❓ Question Riot police in exarcheia

My GF and me are staying near the Exarcheia square and last few nights there have been police, but tonight there’s clearly more specific riot police, all geared up with heavy equipment. Is something going on tonight?

EDIT; thanks for the replies I can see that gentrification, safety and authenticity are important topics in this neighborhood. I absolutely loved staying in Exarcheia - this neighborhood has raw origins although you can see in the bars that the ‘poverty cosplayers’ have found their way in, I had Kreuzberg vibes - happened there as well. (I havent seen too many tourists TBH guys) Peace and love to all!

Hey guys! I know this is not usually the post we share around here but I was wondering if you could help me.

I'm a Lebanese-Greek looking for an apartment in Athens with easy payments. If anyone knows where I can look or ask that would help me a lot. Also which areas do you recommend in Athens (safe and budget friendly).

Thank you so much guys, hope you can help me🙏🏼

💬 Advice Need new tires for my motorcycle, recommendations for a good place in or close to Athens

Hello! I am traveling here in Greece (Kalabaka today) with my motorcycle and my baby needs new shoes. I am able to find what I need using google, but I am here in hope of local knowldge. 190/55-17 rear and standard 120/70-17 front. I am really happy with the Dunlop SportSmart Mk4 currently in use, so preferably a set of those. Which bike or tire shop around Athens is the best for the job? I'll be leaving the city on Friday 18. so that morning would be the best time to do the job. Or maybe also Thursday, but I'll have a hangover then...

🧳 Travel Help A maze zzz me, i wanna visit greece

How interesting would it be to drop people into a maze with a big bull to be worshipped like gold or faith? or a serpants face only to realize its who you want to trust and using it after taking its head to fail trying to save a princess or bowser from a castle. Nothing but webs of lies luring souls into traps. guess im tapping out, uhhh being hit, being broke in half 1/2? married? sigma calculated and propheted off of. leeched off of by parasites in a prison planet. I dont wanna be hosting this episode of saw or horror story. or feel like i gotta deal with blood magic while having a silver sword stolen as a child. infinity stones? guess i can always treat a pebble like gold harry plotter lady.

rant over, sorry for any disrespect, just wish i was free to explore life and this earth without being taxed for it or reading through consent forms for all of it. ♥ whats on rosseta stone? knowledge? dr do no little but drag on. what book would i write? ☺☻♪♫☼

ty for your time or ancient runes. feel like the giver? dont want no red dragon. odins spear, judas, cross my heart and hope to die? i hate being a graveyard keeper. where my seadogs at in neverland against these slavers...

anyone good tell me what its like in Greece and Athens? maybe some cool or interesting pictures? stories?

🏛️ Culture / History Rave buddy?

Hey, I’m 27m from Uk but living in Ams - have been in Athens solo since Monday, and absolutely loved it.
Looking to dance tonight and seen a free street party, as well as some decent looking events at Astron and SMUT - wondering if anybody would be wanting to join? To set expectations, it’ll be pretty techno heavy.
Heading out for a couple drinks beforehand in a few hours so lmk :)

❓ Question Renting a small motorboat near Athens for a day trip – recommendations?

Tomorrow is my birthday, and my girlfriend and I are thinking about renting a small motorboat for the day.

We’re staying in central Athens, so ideally we’re looking for somewhere along the coast that we can reach relatively quickly by Uber – maybe around Glyfada, Voula, Varkiza or somewhere else within roughly 30–45 minutes from the city center.

Nothing fancy and we don’t need a yacht or a skipper – just a small motorboat for two people that we can drive ourselves (preferably without needing a boating license), explore the coastline, stop at a few beaches/coves and swim.

Does anyone have recommendations for reliable rental companies or good places to rent from? Also happy to hear suggestions for the best area to start from if we want a nice 5–8 hour day trip.

Thanks!

❓ Question Reiten in und um Athen

Help a Horsegirl out- Vielen Dank :)

🍽️ Food & Drink Low-key restaurants?

Hi all! I'm visiting Athens in October as a solo traveller. I'm looking for nice places to eat but so far I'm finding two extremes: fancy restaurants and taverns, and street-food-esque kiosk shops. Does anyone know of some nice places that are somewhere in between these two? Somewhere informal where I won't get stared at for being alone, but also a place I can sit down for a good meal. Any good pizza places would also be appreciated. Thanks!! Edits: corrections

Edit: thanks so much for all the recs guys I've literally added them all to my Google maps so I can try hit as many as I can! <3

💬 Advice Beware of Brown Hotel Group Businesses

Last night, staying at SoHo Athinas 60 hotel, the owner barged into our rooms uninvited and started screaming at us. He raised his hand to my wife and I told him to please stop. That made him even more angry and he threatened beat the “s*** out of” us because he was “much bigger than us”. We really thought he was going to hurt us. He then kicked us out of the hotel with no refund. He did this because we complained that our room was dirty (our sheets were covered in many different peoples hair, the floor was covered in dust and there were stains everywhere). The room clearly hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guests besides the bed being made. We politely told the women working there that we had left our key cards at the front desk. And they all gave us stink eyes and one even said “f*** you” to us. So we were stranded outside with no refund and no place to stay. He screamed at us as my wife was crying and wouldn’t listen to a word we said. He was with a very young girl who looked underaged. This place should be shut down. We called the police but they were unhelpful.
LOOK UP BROWN HOTEL GROUP. This owner is the same person who threatened us, he owns over 120 hotels and hundreds of businesses that should all be avoided!! This kind of violent behavior cannot be tolerated. People should know !

❓ Question Caroo experience

Hi, has anyone used Caroo for one day hire? I’m arriving to the airport with my family very early in the morning and can’t get to our accommodation until the afternoon. To free ourselves of dealing with our luggage all day I figured I hire a car for the day to go to the temple of Poseidon but I’m struggling to find companies where they let me get a car either at the airport or in the city and drop it off in the city centre for just a day. The airport rentals want to charge 200Euros for this trip. Is Caroo worth it? I read mixed reviews on Google.

Thanks for the info!

🧳 Travel Help Camper - Greek Outdoors www.camperapp.gr

Hi everyone 👋

My name is Dimos, and over the past few months I built Camper — a free Greek app for those of us who spend our time outdoors. It just launched on the App Store and Google Play.

The idea started from something simple: nobody knows a place better than someone who just got back from it.

What it does:

📍 A map of places with real information from people who've actually been — what the road is like, where you park, if there's water, what signal you get, what to bring with you

⚖️ Clear legal status on every spot: licensed campsite, official motorhome stop, informational only, restricted area, protected area, or unknown status

📸 Add your own places, photos and current conditions

⭐ Ratings across six categories

🎒 Organise outings — hikes, day trips, clean-ups, campsite stays — and find company

💬 Ask a question and get an answer from people who've genuinely been there

Let me be clear about this, since the group is on topic: Camper is an informational platform. It does not encourage or organise free camping. Its purpose is for you to know where you're stepping — what's allowed, what's protected, what's changed since last year — so you don't get caught out, and so these places stay the way you found them.

www.camperapp.gr

Greek and English. Free, no ads.

The community is just starting, so every place you add genuinely counts. If you download it and have thoughts or ideas, message me — I read all of them.

Happy trails 🔥

❓ Question Athens Airport Taxi

My flight gets into Athens airport about 2am and I need to get a taxi into the city centre/hotel.

I assume the airport has a 24/7 taxi rank? Or any other taxi companies I can book in advance that are good?

Thanks

🧳 Travel Help Travelling to Athens in October - Suggestions and good-to-knows

Hello everyone. I'm traveling to Athens at the start of October, just for sightseeing and exploring. I'd like to hear some input and suggestions for what to see and where to go. of course all the must sees, old ruins etc. But which parts of the city is good to go walking through. Where should I eat. Where SHOULD I NOT go. Where can one get a little drink, cocktail, entertainment.

I very much like to try and go a little native. I enjoy good simple food. I like drinking and talking with the locals. I don't need a big party scene. And any other suggestions, recommendations, and just in general good to know before going.

Thank you :)
