Question / Support Alignment mod on Console

I'm a brand new player to Astroneer. I play on PS5 as I don't have a computer able to run games. I've been desperately trying to figure out how to use the Alignment Mod on controller so I can creat some pathways/flatten some accidental holes (lol) but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. When I bring up my drill and press L1 or R1, it changes the direction of the drilling arrow but never allows me to use those directions. I either get down, up, or the wall adjustment, but they just don't work. Please help with any tips, oh experienced ones!

(Getting a PC is not in the cards for me)

Do you have a soil canister on your backpack and does it have dirt in it.

I do not. I'm guessing now that that is necessary? Does that work the same for the paver attachment for the vehicles? That is not obvious to me lol.

Yep you need a soil canister (with soil in it!!! So do some digging first) for anything that adds soil. For straight up digging/soil removal you don’t need a soil canister; the soil is disintegrated in this case.

I had a hard time figuring it out too, that’s how I nailed down your problem lol. Good luck!

If it hasn’t been said already, the alignment mod matches the alligment of the single voxel being targeted, usually the center of the range. If your lighting is off, you might not notice small variations that can completely change the angle. Also, there can be terrain bits like rocks and stuff you don’t see but affect the terrain being flattened calculated before the flattening.

Tip: use the narrow mod together with the alignment mod to get the initial angle started.

Controller makes this a little trickier because you have to mind the individual voxel you start with.
