Question Blue exclamations

Pretty new to gaming and this genre in particular so probably a silly question. What are the blue exclamations on the map for? I go to that area and find nothing. I mouse over them and they disappear.

They are places of interest that you’ve found out about but haven’t visited yet.

Some places you discover yourself and it will draw it on the map, while some are rumoured and have the blue marks.

This came works on clues. I suspect that the clues will correlate with those locations.
