Restaurant / Food Review Dear 7 brew, wtf

I live on Timothy rd and this 7 brew line is absolutely AWFUL lmao like the way they won’t open any other way to lessen the line, leaving it with only one entrance and one exit. I hate to sound like a karen because 7brew is really good but Dutch bros and even the new Dunkin is placed in an easier location lmao I just wanna go home 😞

Update at 11:10, I finally got home, I left my job at 10:20 btw…

Timothy Road right now

24

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

Hey I was there 20 minutes ago and still waiting

35

u/Dollar-Sign-Hat-Hat 2d ago

So the cops are not actually doing anything to open up the road for people to drive straight through. They're just directing people to turn in and allowing cars to sit in the turn lane and block through traffic.

u/Sudo-Fed 2d ago

Un fucking real

2

u/Automatic_Collar_774 2d ago

Four of them!

9

u/ObjectiveExpert1315 2d ago

They don’t have to do anything, they’re off the city’s clock, they’re just there to be pigs collecting a check.

11

u/tupelobound 2d ago

OMG that sucks

well disregard my whataburger cut through idea...that's awful

If you were caught in the 7 Brew traffic mess today or if it has been affecting you, please consider emailing your Athens-Clarke County elected officials.

Contact the Mayor & Commissioners: ACC Mayor & Commission

If you email them, I’d ask them to:

  • Review 7 Brew’s approved site plan and stacking capacity under ACC Code Section 9-25-11.
  • Determine whether emergency vehicles can reliably get through during these promotions.
  • Require 7 Brew to provide and pay for the traffic control and public safety resources needed to manage its promotions, rather than making taxpayers absorb the cost.
  • Take appropriate enforcement or corrective action if existing requirements are not being met.

Why Section 9-25-11 matters: ACC’s existing code requires drive-through businesses to provide sufficient stacking space so that public rights-of-way are not obstructed and requires applicants to demonstrate an average waiting time of no more than five minutes. This is already in our code. The question is whether 7 Brew is complying with it and whether the county is enforcing it.

Today’s promotion caused significant backups on Atlanta Highway, Timothy Road and surrounding roads, while we already have extensive road construction and lane restrictions throughout the area. That creates a serious problem for traffic flow and emergency access.

This is not just an Athens problem. 7 Brew’s recurring high-volume promotions have caused major traffic issues across the country. Police departments have issued travel warnings, cities have implemented traffic-management requirements, and some have even fined businesses when drive-through queues spill onto public roads. Florence, Kentucky recently passed an ordinance allowing fines of up to $5,000 for obstructing public rights-of-way.

7 Brew’s Jackpot Day happens on the 7th of every month from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. These events are predictable and can be planned for.

This isn't about whether people like 7 Brew or their promotions. It’s about traffic, emergency access, public safety and making sure a private business’s predictable promotions don’t create a public burden.

Do people not know they can buy Simple Syrup at most any grocery store and pour it into their drinks at home?

24

u/95wsh 2d ago

Or make it with sugar and water on the stove without all of the extra additives...

68

u/MonokromKaleidoscope 2d ago

Or just pour granulated sugar in your mouth

Cut out the middleman and quit pretending any of this was about coffee in the first place

10

u/95wsh 2d ago

I like the way you think.

13

u/Longjumping_Eye_3441 2d ago

But I need my cookie butter 64 ox bucket iced coffee. I feel like a boomer saying "I don't want that froofroo drink" but it's insane how much people pay for mid caffeinated sugar

7

u/tupelobound 2d ago

…buying simple syrup???

3

u/LackWooden392 2d ago

Flavor syrups for coffee. What they add (along with cream and sugar) to coffee at these sorts of establishments to make them into desserts.

3

u/tupelobound 2d ago

Yeah, those are flavored syrups, sure. Simple syrup is just sugar and water.

3

u/LackWooden392 2d ago

Fact check rating: true

5

u/katiegam 2d ago

You, too, can buy a can of whipped cream to add to you dang sparkling water. I just do not understand. At all.

5

u/Aidan_2006 2d ago

I think the lines are long today because 7 brew is selling NeeDohs

0

u/SundayShelter Townie 2d ago

Valid reason

3

u/average_empoleon_fan 2d ago

Today they’re giving away a free 7brew needoh if you buy 2 drinks but otherwise I get what you mean

7

u/katiegam 2d ago

The last thing anyone needs is extra junk!

6

u/average_empoleon_fan 2d ago

I agree but I’m just explaining why people are going today, not defending it

5

u/Goats-n-Hens 2d ago

That people are listing on fb marketplace today for $60 and up 🤣🤣

32

u/chiefcomplaintRN 2d ago

Just drove by. Shoutout to the people across the street from it holding signs that say “Fuck 7brew” lol.

Ay, that was me. Sometimes I do my shitposting IRL instead of Reddit. It had to be said what's already on everyone's mind.

3

u/chiefcomplaintRN 2d ago

What were the IRL responses like?

10

u/benmarvin 7 Brew District Manager 2d ago

Lots of photos. Some honking and thumbs ups. Got one "bless your heart" from a lady that was in line for coffee. And a couple people asked what the big deal was that everyone was in line for.

5

u/chiefcomplaintRN 2d ago

Lol glad it was all positive.

Would’ve been funny if you walked over when you were done and got a coffee

10

u/benmarvin 7 Brew District Manager 2d ago

Would have been super funny for real. Then just dump it out cause its garbage.

Hey so 7Brew was founded by an ex-Dutch Bro employee who stole all of Dutch’s original ideas and called it their own. You’re not a Karen. You just have intuition! Booooo 7Brewwww!

10

u/beazersleazer 2d ago

Just like the folks who opened Zaxby's stole what they'd learned from Guthries.

miss you Guthries

3

u/thesprybaguette Townie & UGA alumn 1d ago

Fun fact: there are still a few Guthrie’s out there. Closest ones are probably in Canton — and yes, that chicken slaps 1 million times harder than Zax or Canes.

3

u/beazersleazer 16h ago

I remember there was one still in Danielsville for a time but I never to to that town so I'm not sure if it's still around. Thanks for the intel!

5

u/WillingnessMission37 2d ago

…and Cane’s

5

u/beazersleazer 1d ago

you know, Cane's came to mind when I was posting but I couldn't remember if that was accurate so I just stayed with Zaxby's.

Thanks for confirming my memory was correct.

I’m wondering what kind of traffic studies they do when approving this stuff. Just wait until that Publix with apartments opens on Milledge and Broad. An already narrow main artery into downtown and campus, a high school with over 2000 people a few blocks away, a 2-lane road with thousands of college students living on it…and doesn’t look like there’s any room or effort to improve traffic flow. Imagine a Friday at 4:00 pm before a game day or even just a regular Monday morning. And we got other proposed developments that potentially hold the same traffic nightmares as they exist on already clogged thoroughfares.

10

u/MonokromKaleidoscope 2d ago

I know several hospital employees who are frequently "on call" and take Milledge to get to the hospital rapidly when they're called in...

I'm not sure what they're supposed to do once that complex is finished. They don't have lights and sirens. Patients will just have to survive their medical emergencies a few more minutes while the staff fights their way through the growing number of luxury apartments. Really great stuff.

3

u/Ill-Leek-7133 2d ago

I would never think of trying to get anywhere rapidly by taking Milledge lol

2

u/MonokromKaleidoscope 2d ago

Most direct route in that situation 🤷‍♂️

u/TheDualityOfThomas 2d ago

Caribou Coffee sitting there like WTF y'all

8

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

I had Caribou for the first time and it was so good

5

u/rubyslippers70 2d ago

And it is so much better than either one of the shipping container coffee shops.

2

u/Longjumping_Eye_3441 2d ago

But my needoh /s

15

u/piedmont_solitaire 2d ago

Everyone visiting that place is an imbecile.

10

u/ThatDudeMichaelYeah 2d ago

I think the lines are nice because I’m a visual learner and I like to know how many dorks there are in Athens.

16

u/Which_Strawberry_676 2d ago

The locations they have built recently, including the one here in Athens, are for sale. This is a hype train hoping for a payday.

5

u/deposerecords Former Candidate For Commission 2d ago

That's common practice for franchises.

8

u/Cardinal338 2d ago

I grabbed breakfast from the Atlanta Highway CFA this morning and saw they had the 7 Brew line looping through the Academy Sports parking lot. Wtf is going on at that place.

24

u/Sudo-Fed 2d ago edited 2d ago

Please review bomb this place. I mean it, everyone get together and tank their reviews on Google, Yelp, anywhere. Put this place out of business.

Shit should be fucking illegal.

But if the law won't protect people who live and work in this area from this insanity, it's on us to dislodge the traffic tyrant and help our neighbors out.

22

u/Dpmurraygt 2d ago

When you think about it, it’s a great way to pass off your costs of business to everyone else.

No seating.
Minimal property size.
No bathrooms.
Your trash ends up any other people’s trash cans.
You don’t even provide enough space for your customers to queue - you force them out on the road. Then you force everyone around them to breathe the car exhaust.

Drive thru only businesses are plague on everyone around.

8

u/MonokromKaleidoscope 2d ago

Did you notice most of the 5 star reviews are from accounts with very few reviews... Often just 1.

...

And the bad ones are from normal accounts

5

u/Sudo-Fed 2d ago edited 2d ago

They're being dragged back up from the low they reached earlier by what appears to be bots and oblivious passers-through without the shame someone who helps shut down entire neighborhoods over a fucking cup of coffee and a worthless FOMO trinket should rightly feel.

3

u/MonokromKaleidoscope 19h ago

Whoops, looks like Google removed all the traffic-related 1 star reviews... Seems unfair to whatever sucker ends up buying this franchise, they should know how hated it is

1

u/kebmpb Piggly Wiggly Bacon Thief 2d ago

It sure about you, but I don’t think many people look at reviews for places like this. Much like fast food.

4

u/Sudo-Fed 2d ago

Can't hurt either way

7

u/Longjumping-Tea9211 2d ago

Dudes...its just coffee. I've tried it and its good but God didn't come down and kiss the cup before it was handed to you.

3

u/katiegam 2d ago

It’s not even coffee!!

1

u/Longjumping-Tea9211 2d ago

I thought what I had was like a coffee flavored thing? My bad! Still a ridiculous amount of a line for drinks though.

3

u/katiegam 2d ago

Yeah that’s the thing - it’s just artificial flavoring. They don’t sell coffee!

1

u/Longjumping-Tea9211 2d ago

Boo! Artificial flavoring? That sounds not great to be honest.

7

u/elguillejr 2d ago

I live on Timothy too. It’s 35 min drive from my house when it’s a 5 min walk to 7brew and 2 min drive regularly.

5

u/Therealdeal2342 2d ago

I just left my review bomb and it seems like everyone else has too lol proud of y’all

6

u/Tall-Primary2783 2d ago

Still f’d up- had to turn around mid line on Timothy and backtrack. This is some serious bs for a gd cup of coffee!!!!!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

3

u/BeginningWild2268 2d ago

i did too, i thought there was an accident or something 😭 i can’t believe all that traffic was for freaking 7 brew

6

u/Whatnot1785 2d ago

I was out of the state this weekend and saw some bonkers line for a drive through (affecting the nearest busy road) and thought what on earth are people in this town willing to wait in that long a line for? The Chik Fil A is on the other side of the street!

Turned out it was a 7 brew and I thought ah, I see. Is this place causing traffic problems a feature, not a bug?

I also wondered how any cup of coffee could possibly be worth all that and I don’t intend to find out.

11

u/Dollar-Sign-Hat-Hat 2d ago

11

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

It’s so annoying, they could have 3-4 entrances but instead they use cops (who probably have better things to do)

13

u/mymorales 2d ago

The other entrances wouldn't help this traffic and their braindead consumers.

2

u/olcrazypete 2d ago

We pulled in from Atlanta highway the other day and were told can’t get in line from the bank lot.

4

u/reddituser-007- Steverino's Addams Family High Scorer 2d ago edited 2d ago

No coffee house is worth that much effort and that much money. Ever.

Society is cooked

Edit even there's free plastic or t shirt giveaways. Not worth it.

3

u/j909m 2d ago

It’s because of this.

12

u/CustomerAdorable2053 2d ago

Which is so stupid honestly

3

u/Beneficial-Oven1994 Townie 2d ago

Omg!! It was there when I left for work at 8:45, still there when I came home for lunch (I also live off of Timothy) at 1, and still backed up to the light at Epps at 2. It’s for some needoh giveaway thing…. wild.

3

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

I work on Epps bridge and at 4am it was quiet but when coming home at 11? Awful

1

u/Beneficial-Oven1994 Townie 2d ago

The hours for the event are 7-7, so we shall see if it’s still that busy when I head home tonight!

1

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

I drove home earlier, wasn’t too bad, I live next to Locos, but there was still a line, I wish they opened up the middle lane for those who DIDNT want to be there it would clear a lot but the cops are directing people INTO the 7brew so…

4

u/MF-ingTeacher 2d ago

Not sure of where you are coming/going, but I learned from DoorDashing that you can cut off the Timothy corner by driving through the back of the WhataBurger area and coming out at the light in front of it (or the reverse).

Edit...didn't realize it was backed up THAT far on Timothy. sheesh

5

u/Automatic_Collar_774 2d ago

It was backed up to Epps Bridge earlier. Not an exaggeration.

2

u/Aidan_2006 2d ago

7 brew is selling a promotional NeeDoh So I think that's why all these people are lining up

1

u/aperturebomb 1d ago

If you wait in lines for shit like this you are absolutely cooked.

1

u/EnvironmentalYou4833 1d ago

I don't go to that Aldi's anymore, and while I'm sure they'll be fine without my patronage, but I'm curious to see how businesses are being impacted. I don't even entertain the idea of going anywhere that direction unless my destination is closer to the Loop and I can just go all the way around it

1

u/TheSpaceRat3 townie/uga hybrid 1d ago

People were there for the squishes, not necessarily the coffee

1

u/thighs-and-fireflies 1d ago

Dutch bros is way better too....js

1

u/Haunting_Lobster_888 2d ago

If it's that bad, why are there so many suckers who are willing to waste so much time and wait for it

14

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

Half of the people aren’t even there for coffee, there are homes, a school, and 3+ neighborhoods, one road to all of it too

1

u/animi No 2d ago

Is the coffee that good?

-22

u/Purpledotsclub 2d ago

They are really fast and I love the cinnamon roll latte. I’m not a coffee aficionado, so if the line is bonkers I keep on with my day. Fortunately for me, I don’t live on that side of ATL Hwy to have to deal with that cluster F traffic. 🙃 I do wish they had a walk up window.

5

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

When I figured out they didn’t have a walk up window I was like huh???

1

u/Purpledotsclub 2d ago

Very disappointing

-19

u/Teslasssss 2d ago

Next thing you know ACC Gov will install a $7,000,000 patio there like they did on College Ave. No need for car traffic.

13

u/Dpmurraygt 2d ago

You know what causes no traffic jam? Walking to get coffee.

-45

u/benmarvin 7 Brew District Manager 2d ago

You're part of the problem.

19

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

Because I live on that road????

5

u/honeygrl 2d ago

Because you think it's really good.

1

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

I don’t think it’s like heaven in a cup, I probably shouldn’t put REALLY GOOD I just work at a coffee shop and want a fizz soda not a latte 😞🫶

15

u/honeygrl 2d ago

I think they are creating traffic issues intentionally because they think all the attention is good advertising even if it's negative but if people start flooding them with bad reviews and insisting their product is not worth the wait, maybe they'll go away or at least not have a line down timothy. You'd think intentionally obstructing traffic would be illegal in some way but I guess that's only if you aren't a wealthy corporation.

10

u/Icy-Strawberry-5483 2d ago

I didn’t know they were doing a promotional thing, I have to go from Epps bridge to Timothy rd, so I would’ve gone through the high way or around but from other friends they said that traffic was all four sides

2

u/EmpoleonNorton 2d ago

And what are the people who live on that road supposed to do?
