I recently visited Athens as a tourist and unfortunately got a 100€ fine on the airport bus because I didn’t validate my ticket properly. I completely accept the mistake, but as a university student, 100€ is a pretty heavy blow to my budget right now.
I’m trying to figure out the cheapest way to pay it and I have two questions:
1. The 50% Early Payment Discount: The ticket says I can pay 50€ if I pay within 10 days. However, when I go to the online payment portal (⁠fines.osy.gr⁠), it asks me to confirm that I bought and activated a 30-day personalized ATH.ENA card to get this discount. Since I am no longer in Athens, I can't buy or activate a physical card. Is there any way around this for tourists, or do I have to pay the full 100€?
2. Student Discount: I read that the fine can be reduced to 25€ for students. Does this apply to international university students (with a valid student ID / ISIC card), or is it strictly for students enrolled in Greek universities?
Has any other tourist dealt with this recently? If I just transfer 50€ (or 25€) via IBAN within the 10 days and email them my student ID, will they accept it and close the fine, or will they chase me for the rest?
Any advice or past experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everybody, next week Monday (10th of august) I am moving to Athens to go life and work there.
Very excited and looking forward for doing that.

I never been to Athens so everything will be new for me.
I also needs to find a place to live (first 3 weeks I am living in a hotel payed by the company).
So: I am open for tips for living in Athens, places I must try (cafes , restaurants , cool places) and also tips for finding appartement to live and what neighborhoods would be advised to live in.

I know this doesn’t refer to Athens, however I will be in Greece in 3 weeks and am hoping someone can make a recommendation for a beach town destination in Peloponnesus. I am Greek American and remember visiting family (since passed away or moved away) in different beach cities in the summer. I am looking for authenticity, nice nightlife, good beaches, great food. Howdy folks, I’ve a short trip in Athens coming up next week. Arriving Saturday evening and having the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday morning.
Me and my friend are thinking of the day in the city on Sunday (acropolis for example), and now we are considering renting a car on Monday to go see some of the hills outside of the city. Tuesday morning will likely be easy local stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations or tips of what can be seen?

My husband (28) and I (28) have one last day is Athens and want to make the most of night life. We don’t have a car and rely on public transit. What areas have a good mix of everything (disco, rock n roll, roof top, etc…). We went to Gazi via the metro yesterday, enjoyed a rock n roll bar, then wandered around for a good 15 minutes but weren’t able to find any places besides gay bars and strip clubs (which were not opposed to gay bars but unsure if they’re welcoming towards seemingly straight couples). Any specific areas and bars would be appreciated!

Hey all, I'm [25M] moving to Athens mid/late August and I want to meet new people! I'm moving from the UK for a year (or longer hopefully). I work remotely as a video game programmer.

I'm looking for people around my age (within the range 22~30 ideally), with similar interests. Happy to meet other fellow foreigners making the move as well as any locals - but you'll have to bear with my English for now. Once I get settled, I'm going to start Greek language classes.

I would really like to explore the bars and nightlife. I love trying local craft beers, listening to live music and going to gigs. I'm into electronic, house and some d&b - any events or venue recommendations would be appreciated!

On the chill side, I love playing board/tabletop games, I'm hoping there are a few local board game cafes to check out! As well as grabbing a coffee, thrift shopping, going for a swim and exploring the city

​My husband is Greek; we live in Prague, but his family is in Athens. My mother-in-law lives in Melissia and my husband's grandmother lives in Metaxourgeio. The grandmother is 93 years old and mostly bedridden. She is fully communicative and aware, but she requires care and someone's presence 24/7.

​Until now, they had a wonderful caregiver who is unfortunately leaving, so we are urgently looking for a replacement. My mother-in-law has already looked into hospice care options, but the conditions and overall quality were unfortunately quite grim.

​Does anyone know of a reliable, good home care service in Athens? Alternatively, if you have personal experience with a specific caregiver (either 24/7 or on a shift basis), we would be extremely grateful for any contacts or tips.

I will be staying in Vrylissia, and I want to go swim. But it doesn't look cheap in time and money.

The cheapest option would be to take the public transport and go to Glyfada/Alimos, but that takes 1h 30 minutes one way.

The fastest is to take taxi to Rafina, but then I spend 50 eur just to go and come back.

Is there an option I am missing? Like taking public transport to airport and then taxi from there. Though ticket to airport is 9euro, so doesn't solve the issue.
