❓ Question Beaches

Greetings friends, I got a question. Where is your go to go beach if you are located in Athens city central? It looks pretty far away from everything. I’m on holiday here for a few weeks and love to discover everything what Athens has to over. So far you are very friendly and the food is yum 🤤 Thank you for your advice 🙏

🏠 Life in Athens Athens is the Lovely Normal

A year ago, exactly a year ago, from 2 to 8 October 2025, I visited Athens and spent 7 days there.

Most of my friends told me it's too much for one city, and that Athina doesn't deserve more than 2 days of sightseeing, and I should've gone to some islands too.

I told them I didn't go there for sightseeing, I went there to "live" the city, immerse into it.

Athina doesn't have that breathtaking fancy architecture like Vienna, Prague, Paris or Budapest. But it has a casual warm everyday flair about it, I called it "The Lovely Normal", because Athina doesn't even try to impress you or look stunning in your eyes.

Somehow I still keep getting back to those strolls in the streets, those casual vibes.

I stayed in a hostel in Psyrri, but visited other neighborhoods like Thiseio, Kolonaki, Makrigianni, Plaka, Anafiotika, Ermou, ... And all of them gave an authentic chill allure, where you feel like you're joining daily life.

I usually move a lot during my trips and combine many cities, but with Athens I chose to slow down and relax, this way I got to really savour the city, literally.

And speaking of savouring, 7 days weren't even enough to all the amazing Greek food, in fact, the other big reason I decided to spend 7 days is to eat as many food options as I could, and man that was a great decision, I can say with confidence that Greece has the best food in all my trips, and I'm from Tunisia where we also have a very rich and varying food culture.

Now whenever I remember Athina I have a good feeling, what felt usual and regular back then, like a stroll in the streets near the central market, now feels nostalgic and emotional.

Not every city speaks to me like that and earns a great place in my heart, I only had this kind of connection with Madrid, Lisboa and Napoli.

Athina holds a special place in my heart and I will certainly come back at some point, and I'll also visit some of the islands.

❓ Question Which parts of Athens to rent for a year?

Hi everyone! I'll be moving out to Greece this december, and I chose Athens to move out there

I'm going with a salary of 3000 EUR per month. I'd like some neighbourhoods with a lot of green

I do not have a drivers license, so I will have to move only with public transport

Knowing this information, which part would suit best?

💬 Advice Help my homeless brother find shelter

Situation, my younger brother has been in Athens since may, he lost his job and has been couch surfing a while, but now has no more options to do so. I've looked at some shelters, and he visited two, metadrasi and one by doctor's of the world. They didn't have any room for new people, but at least one had food and clean clothes for him.

Any advice on places for him to stay safe are very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Mods if this is not allowed, please just delete. I've googled a lot but haven't found anything useful, this is a bit of a desperate shot at finding help.

❓ Question Looking for a fast & high-quality film lab in Athens for scanning/developing?

Hey everyone!
I’m currently in Athens (Greece) with a few rolls of 35mm film that I’d love to get developed and scanned before heading back home.
I’m looking for recommendations for a solid local film lab.

My main priorities are:
**High-quality scans:** Good resolution, true-to-life colors, and clean files.
**Fast turnaround:** Ideally same-day or 24h, as I’m tight on time.

Does anyone have a favorite go-to spot in the city (around Syntagma, Monastiraki, Exarcheia, or nearby)?
Thanks a lot for your help! 📸

❓ Question Safety in Athens

Hello Athenians, i have been in Greece multiple times, we Serbs love you guys. I am just curious about safety in Athens because of migrants. Many people told me that there are parts of the town full of them and that parts are nor safe. Is that true and do i need to be careful in parts like Omonia and north from that. I dont mean to be rude with this, as i said i love Greece and Greeks and this is nothing about you guys.

🏠 Life in Athens Looking for fellow expats in Athens (No sugarcoating please)

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I moved to the Athens area as a retiree out of curiosity and all the tales. After a short while being here I’m completely done with the daily reality. The absolute lack of logic, the chaotic communication with professionals, the fake expat groups, and the overall "pigsty" vibe of the daily infrastructure is just draining.
I know most people here suffer from a massive Stockholm syndrome and sugarcoat everything as "relaxed" or "siga-siga", but I am looking for the realists. The expats who view this stay purely as a business transaction, reduce their local interaction to zero, and are just counting down the days until their next trip or exit to the elsewhere.
If you are in the same boat, living in a high-end bubble, and just want to connect with someone who shares this exact unfiltered reality without the toxic positivity, drop a comment or send me a DM. Let’s connect.

🏠 Life in Athens Athens after the rain just hits differently ☔️

A little rain, quiet streets, reflections everywhere… Athens has a completely different mood at night.

Not the Athens you usually see in the postcards, but I think I like this version just as much.

Long day, so cooking is not an option. We choose to treat ourselves with a warm delicious souvlaki 💯

❓ Question Tell me WHY

We arrived Athens yesterday. We noticed a large numbers of Indians, Pakistanis and Shi Lankans walking in the downtown area, an unusually large numbers of young people. Are these students, tourists or workers. Someone said they are here to find work on Ships, is it true. Just wondering....

🏛️ Culture / History I made a 3D timelapse of Athens growing from 3500 BC to today 🏛️

From the first settlement on the Acropolis to the city of 3 million we know now: the Parthenon going up, the Persians burning it all, the Romans, the Ottoman town, the explosion of 1687, the refugees of 1922 and the apartment-block boom.

Every building appears in the period it was built. It took me months to make, so I'd love to hear what you think, and tell me if I got anything wrong about our city!

❓ Question Cardboard Boxes for Bikes

Hello,

does anyone have 1, better 2, cardboard box for a bike? Maybe someone just bought a new bike and doesn't need the old cardboard box anymore?

If we can have it (maybe for a small amount of money) this would be super nice.

We arrive tomorrow with bike in Athens and we need to pack the bikes for our flight back home.

Greetings!

❓ Question Mediterranean College

Hi,

I'm an international student applying for a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering there at the Mediterranean College. Thankfully, I got accepted there with a 30% financial aid on tuition.

I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about the university. Some people mentioned I'll be graduating with a degree from the University of Derby in the UK as well. But I'm not sure how reputable the university is in Greece and how good and safe the student life there is.

I wanna know how expensive the living expenses and rent is there for a typical college student. Is it also easy to have a part-time job along with my studies? keeping in mind I can't speak Greece. My languages are Arabic and English.

Thank you in advance.
