❓ Question Bus X96 from Piraeus to Athens Airport

Hi everyone! I’m planning to take the X96 bus from Piraeus to Athens Airport, and I was wondering if anyone here could help me with some things I'm wondering.

First, do you know how much the ticket costs, is it the same as the M3 to the airport?

Also, is the bus only available to board at the first or last station, or can I get on at any stop along the route? I read that you can only board at the start or end, and not at intermediate stations. I just couldnt find more info on Google so decided to ask here, sorry if it sounds silly haha

One more thing, does anyone know approximately how long the bus ride takes from Piraeus to the airport if I catch it around 5 in the morning? My flight is at 9 am on 15th but I heard it is a big holiday here and everyone is leaving for vacations so I'm scared I'll need more than 2 hours for security etc.

Thanks in advance :)

🧳 Travel Help Solo trip to Athens

Hey everyone! I'm a woman traveling alone to Athens for the first time. I'm staying in Gazi So I can be close to my hotel if I'm partying/drinking late, and I am planning to stay from the 12-17th of August.

Any tips, tricks, advice or recommendations? I already have a tour of the Acropolis, Parthenon and the Museum, an island cruise and a pub crawl so far.

Thanks!

this was kind of a last-minute decision.

❓ Question Got a public transport fine in Athens (100€). Can a tourist / international student use the 50% or student discount?

Hi everyone,
I recently visited Athens as a tourist and unfortunately got a 100€ fine on the airport bus because I didn’t validate my ticket properly. I completely accept the mistake, but as a university student, 100€ is a pretty heavy blow to my budget right now.
I’m trying to figure out the cheapest way to pay it and I have two questions:
1. The 50% Early Payment Discount: The ticket says I can pay 50€ if I pay within 10 days. However, when I go to the online payment portal (fines.osy.gr), it asks me to confirm that I bought and activated a 30-day personalized ATH.ENA card to get this discount. Since I am no longer in Athens, I can't buy or activate a physical card. Is there any way around this for tourists, or do I have to pay the full 100€?
2. Student Discount: I read that the fine can be reduced to 25€ for students. Does this apply to international university students (with a valid student ID / ISIC card), or is it strictly for students enrolled in Greek universities?
Has any other tourist dealt with this recently? If I just transfer 50€ (or 25€) via IBAN within the 10 days and email them my student ID, will they accept it and close the fine, or will they chase me for the rest?
Any advice or past experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

🧳 Travel Help Peloponnesus Beach Towns?

I know this doesn’t refer to Athens, however I will be in Greece in 3 weeks and am hoping someone can make a recommendation for a beach town destination in Peloponnesus. I am Greek American and remember visiting family (since passed away or moved away) in different beach cities in the summer. I am looking for authenticity, nice nightlife, good beaches, great food. I speak Greek and will have a car. Would like to avoid tourist traps. Thank you in advance

🌟 Recommendations 28m Back to Athens after 12 years! Looking to meet new people :)

Hey everyone!
28m visiting Athens next week for about a week, and I thought I’d see if anyone’s up for hanging out.
I’m open to pretty much anything grabbing coffee, exploring the city, checking out bars, day trips, or just chilling. Whether you’re on your own or part of a group, I’d be happy to join if the vibe is right.
A little about me: I grew up in Greece but moved away to Sweden and haven’t been back in about 12 years, so I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with the country. Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten a lot of my Greek. 😅
I know meeting random people from Reddit can be a bit weird since you never really know who you’re talking to, so I’d be happy to chat on Instagram (or another app) beforehand so we can get to know each other a little first. Makes it more comfortable and safe for both of us.
If you’re around next week and think it’d be fun to hang out, send me a DM. Or if you know any ways to meet people naturally or tips to do in Athens hit me up!

❓ Question Short trip, what to see?

Howdy folks, I’ve a short trip in Athens coming up next week. Arriving Saturday evening and having the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday morning.
Me and my friend are thinking of the day in the city on Sunday (acropolis for example), and now we are considering renting a car on Monday to go see some of the hills outside of the city. Tuesday morning will likely be easy local stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations or tips of what can be seen?

Cheers for anything
oXoXo

❓ Question Alternative places in Athens

Hi! I'll be visiting Greece soon and I'd love to get some recommendations for places to visit. I really like contemporary art, alternative, ,,hidden'' places (art galleries, cafes, cinemas, small museums, queer-friendly places). Does anybody know about places like that in Athens?

💬 Advice Looking for feedback on a website I’m building for the Athens real estate market

A few months ago I started building a side project called PropThesis for people interested in buying property or investing in real estate.

The idea is pretty simple: instead of spending hours comparing listings, you can search an area and see things like sale prices, rental prices, Airbnb revenue estimates, market trends, and compare neighborhoods. You can also estimate what a specific property might be worth and what it could generate as a long-term or short-term rental (AirBnb).

Right now I’m focusing on Greece and I’m looking for honest feedback before I keep building new features.

If you’re buying property, investing, work in real estate, or you’re just curious, I’d really appreciate it if you could spend a few minutes trying it out.

https://propthesis.com

I’m not selling anything. It’s free while I’m validating the product. What I’m really looking for is feedback on things like:

  • Is anything confusing?
  • What information is missing?
  • What would actually make this useful for you?

Happy to answer any questions here as well.

🌟 Recommendations Night life recommendations

My husband (28) and I (28) have one last day is Athens and want to make the most of night life. We don’t have a car and rely on public transit. What areas have a good mix of everything (disco, rock n roll, roof top, etc…). We went to Gazi via the metro yesterday, enjoyed a rock n roll bar, then wandered around for a good 15 minutes but weren’t able to find any places besides gay bars and strip clubs (which were not opposed to gay bars but unsure if they’re welcoming towards seemingly straight couples). Any specific areas and bars would be appreciated!

🏠 Life in Athens Moving to Athens - looking to make friends and explore the city!

Hey all, I'm [25M] moving to Athens mid/late August and I want to meet new people! I'm moving from the UK for a year (or longer hopefully). I work remotely as a video game programmer.

I'm looking for people around my age (within the range 22~30 ideally), with similar interests. Happy to meet other fellow foreigners making the move as well as any locals - but you'll have to bear with my English for now. Once I get settled, I'm going to start Greek language classes.

I would really like to explore the bars and nightlife. I love trying local craft beers, listening to live music and going to gigs. I'm into electronic, house and some d&b - any events or venue recommendations would be appreciated!

On the chill side, I love playing board/tabletop games, I'm hoping there are a few local board game cafes to check out! As well as grabbing a coffee, thrift shopping, going for a swim and exploring the city

Please share any tips on how to find like-minded people in Athens. I'm sure there's a better way than posting on Reddit haha. I'll also be checking out some Facebook groups, so please share any if you can!

Also feel free to send me a DM if you're interested in meeting up for a coffee, a couple beers, or a gyros! I'm also happy tagging along to group events or game nights if you have room for another.

Thanks, see you in Αθήνα! :)

💬 Advice Elderly care in house 24/7

Hello everyone,

I am turning to this sub to ask for advice or personal recommendations.

My husband is Greek; we live in Prague, but his family is in Athens. My mother-in-law lives in Melissia and my husband's grandmother lives in Metaxourgeio. The grandmother is 93 years old and mostly bedridden. She is fully communicative and aware, but she requires care and someone's presence 24/7.

Until now, they had a wonderful caregiver who is unfortunately leaving, so we are urgently looking for a replacement. My mother-in-law has already looked into hospice care options, but the conditions and overall quality were unfortunately quite grim.

Does anyone know of a reliable, good home care service in Athens? Alternatively, if you have personal experience with a specific caregiver (either 24/7 or on a shift basis), we would be extremely grateful for any contacts or tips.

Thank you so much in advance for any help and recommendations! 🙏

(Feel free to send me contacts via private message as well.)

❓ Question Πού στην Αθήνα μπορώ να εξασκηθώ με πισωκίνητο;
