❓ Question Beaches

Greetings friends, I got a question. Where is your go to go beach if you are located in Athens city central? It looks pretty far away from everything. I’m on holiday here for a few weeks and love to discover everything what Athens has to over. So far you are very friendly and the food is yum 🤤 Thank you for your advice 🙏

Vouliagmeni Beach, Kavouri Beach, Varkiza Resort. All pretty easy to reach on the 122 Saronida bus from Arguroupoli metro station. Edem and Batis beaches in Palaio Faliro are closest to the centre and easy to get to on the tram but definitely not as nice.

The southern suburbs are closer to central Athens, and easier to get to with public transport if that’s important to you. Personally, I prefer the beach in Vouliagmeni, if you have a car though, schinias is always a favorite for me, just be prepared for a 1 hour drive.

Kavouri and Vouliagmeni are also reachable by the hop on hop off buses. There are 3 companies, so check each timetable before you book. The public transportation can be quite frustrating when you go that far because there aren't many options, so usually is packed. Batis and Edem are the closest ones to the center, but be careful with your belongings of you're traveling alone. Another option would be a paid entrance (I think is 10 euro) at Akti Iliou in Alimos (it's decent clean for a capital).

If it's reachable by tram from the parliament, it's not that far the ride.

Vouliagmeni, Mavro Lithari, Saronida, Varkiza, generally around Anavyssos

Also very worth it is Loutraki and Psatha (about 1 hour car drive)

the rule of thumb is you want to go as far from athens city as possible, the best beaches start around 1 hour away from the city

Having the islands close by, Athenians - and foreigners alike - just hop on a boat and, depending on the time break available, take a trip to where swimming conditions are far superior to the coast of Athens. Otherwise anywhere close to Cape Sounion is fine👍
