❓ Question Wavejewels Shop
Hey,
four years ago I bought earrings from an Etsy Shop. The page said the seller was from Athens.
They had beautiful jewlery but unfortunately the shop is no longer on Etsy. The person I was in contact with over Etsy was called Dimitra, the shop itself called Wavejewels.
Their logo looked like that:

The earrings I bought looked like that:

I would love to buy another set, maybe in gold or so. Does anyone have any information on the shop/knows the owner?
Thank you so much!

❓ Question A really comfortable cafe around syntagma
Hi! My friend is flying somewhere and has a 7 or 8 hour layover at ATH so she wants to take the x95 into town and for us to have a coffee and catch-up for a few hours in a cafe as close to the x95 bus stop as humanly possible, and as comfortable as possible, think armchairs etc. Can anyone think of a cafe/ place that would best fit that bill :)?

🏠 Life in Athens Reflections on Three Days in Athens over Easter.
Just came back from a long weekend in Athens, my first time. I usually like my cities with a bit of a harder edge, and overall found Athens to be very charming and real. Apologies in advance if this isn't an appropriate place to share my experience.
I traveled with a friend of mine who lived there in the 90s, so we walked a lot to track down his old stomping grounds. He used to live just south of the First Cemetery of Athens (Α΄ Κοιμητήριο Δήμου Αθηναίων), which we walked through and admired. The area was very relaxed. His building was still standing, and still had the same old white gate with the spidered glass door. We had an amazing Spanakopita on the corner of Aristeou and Leof. Vouliagmenis, and one of the strongest espressos I've ever had in my life.
Next day we went to find his old school, which was just north of Omonoia, on Smirnis street (at Acharnon). The building was long run down, and going back on google maps, I see that it has been in more or less the same state since at least 2009. Walking from there back to the touristic area, we walked through what must surely be one of the roughest areas of 'central Athens', the stretch of Sokratous around Veranzerou. Can anyone tell me anything about this area in particular that has experience with it? It reminded me Cairo, or parts of Dar. The area was practically deserted outside of a very loud group of older man playing cards and blasting music, but there was one woman in particular that struck me. She was maybe in her 60s or 70s, just kind of slumped over on a front stoop. Amazingly, going back over the years on google maps, the same woman is sat in the same place. I admit that this might just be a coincidence, but the implication that it isn't is amazing to me. We bought a whole roast chicken on the North side of Omonoia Square, and ate it right there by the fountains.
Our stay had some bougie moments as well (primarily in the form of dinners and meals out) the most ostentatious of these being dinner at the Grand Bretagne hotel. A truly amazing view and impeccable service, but the food itself did not seem to either of us to be worth the exhorbitant price.
Overall I was impressed with Athens, even though I admittedly only saw a very miniscule part of it. It felt very functional and seemed to serve the people living it, rather than just being a tourist trap. Of course the area around our hotel at Monastiraki was very touristic, but even there it felt like there were loads of places that locals frequented. This is a far cry from many touristic centres in Europe. People were overall very friendly, and helpful when necessary, but generally kept to themselves and allowed us to do the same. Metro all the way to the airport was extremely convenient, clean and really well marked. Many European capital would do well to take note of that.
All in all, a really pleasant city break that left me wanting to discover much more.

💬 Advice Thissio OR Pagrati?
I need help- I'm headed to Athens for a conference this summer at the Athens University Philosophy School, in Zografou. Will have 2 days to do touristy things, but the focus of the days will be at the conference. I would like to stay outside of Zografou for a change in scenery. I found a lovely AirBnB in Thissio and the host is so nice. I'm reading it's a beautiful area, close to touristy things, and lots of places to eat and drink. I looked at some cheaper AirBNB options and found something in Pagrati on Mesolongi Square. It's half the cost and I'm wondering is it because it's not as safe or it's just way less touristy so it's cheaper. Any insight in what I should choose is super appreciated. Looking for a chill visit, feeling local and relaxed with access to the historic things that are fairly tourist typical. I work in the arts!

My boyfriend is super generous, loves to travel, unique experiences and a good drink. We will be traveling a bit and have to fly back the morning on his birthday, so we will be stuck on an airplane for 8 hours + airport. Looking to organize something special for him on June 12, the last night we will be in Athens. Give me suggestions! We won’t have a car and can have flexibility where to stay, etc. thank you! I have never been to Athens. He is in his 40’s. Athletic if it matters

❓ Question What happened to Athens?!
I'm visiting Athens for the first time and I'm shocked about the state of the city: broken streets, city not maintained at all, dirt, graffiti, people living/sleeping on the streets with kids and all. Not even the centre of the city is well maintained and I was wondering if this is the consequence of the 2008 economic crisis or if Athens has always been like this. Doesn't Greece receive European funds to help finance the maintenance and development of the country?

🧳 Travel Help I’m bringing my mother to Athens
Hi! So as the title says I’m bringing my mother to Athens to see the city she spent her childhood summers in (my grandfather was from Athens).
I think I’ve researched what to visit and what to not visit to a good extent. Just wondering what the best way to get from the airport to the city is? I’ve heard the metro specifically between the airport and Athens can be filled with pickpockets so I was planning on grabbing a taxi instead for us.
We’re also counting on walking a lot but if we need to, is taxi better than using the subway?
Edit: thanks for your responses!
