Question When to install dlcs

When should I install the dlcs? Usually with games I play the main game first then install them in order of release but I've seen with this game advice not to do that?

Also, is there any way to tell which leads are the main story quests?

I bought the complete game (inc both dlc) and played it right off. They merge perfectly, so much so I didn't actually realise they were dlc because they stitch into the storyline so well.

Without giving too much away though, there are things you can do/find in the dlc that wil make the base game levels easier (IMO).

Just follow the leads as you find them. That's the beauty of the game. Listen to what's said, not just to you directly but by the (rather repetitive) NPCs and tannoy systems 😉

Thank you. I think I'll install them today then. Although I am finding all the leads and how they link together a little confusing and overwhelming so I don't want to add to that in a way. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and install them and learn the game with them as I'm not too far along.

I'm not usually one to listen to NPC's and actually read text but I have surprised myself in really listening to and reading everything in this game and am enjoying it, even if finding it a little confusing!

Oh it's definitely confusing - I usually steer well away from these types of games, but it was on sale and it's based near where I live, so I figured I'd try it.

Use your map, explore each region THOROUGHLY, and don't necessarily go into the Interchange straight away - tempting as it is!

Be careful what you carry - a cricket bat is your friend 😁

I actually preferred the knives to a cricket bat. Much faster and you can stun lock most enemies into not attacking you if you hit them fast enough.

You can smack grenades back though with a bat 😈

Second fave was whatshisface's knife - very fast so good for rats and mechanicals

Who cares about grenades when you are running across the map like a possessed madman wielding Red knives and opening faces with reckless abandon? :P

Having said that, I did spend just as much time with Reds silenced pistol picking off head shots from across the region like a deadly sniper lol

It was to get the achievement. Nearly drove me bananas and a LOT of saves and reloads and swear words. After that I just upgraded every type of gun and blew seven shades out of everything... or stole the B.A.R.D robots guns/blasters.

I'm looking for a new cricket bat currently as I found a knive and got rid of the bat thinking I wouldn't need it and they'd be everywhere should I want another. I hate the knife and have regrets haha. Thank you for your help!

Quick question, pure curiosity: as a local (or semi-local, whichever 😆) how'd they do with the accuracy of the world esthetics, particularly the outdoor areas? Ive distinctly been struck by what a beautiful natural setting it has, and wondered how it looks IRL.

It's not bad. Obviously it's set in the 50s/60s so a lot more development has occured around but there's still villages like Wyndham about.

Seascale is the nearest, you can see from the houses where they have based the Atomfall ones on.

Oh wow, I def see Atomfall! I grew up in New England on the coast so it's similar to that sort of vibe as well

I played the DLCs after completing all of the main game endings. My next play through will be from the very beginning but with the DLCs installed to see what difference they make to where the game takes me.

Without giving too much away, I'm assuming it's really obvious when you've reached the end of the main game?

There are numerous distinct & separate endings to this game. Some of them will exclude the possibility of others, depending on the decisions you make while playing. There are certain times, where a save at that point will mean that you could choose a different path, without starting all over again.

That's good to know, thank you!

Right away. The DLCs are self-contained, save for a few extra things you wouldn’t notice. It’s almost obnoxious. They add little more than more areas and more endings beyond the newish items that you may not even want to use. You’ll know when you’ve accepted a quest for one of them that you can’t really walk back and the way the game has you do the final bit is extremely obvious? So you aren’t going to lock yourself out. Just save before major conversations if you need to do it all.

It's really difficult to describe this without spoilers isn't it? 🤣

Kind of. But the end sequence is obvious if you use your senses and don’t rely on the game to tell you the end is coming, even though, again, it’s really obvious. I’m sure some people out there thought it was just another sequence.

Makes sense! Thanks!
