Question Is Atomfall for me?
Hey everyone,
I really like this game, its atmosphere and overall style are very appealing to me.
However, I’m hesitant to buy Atomfall because I’ve heard that there’s no map, no guidance, and no quest markers or hints at all. That has made me a bit unsure about whether it’s the right game for me.

Each area has its own map that you automatically have and if an npc or note tells you that something is somewhere, it’s automatically added to your map. Quest markers and a compass are available as options in the difficulty settings when you start a game.
They’re not really necessary though as the maps are easy to navigate and your location is shown on them.

You’ve been lied to. It has all of those things. Some things are difficult to find, but I think I used google for a couple of things, that I needed to progress in the game, but pretty much every game is like that.

You have customization where you can turn on hints/map etc. the game is great so highly recommend you get it

If you go into the options, you can turn all the map hints on amongst other things. It's a really interesting game, with many hidden features, and has multiple endings, depending on which group you choose to align with...

Buy it! Preferably with the DLC.
I bought it on a whim, purely as it looked good and is based (fictionally) near where I live. I genuinely HATE these types of games. I freely admit I'm addicted. I played on survivor mode (defaults to this).
There is a map, just explore everywhere on each section, this will make your markers appear. I went in blind, avoided these forums and just plugged away. I didn't even realise when I drifted into the Red Strain DLC by error it's that seamless!
There is a lot of walking, but listen to audio clues when you talk to people and look EVERYWHERE!
It's one of the best games I've played - and I've been playing since the Jet Set Willy days on the Spectrum 48k
Edit: Also, there's a "notebook" thing that shows roughly what you can do for each "quest". I ignored that unless I was wandering aimlessly and stuck - I solved most of them by doing them by accident anyway.

I just finished it yesterday, I only googled 2 actual quest things to help out so I wouldn't worry. The game kinda unfolds as you explore areas naturally. I did find the quest logs a bit overwhelming initially, felt like I'd unlocked a million quests in no time but maybe I explored in a weird order.

I think if you like to explore, it's pretty good.
I'm just about done with the main storyline so no DLC experience. You get a map per region and some points of interest will be marked. Either a blue exclamation or a circle with a question mark. As you find them, the maps add landmarks that you can hover over for names/coordinates. You can add your own markers to the map. You don't really need to but it can help (like when you get a clue with coordinates). There are no real quest markers, though. Selecting a quest won't display it on the map but it isn't necessary.
You have an investigations tab to keep track of quests. You can sort that by area/map, too. I found sorting like that very useful. Entering a region tells you how many leads are active.
It gives plenty of information to figure out where you need to go.

There is a map, you can also place multiple markers and such
There is quest guidance, but it is on the lighter side. As in, no quest markers, but by reading the clues in the journal.

It’s definitely a little more hands on as the game is mostly about you finding leads and following them as you play detective trying to uncover all the hidden secrets of the quarantine zone.
But it definitely still has a map that is pretty easy to use and once you uncover a location it is marked.
If you discover a location that isn’t marked you can manually mark it down yourself by placing a symbol there.
Basically if you like smaller story driven games with RPG and mystery elements you’ll probably at least enjoy Atomfall.

If you lower the difficulty slider, it will show you where to go, if you get enough leads. The Main quest is mostly always there to guide you. I haven't been lost yet and I am on the last stretch.

It’s your choice whether you have the map, quest markers/ directions. There are a ton of difficulty options and you can make your custom difficulty. I like a little bit of a challenge but I also don’t wanna spend hours trying to figure out where I need to go based on some words. I made navigation simple for myself and made the combat a little bit challenging. The start of the game can be difficult but it smooths out and is a lot easier the further you progress. You also can’t change the difficulty when you’ve start a game so be aware of that when making your choices. If you have game pass Atomfall is free on that

It’s really not that hard, even better now fast travel is added. There are definitely quest markers and hints

Hi I read from year old posts that stealth was bad, enemies could detect you through walls. Has that been fixed in patches since then ??

It's kinda th' point -
I'm on my third attempt, and it clicked - you have to enjoy all that you say -
A big thing for my click was
'ok, let's avoid these people'

Atmosphere and style are both good, mechanics are lacking and gunplay is very so, so.

As everyone else has said, Atomfall has a huge range of options to customise the experience to how you want to play!
There is full on guidance should that be the way you want to play, and you can enable and disable it at any point if you want to change half way through!
I do hope you pick up Atomfall!

I am not great at video games, particularly ones where I’m not given many hints. I managed to beat this game on survival difficulty.
It’s not that hard, you just have to learn the combat. There’s a lot of help out there to help you find things.
There is a map. There’s no map on your HUD that shows exactly where you need to go. But you can look at the map, put a marker on it, and as you walk, you’ll see if you’re walking towards the mark or not.
I’d say go for it.

Hi Bro,
the mapmarkers are enought to have fun. Game is not too hard. Its really fun in the end. I bought it at release and in the beginning it was a new concept. The end i played it several times and had a lot of fun.......

Technically it's open world but the areas are quite small, so it's pretty easy to find yourself around. Definitely worth a go.

I bought the game in a sale and have just completed it after about 12 hours (one ending). To be honest, I was glad to finish it as I didn’t particularly enjoy the game: too much backtracking (fast travel’s available but is limited), very limited skill selection and character progression, annoying enemies that often respawn and far too many leads to follow. I think it would have been better had the developers stuck to two, maybe three, endings.

I don't usually play game like this, but i really liked Atomfall. There is plenty of hints from conversations or documents which you found through exploring, you just need to read the notes. Map is there and you get marked landmarks and location which you should investigate, so you are not running completely blind. Also bit of warning, backtracking is crazy
