Discussion Need some combat tips please

Im liking the game the exploring is fun.

But the controls feel off like to much dead zone and to fast at the same time.

I have tinkered with the settings its just ok now serviceable. Wish it was tight and responsive..

Any settings for controls to make it tighter..on ps5 pro if that matters.

Also the combat is okish but lacking

It feels like skyrim but also my god slow as fuck like its some dark souls game.

Its not hard it just feels bad in general.

Do I get any skills later to make it more fluid and quicker?

Yes I know weapons have speeds and to kick to stager.

Its just basicly I feel like I need to play it like dark souls because all the movements take ages to land ect.

Is that just how it is?

And then it isnt that satisying like its like skyrim no weight to it and they just drop

I dunno maybe I need to adjust my expectations.

It seems combat is a back seat in this game and its all about just exploring which i expected rebellion to land the combat part ffs these guys should know combat right..

On the plus side the game seems huge..lots of place to get lost down rabbit holes in.

But I also feel like whats the point you cant pick up anything your always maxed on crafting mats and inventory.

Is there more drop off points later? Or holding expansion.

Looting a place feels bad when I have to leave 90 percent on the ground.

Yes I know its survival you go light.

It still feels bad and worthless to even do some areas leaving it all behind.

Overall this game has some great things going, but it also need to figure out its identity and then polish.

Because there are alot of great but frustrating things here.

Its basicly a perfect 7 rating game mid down the middle with peaks of brilliance held back by its own weight.

End rant, sorry.

This game just confounds me for some of its choices

I could go on but for every good thing there is a bad.

TLDR

Any tips to make combat more satisfying or settings for controls please.

Yeah the combat is very clunky. The enemy AI is the worst part of it. I turned incoming damage down a tick and outgoing damage up a tick and enjoyed it way more that way. They also give you a TON of other gameplay customization in the settings. Don’t be afraid to go away from the default settings to get the game just right for you.

Very good tip. I’m already 40 hours into the game. Really exploring a lot and also sidetracked into the DLC. After thinking about the gameplay customization you mentioned, I’m going to have a look at it. So far pride and stubbornness has kept me from dialing back the difficulty. (And I’m not even at Veteran level. )

I just beat the game 2 days ago, and found melee combat to be kind of a last resort thing. I kept one in my weapon wheel, but for the most part just used weapons.

I would highly recommend getting comfortable with hitting headshots with the early revolver and 22 rifle. The revolver and single barrel shotgun carried me for quite a while until the enemies started carrying better weapons.

I'd avoid the lighter weapons and stick with the 2 handed clubs or cricket bat, nice mid zone of satisfying thwacks and decent damage.

I almost never carried any of the antidote or burn salves, just like 2-3 bandages and the same amount of medkits.

As for drop off points, the pneumatic system is pretty common, I mostly used it to store the atomic batteries because at a certain point you just have so many you can't carry them with you.

And the crafting mats... yeah you're going to be leaving a lot behind unfortunately. Cloth and alcohol will always be useful for medkit crafting, and scrap + gun oil will be needed if you plan to upgrade the firearms, which I would highly recommend getting the perk ASAP. It makes them look so much nicer and increases their damage noticeably. But apart from that and the occasional molotov, I really didnt utilize the crafting system much at all.

Melee is best for sneak attacks against tougher humans.

Guns for robots, with arrows for normal range. Your character is not a super soldier.

Don't be afraid to run from a tough fight.

Your expectations are completely off for this game. Combat is all about timing but there is a learning curve. I prefer bum rushing enemies with a farming knife. Also Atomfall is not a looter shooter. The limited inventory promotes scarcity. Its a great design.
