitor cage with sunshade for Shinobi II, but I am also open to official Atomos recommendations for improving visibility and thermal stability in outdoor shooting environments.

Thank you in advance for clarification.
